Potential $1.2B Panthers stadium renovation discussion
CRA replied to Lame Duck's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tepper is worth close to 20 billion. Tax payers shouldn’t be paying to update his stadium….for his NFL franchise, whose valuation will do nothing but climb. -
Panthers have one of NFL's most 'obsessive' fanbases
CRA replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
But it doesn’t work that way. Hence my Gamecock reference. No team in the Carolina’s has a fanbase more passionate and great during the the down times than they have proven to be. Move the Panthers there and it isn’t going to automatically translate over to a NFL team. Generations upon generations made it what it was. Gen X still grew up fans of other NFL teams. There just hasn’t been the time needed to develop enough passionate fans. It’s time not location needed IMO. -

Referencing a college team is just getting into a different animal entirely. You could then argue to move them to Columbia, SC because even if the Gamecocks lost every game the fans in Columbia would still show up and be fired up at kickoff like they are competing for a Natty….. college football in the south is just nuts. No NFL expansion team fanbase can compete with that no matter the city -
you made the mistake of posting thoughts in the "Sam Darnold is going to turn it around and be our franchise QB" window of the offseason. I mean, this is the window where people would be willing to convince themselves that Matt Rhule taking a long snapper might actually be a genius move. You have to tread carefully.

Dude has played in the NFL for 2 seasons. He doesn't have 4.3 NFL speed. He is a possession type. You don't judge a guys speed based on what his college team says at a pro day. and 40 times are overrated often to begin with. It measures how efficient and well someone can pull off a 40. Which isn't really a great measure of football speed. No one has knocked TMJ. He isn't a NFL vertical. That's all that was said. Yeah, everyone can run a vertical route. DJ Moore could too. He wasn't a vertical threat WR either. Mushin went bonkers one year and still holds the longest TD pass probably in Super Bowl history. He was still a possession WR.
-
TMJ ain’t got 4.3 speed. LSU might say so. When LSU wasn’t on the timer he logged 4.5 at the college combine. Which matches more his game day appearance. he is a possession WR

They schemed Shenault up in the backfield for offensive plays. That's not repping him as a RB. Atlanta just didn't just throw Patterson out there and task him with protecting a #1 overall RB pick. He went out there with a 10 year vet/Pro Bowl/MVP QB. And pass pro was the hardest part per Patterson. A completely different world per him. He also had the luxury of a vet QB to help tell him with blitz recognition. More importantly, the staff in Atlanta had been working with Patterson well before he signed with Atlanta. The staff had been working with Patterson in Chicago on transitioning positions before his Atlanta success. It wasn't just a move positions in the offseason type deal that instantly worked out. some of the best 3rd down RBs in pass pro aren't big dudes. It's years of play recognition and technique. That's not looking out for Bryce Young giving him Shenault as an actual 3rd down RB. Too much pass pro involved to screw a rookie QB that hard.
-
I'd say you are downplaying how difficult pass pro is in the NFL. You are suggesting a WR can basically walk off the street and be great a NFL pass protector in the backfield..... and do it at a high enough level not to worry about your huge investment just made in a small rookie QB. may be our best back at pass pro already? wut?
-
6,000 passing yards, 99% completion (Ian Thomas drops one), a solid 50 TDs. or 3800ish passing yards. 20 TDs, 11 INTs, 64% completion, 1 rushing TD, 200 yards on the ground.
-
well, my point stands, I get ZERO interest in watching Shenault try to figure out NFL pass protection with rookie Bryce Young back there. That's a recipe to get our #1 overall draft pick injured. And his weight over the other RBs has frankly nothing to do with his ability to pick up NFL pass protection overnight. Some RBs have spent a career trying to get good at that and still can't. Too much emphasis on what he does with schemed up pass plays IMO. Give me Fournette. Vet that has seen it all. Solid in pass pro. Don't care if Shenault can take a screen pass farther.
-
1000% against Shenault as a 3rd down RB. We just drafted Bryce Young. 50% of the job as a 3rd down RB is pass protection. RBs spend careers trying to get good at that job. No way do I want Shenault testing those waters and learning while we got Bryce Young back there. There is a real strong argument made for a veteran 3rd down RB as a must add. Someone that excels is pass protection. Everything should be about Young. Need solid folks back there on 3rd down that are going to help the rookie out and not get him murdered.
-
I wouldn’t call him a NFL caliber deep threat. Wouldn’t have called DJ Moore that either.
-
2022 Shenault. Total yards ball traveled before being caught: negative 58 yards.
-
We still lack vertical speed on the outside. We are a Chark injury (which happens every year) away from not having that role filled. We seem to have an abundance of competition at the slot and for possession roles with the top end of the depth chart.
-
That experiment was already done. You put him on the outside to play WR and he doesn't get open. That's why we was available to us. Because you essentially have to scheme him up with small ball. Now, would he fit in our offense? Probably so. That's what we want to do for Young. But I don't see how the math works well for him. Because that is all he really is. We are keeping Mingo, Theilen, and TMJ. That's 3 non-vertical threats. We got Chark who is injury prone. So it almost guarantees we keep Byrd or Shi or go after someone else that can get vertical for when/if Chark goes out.

Well, it was said when Corral was drafted.....we were a horrible spot for a QB to end up at. Reality was, he was drafted by a lameduck HC. And odds favored the end of the Rhule era would mean a new HC and that HC wanting to tie himself to his own QB. and everything is playing out like most thought it would for Corral. Which has little to do with Corral.

1st round - Bryce Young 1st round - Smith-Njigba 1st round - Kincaid 1st round - Bresee I traded all our picks. I traded all our picks next year. I traded all our picks the year after that. I traded all our picks the year after that. I traded Sir Purr. I traded Dom Capers. I traded some Bojangles. Traded 2 cheerleaders. I'm a freaking football GM. Yall can stay in your lane. Trust the professional.
-
I mean Philly did phase him out after that one season. Even if you argue he can do it all…..he is still all we got. Which is problematic. Why not have someone really good behind him at pass catching given we have a rookie QB and want to implement a small ball O? not really looking forward to an ankle injury having our backfield primarily be Hubbard

Round 1 - The Carolina Panthers Select Bryce Young - QB - Alabama
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers

Fitt and Frank’s Panthers career is going to come down to one pick though. Young.
-
Feels like Fitt and his staff operate under a vision to emphasis physical tools or select traits over actual football play. Overall at least. Not saying they do it every pick. Might say it applies after the first round. Did do it with the first. But generally saw this the last 2 drafts. which can cut both ways like everything. You end up intentionally passing on guys that have proven to be better football players to date in favor of select attributes and skills. The mindset being you just coach up the superior raw talent. But it can cut the wrong direction because sometimes the dudes that are already better players ….are often actually the most coachable to keep improving. That’s why they were better players to begin with. but obviously favors you if you can turn the talent and skils into a superior football player.

Not worried about that. Sanders can get a yard with good OL play. OL play realistically is most important in getting a yard. And the best QB sneaker in probably NFL history is Tom Brady. I still say the biggest issue is we keep suggesting a dink dunk O with no pass catching RB on the roster. I mean coaches keep saying Sanders can be a 3 down back but they emphasis that because he really isn’t one. Stone hands Hubbard is behind Sanders. I’d rather get a legit 3rd down receiving back. Think that remains a big need.
