  2. The Panthers were blinded by the fact that Sam Darnold was a high rated #1 draft pick, while Gardner Minshew was a sixth-round draft pick. Hind sight is 20/20, so we all know how this turned out.
  3. This is an interesting article: Philadelphia Eagles: To trade or not to trade Gardner Minshew by Matty Breisch 1 month ago Gardner Minshew (probably) isn’t the Philadelphia Eagles‘ franchise quarterback. I know, I know, talk about a hot take, but it’s true; Minshew is a 6-foot-1, unathletic game manager who does the vast majority of his damage within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage. Minshew will be 26 when the 2022 NFL season opens up and when his current contract expires next March, he will surely demand a whole lot more than $965,000 in compensation on a future deal. In the right scheme, Minshew can be successful. With a good defense and a savvy head coach, Minshew could even lead a team to the playoffs, but it’s hard for most teams to justify building their entire scheme and thus staking their future on a quarterback who doesn’t do anything at an elite level. If the Eagles retain Minshew heading into 2022, it’ll surely be as a one-year rental. He’ll play out the year – or won’t play, since he’s a backup quarterback – and look to the open market for a new opportunity in 2023. But on another team? One that believes itself “a quarterback away” from taking a vital step forward? Well, Minshew is an enticing trade chip, as he’s a cheap, young veteran with 22 starts under his belt and a galvanizing personality. But if teams come calling, should the Philadelphia Eagles answer the phone? And if they do strike a deal, what options are on the table to replace “The Stache?” Let’s try to answer those questions. Trading Gardner Minshew isn’t inherently a bad idea for the Philadelphia Eagles. Having a fourth-year signal-caller backup one in his third year is weird. Normally, when a team has a young quarterback, especially one who either needs more seasoning or could benefit from some competition, their front office will bring in a veteran signal-caller with a few successful stints on their resume to serve as both a mentor and rival, depending on how things are going. In Joe Flacco, the Eagles had a perfect mentor, even though his successful days on the field are likely over. After developing a bit of a reputation for being hard to work with both in Baltimore and Denver, Flacco appears to have accepted where he falls in the NFL landscape and has been useful to both the Eagles’ and Jets’ quarterbacks room. Minshew, by contrast, only has one more year of experience in the NFL than Jalen Hurts and thus only presents the rival part of the formula, not the mentor. Simply put: If Gardner Minshew was a 21-year-old rookie sixth-round pick, that would be one thing, but when he’s a team’s 1B, it’s sort of a problem. If, by contrast, the Philadelphia Eagles can trade Minshew for a Day 3 pick and then use it on a developmental quarterback, it could be the move, but only if they secure the right backup quarterback.
  4. Dear Deshaun, Thank you for saving the Panthers from themselves and doing even more self destructing damage to the team, something they have a history of being very good at. Hopefully, you can find some great massage parlors in the city you chose and use your millions to help keep that business profitable. Sincerely, KatsAzz
  5. Yes,a great thank you should be sent to Watson for saving the Panthers from themselves and doing even more self destructing, something they have a history of being good at...
  6. Considering the overall cost, I am personaly relieved the Panthers will not get Watson, something i have repeated since day one. However Tepper, who has allowed one mistake after the other, may feel like this an all-in defeat Missing out on Watson allows the Panthers to catch their breath, reevaluate and (hopefully for Panthers’ fans’ sake) move patiently. The Panthers were blindly willing to pay whatever it cost for Watson. Three first-round draft picks, a few mid-round selections and a combination of Jeremy Chinn, Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn or Brian Burns would have likely been dealt. I just could not justify gutting the present team and mortaging the future on one player that is not a sure bet to lead the team to a Super Bowl presently and perhaps never.I believe in building a team the old fashioned way, step by step by step.
  7. Chris Simms @CSimmsQB One thing I’ve heard on the Deshaun Watson front…while the Saints, Panthers, and Browns reached out to Deshaun, it was Deshaun who reached out to the Falcons. Could explain their involvement despite having Matt Ryan Cam Marino @MarinoNFL Listen to Rap on McAfee’s recent tweet. SOUNDS LIKE (!!!!!!) Matt is going to be moved. Quote Tweet Cam Marino @MarinoNFL Sounds like the bridge has been burnt between Matt Ryan & the Falcons, regardless of if the team acquires Deshaun Watson. Terrible scenario. Need to get Watson or they’re in trouble.
