That's not a fact. If Hurts never left Bama he still goes to the NFL. Path and opportunity of play would have played out different but he 100% gets drafted and goes the NFL. And the proof is all the other QBs who have gotten drafted mid to late round every year for decades. Worst case scenario he gets drafted as an athlete. Armanti Edwards was a freaking 3rd round pick or whatever it was. Hurts was going to the NFL.

I mean OU was essential to his career playing out like it did as a pro. but yeah, his college football resume is Bama heavy.
-
I mean, Hurts lead Bama to 2 consecutive national championships. OU just made him a better QB/player There is a reason Hurts reps both
-
new scheme. new coaches. I think it might be a little boom or bust early on. Maybe inconsistent being the right word. I expect a solid unit by the end of the year.
-
He has 26 starts under his belt already. I had no clue he had played that much football.
-
Just for perspective and this game is already boring. Cam comp % in preseason as a rookie Game 1 - 42% Game 2 - 50% Game 3 - 31% Game 4- 60% for 25 yards and his first pass TD and obviously then went on to break almost every passing record for a rookie
-
Yeah, I remember that run too. Pretty epic run and I think was the play that allowed Ron to name him the starter. It was the 3rd game. Cam spent most that preseason looking not ready to be a NFL passer. Ron was looking for anything to give Cam the job.
-
Cam actually had pretty rough entire preseason. Im not sure he even threw a TD pass and played in all 4. No one saw the opening game coming
-
Mills has sneakily played a ton of NFL football though for a young QB that wasn’t drafted high
-
Not sure this means Stroud isn’t ready. Cam Newton looked not ready for the NFL his first preseason game and then rewrote the rookie record book. it’s fast, new, and vanilla. nonstarters around them compound it all. Never the best setup for any rookie. Gameplans matter for rookies. And I won’t freak out if Bryce Young doesn’t look like Tom Brady on Saturday.
-
and people were raging because I wanted better depth in the backfield a couple weeks ago. We got a pretty valuable dude at QB that is going to be repping all preseason. Hope Hubbard's pass pro has improved.
-
I would assume the logic would largely be tied to trotting out a rookie QB week 1 in a brand new offense. Bryce Young needs reps. And you want to protect him by giving him real players. Last #1 overall pick in Carolina played in all 4 preseason games.
-
meh. I want Bryce Young playing. And if Bryce Young plays I want the best cast around him we can put out there.

yeah, I mean despite Mahomes, Brady, etc......I still think Rodgers is technically the best pure QB there is in the NFL. And he has dudes he knows out there to throw to and likes. I mean, if you can't hit Rodgers and plays extend longer....he is going to beat you in practice mode.
-
probably. But the Hard Knocks episode when it eventually comes out might give a little insight to how the Jets thought it all went against the Panthers. From practice to the game.
-
be interesting to see if we get a little NY perspective after the game via the Hard Knocks episode too.

What the league essentially did with Cam Newton at his height......isn't equivalent to Matt Rhule football lol. again, if you aren't interested in the board talking about clearly labeled topics? Don't click on them. Interneting doesn't have to be that hard.
-
lol. Just take your L on how wrong you were about Matt Rhule and move on. Quit bringing it back up. Like all the Matt Rhule sucks threads, don't enter if you don't want to hear a comment on the subject. and no, the Super Bowl game where we got hosed on that many bad and impactful calls isn't the "ball bouncing the wrong way". The ball does sometimes bounce your way or against you though. The league/officials put their hands clearly on the scales when it came to Payton's exist from the NFL and Cam attempting to take the reins.
-
Well, Von sort of is ending that totally out coached narrative. The refs mattered way more. Luck mattered more. Again, that Denver O was utter trash. If the game is just averagely called.....we win. Denver wasn't even the second best team in the NFL. We went 17-1 going into that game. There was no blueprint Atl showed. Which is why we smashed people after that.
-
think there was to a degree a Shaq factor with Cam. Refs essentially deemed Cam's size an advantage and therefore were going to apply the rules uniquely to him. Personality only reenforced that bias.
-
well, technically, the next game was the most disgusting display of officiating I have ever seen. Think the NFL was out to attempt to clean up the look of the Super Bowl by giving Denver another W to followup that ring. If I was a millionaire dollar QB I would have retired after that opening game vs Denver. Because it cements that outside factors can and do have too big of an impact on the results. Games can definitely be influenced. And I'd have f you money and wouldn't be risking my body like that anymore.
-
Don't think it matters. They weren't stopping Carolina without a poo ton of luck. And the one man show with the horseshoe essentially confirmed that. Denver O was a dumpster fire. Carolina could of won just punting and playing field position. Wade Phillips doesn't change that.
-
and I frankly wish Von didn't confirm what we always knew. Play that game 10 times. Panthers winning 9 or 8 times. Sometimes it's better to be lucky. But the self-awareness by Von is sort of unique and a cool perspective you don't always see.
-
yep. Refs made the ultimate difference. Those big Bronco plays were all aided by overlooking penalties. Almost every game changing play the Broncos had included a hit to the head or illegal bat of the ball. And they won the game off those select plays.
