Miles Sanders isn't a top talent though. I mean, that is the reality of it. He is a solid RB. He cracked 1000 yards for the first time in his career last year (behind arguably the best OL in the league) and hasn't caught a receiving TD since 2019.

Anybody else think we are putting to much on Bryce's plate?
CRA replied to DennisM1's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the entire offense is being overrated that is around Bryce Young. Not saying they are trash. But it's a step back in a lot of ways from what we had around Sam freaking Darnold. Miles Sanders is a pretty good RB. A massive step back from CMC. Miles Sanders belongs in a committee IMO. He was a pretty good runner behind a great OL. But some of his more advanced stats seem to show a lot of his success was because of the OL. He didn't make a ton happen on his own. and whoever we want to claim is our #1 WR is a massive step back from DJ Moore IMO. I do like the OL and the way it is progressing. Which frankly mattes the most. But the skill position talent is weak for a rookie QB if you are hoping for real success this year. -
100% we win that game with 89. Only problem is we likely never get to that moment if 89 had been on the team that entire season. 89 would have completely changed the dynamics on the year. The good time, dabbing, dancing, picture taking fun crew lead by Cam as the face of the NFL….would have faced resistance all season from 89.

Steve Smith and Cameron Wolfe discuss Bryce and the Receiving Corps
CRA replied to jfra78's topic in Carolina Panthers
I already addressed Cam. Or Brady. Or Lamar or Mahomes. If you got a MVP caliber QB and a Pro TE.....they can make a weak WR cast work. That's not the model we are playing out in 2023. 89 wasn't years away from greatness. He was instantly great when given the opportunity in 2003. Dominate postseason in 2003. The best season of his career was his next healthy one after that season. And Moose wasn't some JAG either in 2003. Add to all that a top 10 defense, Pro Bowl in the backfield, roided up OL. I just don't see all these comparisons people are trying to make. We got a rookie QB and a bland cast around him this year. It is what it is. It's good enough to develop Bryce some. But we need better skill position talent around. Don't see how that is that big of a debate. -
Steve Smith and Cameron Wolfe discuss Bryce and the Receiving Corps

I mean, maybe I’m missing someone but what QB is out there winning with a receiving corp by committee? MVP caliber QBs? And even a Brady or a Cam had dominant TEs in the passing era years they did great with bland WR corps. -

89 one man showed the entire 2005 season. People were most definitely game planning to stop that and couldn’t. It was probably one of the most exaggerated one man shows in modern history. same thing happened in the post season. Dominated the Giants first round. Completely embarrassed the Bears in probably his most dominant game of the season. But stopping him was suddenly easy in the playoffs vs regular season… ….because an all time historical defense doubling and triple teaming him in the 3rd playoff game finally pulled it off?? Not many all time historical defenses around to lock freaks down week to week. Regular or post season. give me a prime 89 all day every day…..over 3 average/decent WRs. I think Justin Jefferson is a dominant freak that people can’t stop despite knowing it’s going to him. Not the system. -

if they could easily be shut down.....Devante Adams wouldn't sleepwalk to 1300+ yards and double digit TDs every year. Justin Jefferson wouldn't be flirting w/ 2k last year after a historic start to his career. I mean, we went to the NFCCG in 2005 with 89 catching 103 balls and being a one man show. 2nd leading WR had 25 catches. Seattle finally stopped him. Which took an all time historically great defense focusing all their attention on him in order to stop. I mean, we got what we got this year. But no GM/coach wants a cast of average joes at WR thinking it is some way to game the system and be more productive because no one knows where the ball will go. -
We had the 18th ranked rush defense. We allowed the 11th most TDs on the ground. We allowed the 11th most rushing first downs. and we were middle of the pack in terms of the amount of running plays we had to defend. So it's not like we had to defend an absurdly high number of plays. we have been in the bottom half defending the run for the last 4 seasons. QB play and rushing defense have easily been the 2 biggest issues for this team the past several years.
-
I mean, I know the answer. I've already looked it up. Good teams? Can stop the run. Bad teams can't. It's a pretty consistent theme year after year after year. Carolina hasn't been stopping the run on the way to the QB. It's part of the reason we have been a bad football team. QB play and inability to stop the run have been the two major issues w/ this team the past several years. and it's easier to stop the pass when you can stop the run.
-
lol. Go look at the top 10 teams at stopping the run year in and year out. Generally you will see a trend with those teams. They actually are good football teams. stopping the run is essentially to getting the opponent off the field, generating turnovers, and on and on. When you are done with that go look at the worst teams in the league at stopping the run year after year. They generally have something in common too.