  8. Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer wrote on Thursday that the Panthers have gauged the parameters of a deal and would expect to lose three first-rounders, an additional piece of draft compensation and one or two of its young defensive starters. As for who those starters would be, the Texans may ask to chose from a promising group that includes defensive end Brian Burns, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, safety Jeremy Chinn and/or cornerback Jaycee Horn. Such a deal could effectively be forcing the Panthers to relinquish five first-round picks—with Burns, Brown and Horn representing each of the franchise’s last three No. 1 selections. So not only would that pound a crater into their defense, but it would also kneecap their chances of filling out the surrounding holes on the roster—and there are still quite a handful of them. Not to mention, Watson is about to enter the bulk of his four-year, $156 million contract extension. His cap hits for the remainder of that pact—keeping other positional needs in mind—will account for $40.4 million in 2022, $42.4 million in 2023, $37.4 million in 2024 and $32 million in 2025.
  9. That is my exact feeling. For the life of me i cannot see where purging the team of some of the best high profile players, plus giving up lots of future high draft picks that will be needed for continued success, all for one high salary player that would wreck the salary cap,no matter how good he is.
  10. Hmmm!!! Thinking outside te box, that is why it probably will happen.
  11. Great to see the Panthers re-sign WR Brandon Zylstra, even if it is only to a one-year contract. WR Brandon Zylstra, new signing WR Rashard Higgins and WR Terrace Marshall should battle it out in training camp to see who gets the most playing time in 2022.
  12. I may be one of the few Panther fans not on board with the obtaining Watson at all costs deal. While I agree Watson is a game changing QB, he would only be one player on a Panthers team that would presently lose some good players and gave up important draft choices, both important for continued team success.
  13. You are 100% correct. To have a irrational owner and a desperate head coach is a sure recipe for disaster.
  14. Just like all the other wild deals that have backfired on Panthers since Tepper became owner and Rhule became head coach.
  15. I have the same feeling after reading what Cleveland has to offer. In my opinion it would be a blessing if that happened. I just do not think weakening a team by gutting it of several elite players and giving up a lot of draft choices is the way to assure long term success.

While he does have corner and safety experience, he may lack the instincts and range to make plays from a high safety spot. He's more than tough enough to handle run support duties as a classic strong safety, but he's not as big as teams will like. Chandler has some special teams value and a load of intangibles. He's a good, but limited safety who could become a solid backup. Strengths Cornerback experience shows when guarding slot Always plays under control Covers kicks and can return punts Weaknesses Stocky build is on the borderline for size at the position Struggles to disengage from big blocking receivers and tight ends Can be bowled over by runners if pads are too high at impact Short strider with average field speed Below average getting over the top in single-high or two-deep Needs better reaction speed to close on throws in his neighborhood Has slight hitch before his plant to drive Lax in getting to deep responsibilities and ends up guarding space Doesn't shade according to quarterback's eyes Baited near end zone rather than playing with vision and instincts in coverage
  17. You are probably 100% correct in you assumption.
  18. Exactly. Watson is presently a disgruntled Quarterback forcing his way out of Houston and history often has a way of repeating itself. I wish I had more confidence in the Panthers brain trust to make sound decisions but going by all their past mistakes, for the life of me i cannot.
  19. Tom Bradys massive ego couldn't handle being out of the spotlight. It's why he announced his retirement during Super Bowl week - to get the spotlight on him and not on the teams actually playing and now he realized that people weren't talking about him enough. Sad.
  20. Exactly. I am concerned that Rhule will draft Pickett and make him the starting day QB,hoping it will save his sinking ship. I could be wrong but i cannot help feeling that Willis, given time, will be the best long term QB to come out of the 2022 NFL Draft.
  21. I would love to see the Panthers draft Liberty QB Malik Willis and let him sit behind Darnold for a year refining his obvious skillset, while adjusting to the NFL style of play. This would be a big step in building the Panthers foundation for long term success by securing the starting QB position . However, it would require temporary patience, something the Panthers seem to presently lack.
  22. Exactly. Gutting the team for Watson would have been a great mistake in my opinion. It would take a lot more than a Watson QB upgrade to make the Panthers a great team, considering what they would have to give up to obtain him.
  23. That is very sad. R.I.P. Joseph Lemmons aka u/Joslemmons.
  24. If the Panthers surrender at least three first-round picks, another draft pick, a young player or two and include Jeremy Chinn, Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, and/or Jaycee Horn, in my opinion it would cripple the team so bad it would take years for them to recover.
