I don't have an issue with running the ball well. I simply credit the rush attack when it deserves it. Not give the credit the bad QB. Carolina's run game was absolutely bonkers during that stretch. And folks are pimping Sam Darnold?? lol. What Carolina needs to do is acknowledge that feat....and it is one. They traded CMC and then went crazy on the ground. Not just good rushing. Great rushing. Especially considering teams were playing it.

When you are running for 200+ yards a game and even manage to crack 300+ yards in that span....your QB play is not why you are winning games in the NFL. So yeah, "wins" in quotes. It's like crediting the league's worst defense with winning a game because an offense had to go out and score 49 points. The D doesn't win you that game. The O won the game. Our rushing attack won those games.

That revisionist history and hindsight though. Cam had tons of question marks coming into the league. More than Fields. And best case, just as many questions. Carolina gambled on him because they didn't have a QB and importantly tailored the team around him day 1. Which was the right call given where Carolina found themselves. now, that's not an argument Fields will be better. We know Cam's career/results. Little chance of that.

Fields has been available 82% of the time Horn has been available 47% of the time Fields missed 2 games this season. Started 15 out of 17. Maybe the fact the Bears are horrific on offense around him has more to do with him missing some games than the fact he runs. Why are you bringing up Fields availability when Horn is the guy we picked over him? A less impactful position that has barely seen the field in comparison to Fields. Not so hot take that some might pretend is.....2 years in, Jeff Otah was a better pick for us than Horn has been for us. Otah was dominant and was available 81% of the time. Significantly more than Horn.

pretty sure NFL defenses all over the league routinely stop Mike Evans from doing that 3 straight times without a "shutdown" corner. Horn being the right pick or not has to do with the where the rest of your org is. It's like the Jags drafting the best DB of the decade in Jalen Ramsey and it being meaningless for them. Jalen was a great player. Not the pick the Jags needed. Ramsey could shutdown anyone. But they had too many holes for it to matter. And Horn isn't Ramsey.

Nah, I don't think we would be eating Fields alive if he was in his 2nd offense in 2 years and.... started 15 games....while putting up the 2nd most rushing yards all time by a QB and accounted for 25 TDs. That would equate to the most entertaining offensive football we have seen in a near half decade from the QB spot. And we are a fanbase starved for it. and Fields would have had CMC, DJ Moore, etc here. Chicago had nada. Fields is forced into one man show football. Fields was the 2nd best QB in the draft and fell into our laps. It was a mistake. Simple as that. Defending our front office botching stuff does no good. And it was a mistake regardless of what Fields turns out to be. That's the pick you want your team to make when they find themselves in the spot we did.

Fields has played in 27 games and been available for more. Horn has been available for 16 games and played in 16 Those aren't the same. A season is 17 games. Horn has yet to suit up for a season worth of games over 2 years. and it's an old wives' tale that a QB shouldn't and can't run. He is young with horrible weapons. If you put him in a good position, he could run less. It's not a Fields problem. That's a Chicago problem. And the more time he gets the smarter he will run. But running isn't a problem. It's a positive.

He is an elite runner. Special. And as a 2nd year player, in his 2nd offense already with bad weapons.....Fields had more passing TDs than the Carolina Panthers. Passing on Fields was an obvious mistake. Always has been. Nothing wrong with referencing it. It was the right call and we blew it. And it was the right call frankly regardless of what happens with Fields. if you need a QB....you don't draft a DB in the top 10. Reason #4 at least of why we should get rid of our GM too. Can't stay healthy is Jaycee Horn. 16 games in 2 years. He has yet to log a season worth of games as he goes into year 3.

Wanting Wilks is no different than asking Tepper to bring back Fox or Rivera for a round 2. i don’t want the course correction from the Rhule error to be Carolina going right back to an old school DC mindset. It’s an offensive league. We need a modern era HC and a QB.

Official Panthers at Saints let's get this over with GameDay thread
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I didn’t watch. But you telling me somehow won a game where our QB had 43 passing yards and 2 INTs and our starting RB was kicked out??!!??? I refuse to believe the Saints actually tried to win -
Why would you fire him. His QB is hurt. Nothing more. They have overachieved when Tua was healthy specifically because of his O design and playcalling.

There is a waiting line. And prior finalist are simply going to be ahead of 89 for a bit. Very few can jump the line. Peppers will jump the line.

I think Harbaugh goes to Denver
-
True. But that’s the unmarried cycle doing what it does. Because Hurney wasn’t let go with Ron. Which he should have been. now we are going to enter another new era. With a HC and GM not married if Fitt stays. so when trouble comes, Fitt goes on the chopping block. Because Tepp won’t want to admit to two back to back coaching fails. Fitt goes under the bus. Which would be easy to sell. I want a new GM and a new HC. 2 that believe in the same type team and the same type way of going about winning. With the same time clock, goals, etc.
-
I’d like a new GM for the simple reason I think front offices should be married. Forced to have the same goals and timelines. When they aren’t, the org always has a scapegoat for when things are bad. Coach or GM. The alternation cycle just does what it does and we have seen that over and over.
-
Front office did everything in their power to tank as much as was possible by trading CMC after Rhule’s firing. Wilks simply highlights how horrific Matt Rhule was a NFL HC. Coaches and actual players aren’t going to tank and try to lose a game.

I think we are actually going to start seeing more kids stay in college vs going to the pros. Well, select kids. I mean, you can stay in college and play QB and get paid more money at a big school than being a mid round draft pick. Will financially start to make more sense to stay in college for a bigger paycheck present day and work to improve your draft stock.

CFP and AP have them at #13 right now. They won. So they likely finish this season in the final polling somewhere between 9-12ish I would think. It wouldn't be shock to see them come out in the first poll next year with somewhere in the top 15. But you never know, all the SEC teams get ranked so pointlessly high each season to start just because it might keep them from an early gift ranking. Clemson seems to be the only team that they will give that to in the ACC as of now.

The Carolina Panthers have averaged 250 rushing yards per game (technically 248) in the Sam Darnold wins. That’s what it is taking to make Sam look decent. And yeah, a comparable QB to PJ will look better with that type rush offense going down. Sam isn’t in another tier than PJ. His career here and away has proven what Sam is. And this praise of Sam is off a flukey couple games with insane rush numbers.
-
Saying Sam Darnold is a bad NFL quarterback is about the most boring and safe take someone can take. Only on the huddle would someone claim that is a stupid take. Or maybe at the Darnold house for Christmas it would spark outrage
-
I’d wager that is just a result of small sample sizes on the year factoring and skewing things. PJ and Sam belong in the same tier of QB. We have seen that over the long run.
-
Yes. I’m saying he has practically nothing to do with it. Sam Darnold is just a bad NFL body and is just doing what bad NFL bodies do when put in good spots. We can win with PJ Walker if the run does what it did Saturday. Sam is trash. A proven NFL fact.
