If you watch a Pat Surtain highlight reel from last year he isn’t up playing press coverage much. DBs are going to be playing off a lot in his scheme. Which is always going to be called soft when you get beat. I mean they were 10 yards off in Denver last year a lot. but you he had pressure in Denver. So I suspect we won’t know what our pressure really looks like until week 1. Neither will the staff. If Burns and company can’t get it he has proven not be afraid to dial up the blitz. Can’t think of his name but they traded one of the best pass rushers in season last and he countered by just blitzing more

Saints have a vet QB. Decent roster. Easy schedule. that’s the easy bet. we ain’t racing them in 2023

Grant Gordon of NFL.com says O-line IS a thing in so many words
CRA replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, we got a rookie QB. and we are protecting his blindside with a 2nd year player in a brand new O. Who didn’t do a tremendous amount of pass pro his rookie year in the gun I don’t think. It’s basically a recipe for Bryce Young to have a bad time. While he might be ahead of the curve for a rookie he is still a rookie seeing everything for the first time. -
I’ve been saying it since before the first preseason game…..but we need to round out our backfield and add talent.
-
It’s not doom and gloom. We just drafted the #1 overall pick. We have a brand new O. Brand new D. Brand new coaches. That’s exciting. Can’t wait. We are building something brand new. But playoff talk just silly. And all these but look at what X did! posts are referencing teams that aren’t comparable.
-
Yeah, life was easier for Icky in Wilks world. and a “regression” if you want to call it that will make sense. New scheme. Emphasis on developing a passer not hiding one is overall harder job for him.
-
I mean the technical right call was always drafting Fields and not Horn. That’s what a rebuilding team with no QB should have done in that window. Then you never go down the Baker road. You never give up firsts and talent to go up to draft a kid a couple years later. You probably still have CMC and Moore. but it’s cool. Matt Rhule likely wouldn’t have been fired and would have been given more time and he was always going to be a bad NFL coach. One we would have had to of moved on from and thus Fields in the end. Hopefully the Frank era becomes about building smart going forward.
-
Cam won 6 with a much better supporting offensive cast while smashing the record books. The 2022 win total is irrelevant to what Bryce and the Panthers do this year. Those teams don’t exist. you could feel better about Bryce and out direction with 6 wins than an 8 win season pending how it actually played out

you can find a talking head feeding all 32 fanbases entering a season

Expectation is Bryce Young develops and looks good by season’s end and that the draft pick looks smart Expectation is that you build a solid O and D scheme that you can start to really build off of going forward. It’s the literal ground floor start of a rebuild. There are tons of expectations. Playoffs just aren’t where they are

I don’t think anyone thinks Frank isn’t going to run. Convo was just about Icky and his style. Frank essentially runs his run game from the shotgun. Which is a different brand than what Wilks does for example.
-
Well, Vegas has them #2. Id day that is who the Saints would be most worried about.
-
We did. That doesn’t mean he didn’t lean toward being a run blocker. and the NFL is all about scheme and fit. It makes or breaks tons of careers. Everyone got talent. They get their edge often being in the right offense or defense. I think Icky can be solid anywhere. But if you had Bryce Young first, he wouldn’t be the LT I’d prefer. Im sure we are going to run. But running out of the shotgun like Frank loves and Bryce probably needs isn’t the most ideal for a young Icky to strive IMO. Bigger fish to fry than Icky. It’s just a small example of the little things adding up IMO about our front office. That is and has been having to change up the vision so much much in a small window. But it’s not outlandish to point out Icky wasn’t drafted for what we want to do with Bryce because he wasn’t.
-
Because we are poorly managed in the front office. Which has been a known fact for some time.
-
Saints, if healthy, are wining this division. and they should build an early lead in the division while we are figuring stuff out. We are rebuilding, focused on developing Bryce and hopefully figuring out a decent offensive and defensive foundation along the way. That’s just being an objective NFL fan. Anything can happen. But that’s the objective take of the state of things in 2023. And it’s why Vegas backs it. and all that is okay. There is fun in that. This season is not about making the playoffs. It’s not a realistic expectation.
-
We were a smash mouth running offense last year. They looked good doing that. Vs teams that weren’t good defending it. you ask them to be different it isn’t just about learning plays. Icky is a prime example. He fit a Wilks O. He flat out doesn’t fit what you would build for Bryce Young. And that’s our front office being bad showing itself and the impacts down the road. Rhule last season was pointless. Meant we drafted Icky for a Young offense which you probably wouldn’t do

playcalls can impact blocking
-
Doug called the plays in Philly. Not Frank. Frank called them in Indy and San Diego. And got heat for being bad at it in both those spots. Think Frank’s asset is in play design.
-
Ron at least was Jekyll and Hyde. He had a different demeanor when not on the sideline. The book on Frank is the sideline guy appears elsewhere too often too.
-
Frank just doing standard coach talk IMO when he tries to show Brown some respect like it would happen at some point down the the road. They couldn’t pry it from him in Indy with heat. Brown in that article Brown told reporters that the plan is for Reich to call all of the offensive plays this fall but he will be down on the sideline with him instead of up in the box.
-
Frank has been blunt he will be the playcaller to start the year. He isn’t letting Thomas call the plays in 2nd half come week 1.
-
Frank’s never been good at calling plays. He has been complimented on play design. That’s followed him everywhere. We got a bunch of old guys in Frank, Dom, Caldwell controlling and establishing this team and we just need to rolling with the young talent. Frank essentially robbing reps and time from Thomas he needs, for what Frank views as a safe start
