  1. and I'll still argue, Theilen wasn't actually good. He was a slow savvy vet playing the slot we force feed.....that basically gave you none of the upside you really would be looking for there. if you look at yards per catch by actual WRs.....it was checkdown down city overall on the year. You have to get to like WR # 60+ in terms of yardage on the year to find someone getting less per catch. Adam Thielen can't be our #1 focal point in the passing game IMO.
  2. my best guess is Canales is largely just a players coach. I'd safely say a better present day playcaller than Frank Reich too. But I don't think he is some offensive guru. Which probably is what an anomoly like Bryce Young actually needs to have a shot at panning out.
  3. very true. Routes and plays open for some NFL arms are definitely not open for others. That's where I think some of this discussion is blurred. You can't just look at separation time with no context. Diggs and Chark aren't going to be in comparable scenarios while NFL open..... Allen can laser a ball in during a tiny window and not be properly set. Bryce can't.
  4. hard to feel super great when so many of the big brains and past decision makers.....are still in house fixing it. Tepper and Nicole are constants. Fitterer's right hand man is now the man. Game of Thrones mastermind and new hire helper Jim Caldwell is still advising. Old man Capers still here. A huge percentage of the old staff is still in house given Evero was retained. New face in the HC just doing standard coach speak. this just doesn't feel like a new chapter to me. Feels like a really bad franchise tweaked something because Frank wouldn't listen to them enough.
  5. that's no high bar though. Hell, the Bears backup QB last season looked just as promising as Bryce Young.
  6. personally, on the journey of getting old(er)....I have been really excited about the crazy and super growth of ear and nose hair.
  7. a year ago, the board told me we were playoff bound baby!!!! with an awesome staff and one of the best rosters we have seen in a long time.
  8. well, it depends on what you think of Bryce Young. I personally don't think he has the tools to be very successful at this level and his value will just keep dropping. And if you think that, his value is probably relatively high right now because you can blame it on Frank and that horrific O he called. it's year 2, and it certainly sounds like they have little interest in building a Bryce Young O. So what's the actual point? I mean, it's not going to happen but I'd just cut bait on the Bryce experience. He is too much of an anomaly physically and odds are against it ever working out.
  9. yeah, you said both....but they didn't draft any pro bowlers pre Stroud. That was my point. then you list a bunch of defensive guys when this is clearly at the end of the day about offense and setting up your young QB to be successful. While a good D aids in winning games.....it really doesn't have much to do with how Stroud vs Young look as young QBs. I mean, we drafted Derrick freaking Brown. Who is better than all 3 of them. And if it's just a talent question, we drafted Horn. Who has it coming out the ears. Just seems like are grand effort to diminish how much better Stroud is/was than Bryce. the NFL is about QB/playcalling. The Texans had both. We had zero.
  10. Pre Stroud, what Pro Bowlers did they draft? They have had 1 Pro Bowler in their OT and he wasn't drafted by them. a dude like Nico Collins wasn't doing anything before Stroud came along. most of the Texans biggest investment pre Stroud have been on the D. Texans drafted a legit QB and paired him with a legit playcaller. The secret sauce isn't complicated. You get that, you will have success in the NFL. We had neither.
  11. I mean, I think Bryce Young will look better in a functional offensive scheme and paired with a competent play-caller. Frank Reich did no one any favors. but that alone isn't going to make me eat crow. Bryce Young was selected #1 overall and we gave up a ton for him. His bar is appearing to be special. Not a little better.
  12. Bryce Young paired with our coaching was just horrible. Stroud wasn't walking in the door w/ good offensive skill players around him. going into last season, 90% of the board would have said Carolina was a better place to land. QB and play calling reigns supreme. Houston had it. We didn't.
  13. We also don't have Marshawn Lynch. But yeah, Wilson scrambling out and gambling big downfield is what made that whole paring work. Not to mention the historic D. I hate when teams trying to model after other teams personally. I think Fitterer is the one that started the let's be like Seattle mindset. We don't need to try to mimic that formula.
  14. That's not what I am saying. I'm saying despite how great JJ is.....it still wasn't enough to win games in Minny. So what's he going to do for us given our sad state of affairs? No point dumping insane money into a WR if you are Carolina. We got too many issues to even think about dumping money into a mega star WR.
  15. might as well just trade Bryce Young while his value is still high. That's not building an O for your #1 overall pick. but worth noting, that isn't his QB or pick. That's the former HC/GMs pick.
  16. well, I don't walk away from that talk/plan of action thinking that our new HC believes Bryce Young was a #1 overall give up the farm type QB. Any HC in 2024 that is putting his emphasis on running the rock and seeing what happens imo doesn't believe they drafted someone that has "it".
  17. Vikings have had 3 losing season with JJ and zero playoffs wins. He isn't going to come here and solve anything for us. I'd rather sign a bunch of good players than one super stud given where we are right now. Until we solve our QB problems in Carolina, little is going to matter.
  18. DJ Moore was and is 1 WR. The argument only Steve Smith has been one is redefining the position so that there are only about 5 actual #1 WRs existing in any given season.
  19. Not a color issue, but young men not having a father (or reliable father figure) in their lives is the constant trend for so many young men that fail to live up to the standards needed in our society. Black, white or purple. All the same. that’s not a shot a single mom’s but the facts are the facts on that. That’s a shot at men for disappearing and not being men.
  20. Primary dude was trash talking Cam on social media and calling him a bum. These were the coaches too….no amount of trash talk is an excuse to jump a man given the environment. I think people think it is okay to be disrespectful to Cam Newton. See that ramped up in his retirement. That’s basically been his entire career. Now you got dudes finding out that real life ain’t social media.
  21. dude with the backpack was talking mad trash on the field prior about Cam. Just your random nobody poo talking about someone he thinks is a bum that won….. a Hesiman, NC, NFLROY, NFL MVP, etc social media a factor. All these main characters with a cell phone thinking they all special. Old men living through kids that got no business coaching to begin with.
  22. There is overpaying.....and then there is paying Brian Burns like an elite DE. Would we have to slightly overpay some average joes and good dudes to come here? Sure. Maybe. But that doesn't handicap your team like Burns would IMO. We need lots of peices to fix this broken mess. We are in quantity over quality mode IMO. We need to build a functional O and a more well rounded D.
  23. I mean, Carolina could go out and probably find a better all around DE if they want one. Maybe we should just focus on adding more solid players, filling holes and getting a great working D schematically. Burns is best suited for a team that scores a lot of points.....and just pass rush all game. And then he needs the interior play to aid him because his pass rushing game is just too one dimensional. Burns is great at one thing. Meh at too many other aspect of the position. It's just bad business IMO to pay him given what we are and what we need to become.
  24. I mean, Burns just isn't that guy. He doesn't have that type impact on the D and defense. People wanting to dump comical money into a dude that was the best defender on the team......one season in his career? And that wasn't a recent one.
  25. too early BUT... if you had to give it an early grade it's a F-
