my wife had a friend a few years ago who was jerking her around like that-making plans and not following through, standing her up, being awkward, etc. her behavior just kind of inexplicably changed over night. she was still friendly and bordering on flirty with me which didn't sit well with my wife naturally. it seemed like she was trying to play head games and it slowly started to boil over. my wife lost her patience, there was an eventual confrontation which the friend did not take well at all, and that was the last of it. all i learned from it was that i don't understand female social dynamics at all and i just need to worry about keeping the cars running and the yard maintained.

Panthers Final Decision On Hardy : No Thanks
The NFL Shield At Midfield replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
why didn't they play him? because roger goodell would have suspended him without pay if we did. gettleman was open about the fact that discipline from the panthers wasn't on the table in the joint press conference that he gave with ron rivera after hardy was de-activated against detroit. the exempt list was a favor to hardy but he pissed all over it by barely showing his face in the building which his status allowed him to do. everything that was coming out of the panthers camp prior to the ray rice video was that they were going to let the legal process play out. we got caught up in the NFL's scramble for damage control, goodell came down with an ultimatum, and here we are. -

it was like when leroy hill was tagged by the seahawks a few years ago: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81001a5c/article/seahawks-rescind-franchise-tag-on-hill-make-veteran-lb-a-free-agent they rescinded the tag because he refused to sign his tender so they got the cap space back. if he had signed his tender, they were locked in. it'd be like if we franchised hardy and he signed his tender but we couldn't find a trade partner. if we just cut him we would eat the cap charge for the tag-we couldn't just rescind it and walk away. sorry my wife was watching this documentary about these crazy ass fan theories surrounding "the shining" and all the symbolism and poo in it so my brain is kind of fried -

i'm talking about the concept of franchising him and trading him as so many have suggested in this topic. followed by, as proudiddy suggested, rescinding the tag if we need the cap space. i know you can't tender a UFA. that argument didn't make sense to me because what i remembered from the peppers situation was that he held off from signing his tender which meant we couldn't trade him, and when he signed we already had the cap charge to deal with and were locked in and couldn't get out of it. we couldn't just rescind the tag and get the cap space back which would mean what proudiddy suggested wouldn't work. -

he could also hold out and not sign his tender like peppers did which would mean we couldn't move him. did you consider that? e: somebody who knows this stuff better please educate me. we can't trade him until he signs the tender but once he signs the tender can the tag be rescinded with no penalty? that doesn't sound right. if that's the case we'd be fuged either way. -

so let him walk for nothing anyway effectively accomplishing dick when nothing predictably happens with the trade? but hey at least we can say we tried which will make everyone happy. we need the space the second free agency starts. what's the time table on a trade exactly? we'd need to have him traded almost instantaneously for this to work otherwise we'd be hauling his big ass cap figure around crippling our ability to sign anyone. there's no chance and you need to let it go. you have an ideological beef with the idea of "letting an asset walk for nothing" and it makes good soapbox banter but in reality there isn't a better alternative. -

i'm not trying to act like this isn't bad news and if i ran the panthers i'd try to sign him but acting like he got fuged by the FO and there's a bunch of simple stuff we should've done differently is some weak poo. if anything they took the baseball bat to the nuts in the form of paying the guy to do nothing and taking all the piss and vinegar from the fans and press. the FO really could have just washed their hands of him and left him to the tender mercies of a roger goodell who needed to do serious damage control to the image of the league, but they didn't. -

yeah man stay away from those panthers. if the commish threatens you with a suspension they'll just pay you $13 million plus playoff bonus to sit on the couch and they'll still let you use their facilities. even if you're barely seen there are still millions of dumb baby fans on the internet who'll cut their wrists for you and claim you got a raw deal. -

