It’s about the guaranteed. And Burns doesn’t need to sniff 120+.
-
Contracts do go up. They don’t go up from 60m guaranteed to 120+guaranteed in a less than a year….when talking about comparable players.
-
Peyton Manning rewrote the rookie passing record book across the board as a passer. That’s not him intentionally tanking lol.

Bad contracts/deals are bad no matter the position. And they add up. no one is saying don’t pay Burns. But Bosa money would be dumb. 120+ guaranteed? Comparable players are at half that in that last year. And our dumb management of things has never been limited to just RBs and LBs.
-
Well, I do think at times the cap talk is exaggerated in terms of what you can and can’t do. But 120+ million guaranteed? For largely a pass rusher? That’s not in the ballpark of what top tier pass rushers have been getting in the last year. Bosa isn’t just an elite pass rusher. He is elite everything. And that’s probably too much of everything too. Which isn’t Burns. I got no problem paying Burns . I have an issue with Bosa guaranteed money.

Peppers as a first-year HOF entrant in 2024?

This. And being a liability in the run game also doesn’t make the chart the gap between the two isn’t small. And the difference in guaranteed money shouldn’t be small either

It’s our team. And how they manage the cap and contracts impacts the quality of the team we root for. and this board has spent decades complaining about the bad contracts and management…. and how that impacts our ability to build quality rosters to compete.
-
My argument remains Bosa isn’t the comp to align Burns’ contract too. Comparable edge rushers are. Burns can talk about Bosa all he wants. If I am Fitt, I’m talking about comparable pass rushers.
-
Bosa’s shouldn’t be the factor. And now that we have seen it….that just doubles that point. Just because a team does something stupid doesn’t mean the rest of the league follows suit, with players that aren’t comps. Paying Burns 120+ million guaranteed? Debating that isn’t a debate. Fire Fitt today if he is that dumb.
-
Burns should be nowhere near that lol. 122 guaranteed? Burns should be closer to half of that amount. Which is the neighborhood Chubb just signed at.
-
Pretty much, Matt Rhule could have walked into another NFL building if someone was dumb enough and everyone would be pitching all this fluff. I mean just look at what was said going into that lameduck year 3 season of Rhule’s. High praise. At the time.
-
Well, given we drafted Bryce Young and have to develop him. Which is what the next 1-3 years will really be about. I’d prefer Moore. My answer probably would depend where my team was. We hit a legit true rebuild window. Burns was essentially the one move running counter to it.
-
Not even a first round pick
-
well, we have a rookie QB we need to build around. Just bandaids on the roster. You could spend a first round pick on a freak skill player…..a first round pick on a freak pass rusher. Both on rookie deals. or you use those pick and alter the Bryce Young trade. DJ Moore is still a Panther and you still got ammo for the draft or use those picks to move in drafts/trades and whatever Mr. In On Every Deal could find. all sorts of stuff you could do
-
If Bosa is only getting 1 mill more than Burns…..that will tell you Bosa got screwed or Carolina got screwed. Burns and Bosa aren’t the same. part of the board has always rooted for overpaying and bad contracts. Then bitch at Hurney or whoever for doing what they begged for a couple years later
-
I'll side with good management of the NFL salary cap and roster management. David Tepper is fine. Brian Burns is fine. Both of them will finish their time with more money than a human needs or can use. Brian Burns could sign a deal today....and his kids and grandchildren should never have to work again.
-
Burns has already been offered guaranteed generational wealth. Even if fired.
-
Cam Newton walked into a better offensive environment than Bryce is by a large margin. Cam won 6 games while doing insane stuff as a individual. I just think people should sit back and enjoy Bryce Young learning and growing. Winning isn't what 2023 is about.

I mean, Peppers was sort of public enemy #1 around here for a minute. We were the dumped girlfriend. And even before that, Pepper caught a fair amount of criticism given the HOF numbers he was racking up here.
-
It's only a fair market price if you invent Burns into a great edge defender and not just a great pass rusher.
-
The Panthers have earned a top 10 pick in the draft, every year, for a half decade. I mean, we have been a bad franchise. That's where Bryce went.

I mean, there is always someone willing to do something dumb. Doesn't mean it's correct. And more times than not, stuff that looks really dumb often turns out to be that more times than not in the NFL.
-
I mean, I would assume all the other QBs drafted #1 overall were viewed as very special too. and even the made in a lab, most NFL ready Madden types like Peyton, Luck and Trevor lost opening week. NFL is hard.
