Ian Rapoport on Bryce: "Everyone had Bryce Young #1"
CRA replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bryce just had nothing to benefit from by throwing. He knew Carolina or Houston would take him. Throwing had 0 chance of helping and could only hurt him. So he didn't throw. That's different than being the consensus #1 overall QB though of 32 teams. The bad teams at the top dictate the convo. Bryce's size and skill set alone would obviously make him not #1 for many teams and schemes. He isn't a generic fits all offenses QB. Tons of teams paid zero attention to him in reality to even rank the top guys. Plenty of teams weren't going to invest any energy into breaking down Stroud, Young, etc. Fruitless time and energy. Can go all the way back to Cam. Everyone slated Cam to go #1 overall leading up to the draft....but only once people basically knew Carolina was going to take him. Change who is at the top of the draft, Cam easily could of had an epic fall. -
Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener
CRA replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
people calling this conservative are deep in the cope spiral of denial. Conservative is what Andy Reid is with Mahomes. And Mahomes basically got the same overall volume of work as a ROOKIE Bryce did last season but got it in just 2 preseason games. I think it clear, Bryce can't do what the team needs him to do yet. And that gets highlighted when you aren't in control and an opposing D takes away Bryce's bread and butter and goes after him. Too much of what Canales' base is plays to things Bryce is bad at. They are protecting Bryce and frankly Canales from having to do deal with it all at this stage. It's not conservative QB management. You do think with Cousins or Mahomes or someone like that. Great QBs, old QBs, injured players. Not bad 2nd year QBs. -
Ian Rapoport on Bryce: "Everyone had Bryce Young #1"

yep, we follow 1 team and it was split in house until the powers that be declared it was Bryce. Which makes sense that people viewed it different. There was no player all 32 NFL teams were going to be in agreement on. Ian knows his job. He said what he was supposed to on camera at Panthers camp. -
Ian Rapoport on Bryce: "Everyone had Bryce Young #1"

he is literally at Panthers camp. He has been in the game a long time. There is no way 32 NFL teams all with different schemes and offensive emphasizes are going to agree on any QB as #1 outside of the most rare drafts. Which this one wasn't. -
Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener
CRA replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
yep, not sure I really blame him so much. But I think if he puts Bryce out there and knows he has a lot to work on in his scheme.....it's just easier on everyone not to play him. Saves Bryce heat. Him from dealing with it before he has to. That's what it smells like. Freaking Mahomes played the first two preseason games last year. Canales talking about potentially holding out the worst starting QB from all of preseason out of possible "injury" concern? What something doesn't smell right....it generally ain't right. -

Someone call PJ Walker up. He ain't scared. -
Schemes might of been different, and you can dress anything up different, but the overall identity and concepts weren't though IMO. All we have to go on is what we have to go on. Every O he has been involved with has checked certain boxes and leaned on the same general run and pass principles. And his first investment as a HC (Leggette) plays right into his history way more so than what Bryce would excel with. I largely assume football guys will be what they have been until proven otherwise. Stubborn run that attacks downfield. Dress it up anyway you want IMO but every O he has been part of breaks down to that simple formula.

Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener

CJ Stroud appears to be playing this week. Jordan Love too. Heck, even the folks like the Eagles aren't ruling their dudes out (and they had a joint practice this week). but yeah, Bryce doesn't need to be out there. -

I get it. Canales knows Bryce isn’t going to look good right now and flat out doesn’t want to deal with what comes with that. That’s what it is. reality is Bryce needs to be out there if the real goal to get a bad QB as ready as he could get- 225 replies

as in, big bodies standing in front of him. Take the pick or where he hung Thielen out to dry. He can't see well enough. The pocket exists. Time too. He gets the throw off. Bryce is just miniature. And you got at least 10 giants clogging his view. So they are bad throws and not seeing what is there. all the clips where he makes a play, he isn't in a textbook pocket with big bodies obstructing.

Panthers release first depth chart of 2024
CRA replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
well, I think they did hunt for one. That's what the firm attempted to do. but as you said, who wants to have their career essentially instantly killed by coming here. That IMO is what the qualified folks think. So you have to go the longshot route. The dudes that aren't being looked at anywhere. And that's what we hired. A GM and HC who no other team even sniffed. -
Panthers release first depth chart of 2024
CRA replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
the 2024 Panthers were brought to you by.....the people who also brought you the 2023 Panthers. It never made sense. It never will. Tepper and Jim Caldwell brainstormed that the answer was already employed here and went through the 2023 joke with them. Morgan. Morgan helped make this mess. We played ourselves. Fitterer should of been fired with Rhule. Morgan and company should of been fired with Fitterer. We keep pretending like the problems aren't the problems and scapegoating one guy each year. -
Panthers release first depth chart of 2024

at this point, I have zero faith they can pick one or put one in position to thrive. I'm in the camp of just signing some proven vet and dreaming of the day of getting back to .500ish. -
live action reps are where you can sort of gauge a player....and build around what they are presently doing well and not well. The whole strategy aspect of sports. Which determines wins and losses. So again, I see zero reason why you wouldn't rep a bad QB......in less controlled scenarios. Against, players, schemes and play calls that all will be unknowns in comparison to his own teammates. I personally don't think Bryce Young is a NFL QB. Frank Reich did a horrible job with him going into last season though. 2 things can be true. If Canales doesn't play him going in, that's dumb too.
-
Houston has a Pro Bowl/ Playoff winning QB from last season. They also had an extra preseason game.
-
He is a green, young and not very good QB. and this is a brand new system. live action matters. In practice he sees the same players with weaknesses and strengths he uniquely knows. I mean the game itself doesn’t matter, as in winning them. Bryce Young getting a lot better matters. I don’t agree with the less is more for bad players. Practice vs your own is just that. No reason not to rep him as much as possible.
-
If Canales doesn’t play Bryce this preseason he can see the door as far as I’m concerned. Why are we hiring coaches that treat green/bad QBs like pro bowl vets.
-
I think it is predictable. Bryce Young isn't very good....and Canales plays a style of football that probably makes Frank's O look like a good fit for Bryce.
-
Disagree compared to those that were mentioned. His physical tools…size, speed, strength, ability to play the ball in the air are all better than them. I mean he is a very specific type WR. Most are. He doesn’t fit what Bryce Young does. I’ve said that from the jump. Does hit fit what Dave has been around? Yes. XL isn’t going to be anything until paired with a QB that plays the game that fits him

Brees and Brady could nickel and dime folks, especially as they aged....but the prime versions would throw the haymakers and would play aggressive downfield. They became the king of nickel and dime after HOF careers were already stamped into the books.
