  1. Masks are proven to help slow the spread of respiratory illness. If people want to get back to normal activities this is one of the things we're going to have to do because it's not effective unless almost everyone does it. Seeing as to how this is America and "if you tell me something is smart and responsible to do I'm going to do the exact opposite because fug you" is the guiding philosophy in the lives of millions, I wholeheartedly believe cities, counties, and states are going to end up having to force people to do it. It's simple: if fewer people are exposed to the virus, then fewer people get infected. Eventually the r0 dips below 1 and the virus runs out of avenues to infect new people. If your droplets are mostly contained, then even if you're sick and out in public, it's less likely that you're going to infect someone.
  2. Have you noticed how certain posters will say the government is doing a bad job all day long but they'll tie themselves in knots to avoid specifically criticizing the actual people who are running the government.
  3. See the first page of this thread for other similarly amazing predictions
  4. I like this post because it's a tacit admission that you think it's stupid as hell to have a gigantic circle jerk right now but your gag reflex as a Republican won't let you admit it, so your first reaction is "well what about... " But to answer your question, one of those groups thinks trying to get people to wear masks in public is a liberal conspiracy to steal their freedom.
  5. I saw that article too. It was something like, front-line workers in Wuhan were tested and it was found that 4-5% of them still had antibodies a few months out. That's with it being thought that up to 25ish% of them might have been infected.
  6. One thing to remember is that deaths lag new cases. If new cases continue to spike with deaths either staying steady or not spiking proportionally then that lends credence to your point.
  7. Why are people talking about the President during a massive crisis. I don't get it, could someone please explain it to me.
  8. Is this a new study being reported on or is it just somebody on a morning show giving their opinion. I Googled "20 million tests per day" and found references to a Harvard report from mid-late April suggesting that number needs to be reached by midsummer but that's all I could find from a cursory look https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/04/20/1000228/the-us-will-need-to-do-20-million-tests-a-day-to-reopen-safely/
  9. a) We already talked about that a few pages ago starting here: Includes a link to her anti-vaxx non-profit registrations. I think she's a grifter and that's why I don't trust her. b) I think there is good investigative journalism being done actually. This isn't it though. c) I'm talking about James O'Keefe who keeps losing slander lawsuits for his edited videos. He also dressed up like a pimp and tried to "seduce" a CNN anchor onto some boat with a bunch of sex toys and porn everywhere. Obviously it didn't work. I mean if you think he's a great guy who tells the truth and is worth defending then that's your take on it. Also if you're anti-vaccine yourself then that's fine, that's your opinion.
  10. Yep all I'm saying is that I want more evidence than that. Is that allowed? I suppose not. You know it's endlessly amusing to me that people in my age group were ranted at non-stop growing up about how trash TV and the internet were destroying our brains and ruining our ability to think critically. In an amazing twist ending it turns out those most susceptible to it were actually the people who were saying that in the first place! Directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
  11. This is what's going to happen Eventually there is going to be some kind of revelation that some COVID-related fugery occurred somewhere as happens every day when we're talking about our half-broken for-profit monstrosity of a healthcare system. Some non-COVID deaths coded as COVID. Some severely edited "whistleblower" video from a dipshit like James O'Keefe or one of his surrogates where a hospital administrator talks about what a money maker COVID is. You know it's going to happen eventually, and we all know what comes next. It doesn't matter if it squares with what they were claiming or if it was even anything all that rare in the hospital billing/insurance/federal aid arena- this has become such an ideologically heated issue that anything that seems to come remotely close to confirming their worldview will be seized on.
  12. I feel bad that you wrote this book when if you Google this woman's name you'll find all the anti-vaxx non-profits registered to her name in Florida. She's an activist trying to get famous. e: Yeah it is a very powerful accusation, which is why if you're alleging a huge murder for profit scheme that would make the Mafia blush you need a mountain of evidence or I'm not going to believe you. Give me multiple corroborating accounts from people who don't have a history in anti-vaccine activism or aren't allied with other kooks, give me a paper trail, give me all the proof that has to exist because of the dozens, possibly hundreds, of people in on this scheme. What you're doing here is shifting the burden of proof:
  13. Fraud happens every day in insurance/Medicare/Medicaid billing and so on. I'm sure it's happening right now in the present crisis. I'm sure there are a non-zero number of non-COVID deaths that are classified as COVID deaths either by accident or perhaps intentionally. If you're saying there is a large-scale conspiracy going on where hospitals are intentionally killing people for federal money though you're going to need a shitload more evidence to convince me than an anti-vaccine activist with multiple non-profit corporations registered to her pretending to be a regular every day nurse putting it all on the line to tell the truth on YouTube.
  14. I'm discounting what she says because she seems like a grifter. Ah amateur conspiracy YouTube. Also worth noting that that channel is like 10 days old.
  15. The woman in the video is also an antivaxxer e: that link was broken for some reason She has like five corporations registered to her name http://search.sunbiz.org/Inquiry/CorporationSearch/SearchResults/OfficerRegisteredAgentName/Olszewski, Edward J./Page1
  16. This has absolutely ripped open major, underlying problems with American society and our system of government. Whether or not anything changes remains to be seen. I will say that the conversation does seem starkly different but that has to translate into action.
  17. Let's say some guy walks out his front door, gets in his car equipped with air bags, crumple zones, seat belts, and other modern safety features, and drives off. He gets fuging creamed in an intersection by somebody running a red light. He survives but is badly shaken up. What he takes from the incident is that all the safety features of his car are a waste of time because he didn't even die or suffer massive injuries. Not only that, he's no longer wearing his seat belt and is going to pull the fuse for his air bags because he's decided he doesn't believe in the concept of accidents and won't be in another one in his entire life. If you're on of those "the lockdowns were pointless because 'only' 100,000 people died" guys, this story is about you.
  18. Wrong, it's a gigantic global conspiracy to make the President look bad. Why just yesterday there was somebody wandering around my neighborhood asking if I had any family members who had died recently so they could code their deaths as COVID. There are much more credible sources of information out there than the LAME (see what I did there) stream media, like this round man with a red face who sells supplements and yells a lot you should check out on YouTube.
  19. Saying that the protests are over something as generalized and non-specific as "authority" is uh something of a mischaracterization
  20. The opportunity for this to be a non-political public health issue was back in January or maybe early February. Obviously it didn't happen that way.