I Mean He Was Found Guilty, but he filed an appeal which granted him a trial de novo which nullified the original conviction until the jury trial could take place. it's a quirk in north carolina law. then the DA couldn't track down nicole holder earlier this month which kind of makes it hard to go forward with a trial so the case was dismissed. tldr he was never found "not guilty". -

those of you going "hur hur protect the shield the panthers don't care about their players morals over wins amirite guys" you need to consider that the deal they cut with goodell saved hardy's ass from a suspension without pay and also allowed him to be in the building and work out in the panthers' facilities. those are two advantages he wouldn't get if the alternative happened. per numerous reports he declined the opportunity which just pissed the FO off even more. if gettleman would have done what all you billy badasses suggested and done donuts on goodell's yard in his shelby mustang while smoking a marlboro red and flipping the bird hardy would have been suspended without pay and barred from 800 south mint. -

my screen name satirizes low content posts made by people last offseason who didn't understand the legal situation hardy was in and thought they were being clever. maybe i should stick to that theme and change it to "Sign Greg Hardy and Trade Him If He Gets in Trouble Again" -

hardy had turned down big money before so an extension wasn't going to happen easily. what's the alternative, let him walk for nothing? isn't that what everyone has a shitty diaper over right now? -

yeah couple problems there chief -greg's agent is drew rosenhaus whose job is to keep him from signing a deal like that. there are going to be teams waving $20+ million guaranteed in his face with no strings attached and they'll both laugh at our deal as they ink one of those. "personal behavior" clauses also draw the ire of the NFLPA and if we attempt to exercise it it's going to be a drawn out battle. -as for trading him if he gets in trouble again, no team in the league would give us a damn thing for a guy with a track record of trouble who's in the poo again with a possible suspension looming. they'd just wait for us to cut him if they wanted to take a chance. shouldn't teams be lining up to trade for justin blackmon if this concept works? -"Front office has no balls when it comes to bad press." bullshit-greg is on chance three or four since this entire thing started. after the conviction the panthers let him play rather than disciplining him-there were multiple quotes from the panthers that we were going to let the legal process play out. then ray rice happened and the NFL had a major PR problem on their hands. then roger goodell came down on the team with an ultimatum (remember the press conference where gettleman reiterated several times that suspension was never on the table from the panthers) and greg hardy was basically put on paid vacation. this designation allowed him to be in the building and work with the team which he didn't do per multiple reports. the FO stuck their neck out for him as best they could and he more or less told them to fug off. -"To let him go and get nothing in return is effing stupid." i keep seeing this like it's the most original thought in the world and the panthers are just too dumb to see it. we couldn't get a shoelace in return for greg hardy right now. if we tagged him nobody in the entire league would table a thing for him because there's no threat whatsoever that the panthers would extend him which is what drives tag and trades in the first place. he'd have a massive cap hit and it's extremely likely we'd be carrying it all year so wave goodbye to all those FAs we need to sign. the answer to this isn't as simple as you think it is. the panthers were in the wrong place at the wrong time, period. -

man imagine how bad this is going to make us look to potential FAs! "don't sign with those panthers man. if you get in trouble they'll cut a deal with the commish and pay you $13 million (plus a playoff bonus) to rest up and spit hot fire instead of letting you get suspended without pay" -

If we land a Michael Oher and a Stevie Johnson or Hartline it's entirely possible Getts goes pass rusher in the first. Hell it's possible no matter what if the right prospect is there. -

That's just how it is. We were lucky enough to be a test case for the NFL's new DV policies . On top of that it's a sore topic for our owner and per multiple sources Greg blew off chances to be with the team and work in the building in favor of his rap career. -

it only works if there is a serious threat that the team applying the tag would sign him long term. in this scenario every other team in the league would go "yeah you guys have fun with that. talk to you next offseason when you're a free agent greg and drew". what would his cap figure be anyway, close to $20 million? that would buttfug our ability to do anything at all in free agency. Furthermore what time table are we looking at? We'd have to have him traded at like the starting gun of FA to have any chance at even the mid tier guys.