Phil Snow and his collegiate defenses have always been the key to Rhule’s college success. Should be interesting to see his bologna minus Snow.
-
22nd, 18th, 20th, 29th…that’s our rush defense the last 4 years. And in each of those 4 years we have been in the bottom half of the league in stopping teams from scoring TDs on the ground in addition. Being able to stop the run still matters. It’s what gives you a chance to get to the QB, generate turnovers, field position, keep your O on the field, etc. Why was the 2015 team special? In part because we could stop the run. Top 5. If you stop the run you get a chance to really be disruptive and help your team.

#7 as an edge rusher. That’s talking specifically about what he can do as a pass rusher. Which I have no beef with that. harp on Burns? Can’t remember the last time I spoke his name outside of today. decent vs the run? It’s all relative to your pay check/peers. If you make Burns one of the highest paid DEs in the NFL? He is weak vs his peers.
-
I mean, that is half of his job. Why would that be off limits. It would be like saying lets not talk about Cam the passer because of how insane he is at other stuff late in his career. The Bears traded Olsen because Mike Martz didn't utilize the TE in his scheme. For a receiving TE, Greg Olsen was solid vs the run and in pass pro. He was an iron man in his prime. Never came off the field.
-
I mean, I don't think you read. Again, Brian Burns is one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. Describe Burns vs the run. I'll give you a second shot. Share the actual reality. I mean, that is a pretty massive part of the overall job to ignore if you aren't just coming in on passing downs. this might be hard for you to comprehend, but you can actually honestly evaluate a player and it doesn't mean you think he is trash because he has flaws. There aren't many that don't.
-
Burns is a great pass rusher. That's what I said. How is that undervaluing him? and that is why he ranked highly on a list ranking edge rushers. Describe Brian Burns in one word vs the run? I mean, it's not undervaluing someone to acknowlege what they are. It would be like having a great receiving TE that was a liability in pass protection or aiding in the run game. Just realities of different players. Everyone isn't going to be 89, Luke or Peppers where holes don't exist in their game. Burns has holes in his. It is what it is.

Can Bryce Young lead Panthers to a deep playoff run?
CRA replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was addressing the silly comp of 2015 to the 2023 team. Which it is. First, second and last. and a top 5 D paired with a MVP QB is why that team had success. -
outside of Saban? Haven't they all gone back been lesser coaches than their pre NFL runs?
-
I would assume he is largely alluding to them having to listen to folks say their dad/husband sucks over and over all throughout the media and stuff like that. Maybe kids being kids at school. Your dad sucks. Going through that. But if he was really trying to avoid that, don't go coach at school where the alumni have unrealistic expectations like Nebraska. Go coach at a dumpster fire school. You kinda sign your family up to listen to folks bash the football coach by choosing to coach.

Can Bryce Young lead Panthers to a deep playoff run?
CRA replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
in 2015, we paired a MVP QB with a top 5 defense. That type of gelling isn't on the table for 2023. Bryce Young is going to end up having a fine rookie season and folks around here are going to blast him for not being this fictional creation that can meet these expectations. -

I think scoring points will be an issue too. Again, rookie QB without the type playmakers to make life easy. Young has a tremendous amount to learn and take his lumps from. While I think Young can get to the point where he moves the ball fairly well down the field.... I doubt he is going to be a great redzone player. And that's where your points are scored. He shouldn't be expected to be a great redzone QB with this cast as a rookie. Even in a bad NFCS, the Saints should be viewed as the odds on favorite. Carr should be a better QB in 2023 than a rookie overall. And the Saints have better offensive playmakers around their QB. Kamara, Olave, Thomas. They also fielded a top 5 D last season.
