my least favorite week of college football. Where I support Matt Rhule's team.

but this is basically a clone post from this time last year. I just have no more optimistic energy. I have a little for my college team but even that is nearing more of a PJ Walker-ish trolling my own team type stuff.

it's week 1. The week that tells more lies than any other week in football. For example, it was the birth of the Sam Darnold might be MVP or at worst CPOY talk. We could win. You replay this game 17 times, you go with the Saints winning the majority of the time.

Tough argument to make that we have the best offense. Saints were 9th in points per game last year. Panthers dead last. That's a pretty big leapfrog.

they are an ACC school, they play an ACC schedule. Which is really what people cry about. Because outside of conference they slotted two SEC opponents including the #1 team in the nation and one of their cupcakes is App St. so in reality, Clemson, unlike most schools with what they can control….try to make their schedule harder. Dabo’s biggest issue is 2 flop 5 star recruits he has been over loyal to at QB.. That has kept him from the playoffs. Not so much the portal. Clemson has always had a depth issue vs the Bamas even during their historic run.

Improved confidence, Bryce playbook, yada, yada, yada. in the see it to believe it camp. Last year the talk was Bryce was basically a vet. Secret playbook to be unleashed.

Yeah, it’s lost in the Dabo must adapt talk….is that if he even got top 5ish ACC caliber QB play…..he likely would have been in the college playoffs the last 3 seasons. Dabo’s roster is so good he still gets to about 10 wins with bottom of the barrel ACC QB play. And he is still recruiting the studs. Sometimes they are duds. Biggest issue is Dabo is too loyal and too much rope. Cade era should have started at the start of DJ’s year 2. His new kid should have replaced Cade this year. Loyal to a fault. But it’s part of the reason why everyone stays at Clemson and doesn’t really transfer that much or go to the pros just because they can. Overlooked how many first round picks returns to Clemson. It’s the culture.

Depends on how the ball bounces and luck of a season. Somewhere between 3-5 wins.

The Panthers are basically Clemson. Almost identical issues. Same okay parts. (Minus the history and forced into the SEC obviously)

I mean, Clemson will never have a historic run again without adapting. Clemson's 7 year stretch was one of the an all-time great runs. Odds are they would never be able to do what they did ever again regardless of using the portal or not though. That's where the convo is actually skewed IMO. Clemson was coming off that all time run regardless. People are claiming it's the lack of portal. It was just going to happen. Dinosaur still runs the best and most consistent program in the conference. The Dabo criticism is still flawed IMO. So, I still largely think it's old haters and now big money that really want to stomp out Dabo. It's going to keep him from ever being in the natty convo. 98% of college football isn't realistically competing nor have they ever for the natty..... and now you go that 98% willing to ruin college football for nothing to actually change on their end.

Maybe… from day 1 of Fitterer I felt the Seattle vision was an error. I still think Morgan has too much of that in common with with the old GM. The Seattle era was a unicorn. Not something to model after

I save my delusional optimism for other teams. That’s an easy bet. Take the under. he was below his average last year vs the Saints. They know his flaws as good as any team and slammed full of savy vets.

Yep, #4 in takeaways last year and #8 in points allowed. people are calling them old….but we got a young/bad QB, a rookie OC and a rookie HC. The Saints being “old” really isn’t ideal for the our matchup. They are experienced on D vs newbies. Got to like that matchup the most in the this game. Our D is the 2nd best but got to think it’s a distant 2nd vs their favorable matchup

Majority of Clemson’s college playoff appearances featured them going in with a loss. You can take a L in a lot of years. It generally was always a bad L too. In the expanded format a 1 loss ACC team can get in.

Yeah, the reputation mad SEC folks talk about amongst themselves. Like I said, the real stat padding is that Clemson handled the ACC play with ease. That’s what folks were actually made about. Clemson’s out to conference generally always includes 2 SEC teams or if they can’t get 2 a Notre Dame type. Every school in including Bama, UGA, Ohio St plays the random nobodies. the argument is essentially Clemson shouldn’t be able to do what everyone else does….because they are an ACC school. Clemson is also penalized because the Gamecocks stink.

and Clemson’s small local team didn’t have to be App St. They could have chosen someone else. Their 2nd SEC game didn’t have to be UGA….they could have worked up a home and home or neutral site game with a lesser caliber SEC opponent. When they can, they always go tougher than they need to. Claiming Clemson stat pads or Dabo paid people but now others can legally….just shows you the vast real estate portfolio Dabo has taken out in people’s heads over the last decade. folks taking their victory lap on the back of UGA knowing Dabo likely finishes 10-2 or 9-3 while making a run at the ACC title….and that his disaster seasons are still really better than almost everyone else out there.

UGA is playing Tenn Tech Golden Eagles next week. Literally every school does that. But with Clemson it is stat padding lol Clemson didn’t have to schedule UGA. They didn’t have to schedule App St. Clemson consistently chooses tougher opponents for the traditional out of conference type games when they can…. Clemson plays in the ACC. So they play ACC teams. They can’t control that. IMO that’s the truth of the “stat” padding. Not the rest is the schedule.

That must be new. Or maybe both teams have to agree…I see Furman is out there getting their teeth kicked in without 10 min being applied
