I mean, Marty was sports writer, turned PR guy, turned front office admin guy. Marty did sensible and smart things high valued picks. Which was largely get the dude my HC wants. Calling him a scout and expert on college talent....just shows Tepper doesn't know up from down. I think managing the draft was probably the only aspect of the job Marty grades out decently on. I mean, if the measuring stick is vs your peers. I still wasn't horrible. Because a lot of teams are really bad at drafting. Even with good picks to inflate their picks like Marty had.
-
maybe James White? Bill is a horrible drafter.

Marty Hurney did one thing great. He didn't just hit homeruns in the first round.....he used that first round pick on someone his HCs legitimately wanted. Marty was definitely a coaches GM. His picks fit the vision of the HC. Which you got to think at least doesn't hurt the odds of the success of highly talented players. I mean, a lot of people weren't thrilled in real time w/ Luke. With CMC. Or a Stewart. Or a Stewart and then Otah move. But all those moves were 100% plays to what the HC wanted to do. Marty shared in his HCs vision of playing football in Carolina. Fitterer's first pick, that's where the red flag started. We were a team that needed to rebuild and he is out there drafting his Seattle corner. He was no asset to Rhule or Frank.

reports have always been Tepper took issue with people that pushed back on him and knew football. I think that's why he likes Fitterer. Fitterer makes a guy that knows nothing about football think he is smart. He didn't fire Fitt for stabbing Frank in the back because Fitterer is team Tepper. Which is why Fitterer hanging around will be horrible for a new GM search. Most good candidates can probably figure out what a poo show is still cooking if Fitterer is still in place. You just wait another cycle so your career isn't immediately derailed for a quick check.

We rebuilt the bears and gave an MVP in his prime to the 49ers

DJ was locked up already and was the piece that actually matched with developing a rookie QB. Burns was the no brainer. Essentially a win now piece on a team entering full rebuild fixated on grooming up a young QB, he wasn't locked up, with a contract dispute on the horizon. It's just a bad front office. No vision and in denial about what needed to be done. They have been claiming this hybrid rebuild/win now mantra for years. We needed a legit rebuild the day the Ron/Cam era ended. -

watch Scott Fitterer hang around and decide he needs to lock up boy Jaycee Horn up early after Denver does it for Patrick Surtain this offseason. That would totally be a Fitterer move. Just imagine the worst possible thing and your odds of being right get higher. -

Can't wait to trade Brian Burns for some JAG QB because we are unsure about Bryce Young.... It's beyond comedy how far this roster has been set back as they have dealt with the QB issue. -

yeah, we have put the Bears in a tremendous position. No doubt. They are still the Bears so they likely fug it up. But the Bears are essentially where we dream to be. -
Fitterer might stay simply because Tepper clearly dislikes people that actually know what they are doing in terms of football. My guess is Tepper likes people that make him feel like the smartest guy in the room, no matter the room. Scott Fitterer no doubt will be a +1 if he stays for Tepper anytime Tepper decides they need some group think on his football team.

My stance is the same as this time last year. I want a HC/GM paired up. Same page. Same philosophy. Same vision. Same timelines. I’d hire them at about the same time and I would prioritize my HC first. Then setup him up with a GM that would look to be a great compliment and that would work well with him. Which a is 180 of what we just did with Fitt and Frank. Exceptions to that but my stance is largely just that. I got no real thought on who I want as GM yet because I don’t know who I want as my HC. And I prioritize HC over GM. I think a HC and GM need to be similar in how they view winning in todays NFL. Where the emphasis needs to be. And I really think we have a culture issue at this point. I mean we don’t have it. So the pairing and match of the two is important.

that’s you saying you are okay with his dismissal for stabbing Frank in the back….its not you accepting or acknowledging the poo job he did as a GM here. Which leads you to fantasizing about how Fitt really is still good and it would totally work if he kept most of GM duties with a new name. IF ONLY he hadn’t stabbed Frank in the back lol.
-
The guy that stood up to confront him was 100% a Jags fan. Angle shows the Jag emblem on the front of his hat. Can’t really tell who he technically threw it at though.
-
you seem to think because someone can’t find a direct word for word quote of you saying something they can’t summarize your stance lol. I didn’t misrepresent how hard you dug into Fitt defense coming into this season. Everyone knows that. I haven’t seen you ask for the incompetent clown to be fired. Only you theorize about how the Fitt actually is a great at many parts of the job and that it could work with him staying….and retaining a large portion of his GM duties lol. At some point you think you could walk away from all your bad positions. You always got to keep one foot on the bag though.
-
He chooses to believe it because he dug in so hard for Fitt when everyone was telling him Fitt was garbage and should have been gone with Rhule. Which clearly he should have been. It gives him a Fitt isn’t that bad argument. It would totally make sense to keep the old bad GM in a cherry picked role still doing GM duties. Some how we would still have great GM candiates just lining up to apply and walk into another Panther mess lol
-
Yep, you can’t overhaul the entire scouting department overnight. But you can gut and replace all the decision makers at the top. I agree Morgan has to go with Fitt.
-
it's just word play. I call it what you don't want it called. I call it how I think a new GM coming in would view things. It's already not attractive. But if Fitterer stays and keeps the bulk of his GM duties.....what does that make him in reality? Especially for all those already employed here? You then alluded to the 49ers assistant GM as the perfect comparison for the plan (which it's a bad comparison as I showed).
-
my offer stands, when you are ready to come to grips on how wrong you were....I'll be here....
-
Noted. OP was off to a good start about finding a new GM. Then folks started sh-tting it up by talking about how actually Scott Fitterer should actually just retain most of his duties as GM. Which really derails the whole new GM talk.
-
So....you have no argument. Gotcha. You could of just said that. It's less words. I knew Miles Sanders was a bad add and not as billed. I talked about that a lot. I knew the WR corps Scott put together wasn't good enough. I talked about that a lot. I knew the parts we put together didn't fit. I talked about that a lot. I knew Bryce was going to play small ball all year, slow WRs and opposing defense would eat it up and sit on our pass game. I talked about that a lot. I knew Scott Fitterer was a bad GM and wanted him gone a year ago. I talked about that a lot. Of course, I talked about all that before week 1 ever kicked off. Maybe I'm just a lucky guesser. Which could be true.
-
we could bring back Ron, Marty and Cam Newton all for 1 season....and win more games than we did this year. And that's just Cam playing straight read option with Chubba and never passing.
-
I mean, it is pretty useless to talk to me and present an argument that Scott Fitterer should remain employed in Carolina. I don't disagree with that. Because it's silly, really. So again, what really good GM.....would want to take a job where the really bad GM remains and is retaining a bulk of what is his job? I've yet to here the argument on that. I have heard how sweet Scott Fitterer is though.
-
Marty Hurney was a much better GM than Scott Fitterer. And if you only judge them 3 years into the job....Marty Hurney was on another planet. Marty actually even gave the illusion he was good early on.
-
I mean, you still attempting to defend Scott Fitterer in Carolina is definitely more emotional than logical. "I'm still right guys, Scott Fitterer is really good at some things!!".
-
that's not similar. Peters worked his way into the role of being Lynch's assistant. And is called such. He wasn't some leftover from a bad prior regime that simply got to keep duties.
-
average people, don't want to be internet celebrity for a week and deal with all the bad that comes with it.
