I've got it Hey did you guys know that liberals hate masks? Just the other day I was watching Rachel Maddow and she said that masks suck and only conservatives wear masks as a way to voice their disapproval of Hillary Clinton.

For the billionth time, wearing a mask reduces your chance of spreading a respiratory illness to other people. It isn't intended to protect you. Just say you don't want to wear a mask instead of trying to "uh well akshually if you look up the exact dictionary definition of 'prevent' then it's clear that *snort*... " your way out of it.

There were tons of mistakes made, particularly early in the pandemic by smart people who should know better. The onus is on us to learn from it. Of course that doesn't mean anybody is going to do it, and here we are.

The fact that we're debating wearing masks as a matter of political ideology in a respiratory illness pandemic is just sad. Also it's really cool that none of you are debating the death numbers now. Like three weeks ago it was all a gigantic conspiracy to make the President look bad. If they spike again I suppose we'll see a lot of people pivoting back to their YouTube videos of antivaxx nurses risking it all to tell the truth and people yelling in hospital parking lots.

I guess we'll just have to see huh.

I'm just waiting for some Karen to get lavished with praise from right wing media outlets for refusing to comply with a mask order at her hobby boutique that's open three days a week or something. Except the mechanics of how wearing a mask works and how it's effective aren't complicated. Yeah if you can wear a mask and refuse to my default assumption is that you're a moron. Yeah when some people say that everybody just needs to be safe and take responsibility they mean everybody else. If everybody else is wearing a mask then I'm protected so who cares. Kind of like how anti-vaxxers have sprung out of a world where awful things like polio and smallpox have been virtually eliminated thanks to vaccines. If everybody's vaccinated then it's safe to a certain degree for a bunch of dumbasses to spew a bunch of crap about how vaccines are poison and how smart and special they are for not vaccinating their kids.

Yeah that's what I was wondering about. There were a couple of anecdotes and preprints about blood type and COVID severity going around back in March and April but there have been subsequent studies that established it more firmly.
