Round 3 - The Carolina Panthers Select DJ Johnson - EDGE - Oregon
KatsAzz replied to rodeo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Some draft forecasters had Trenton Simpson rated as high as a top 50pick. Others knocked him, saying his short area quickness wasn't ideal for difficult coverage assignments or swiveling around in pursuit. -
I have mixed emotions about that.

(" If the majority of our fans dislike him, it prob means he will be a good player.") Point well taken. -

OREGON DEFENSIVE END DJ JOHNSON After starting his college career at Miami, then transferring to Oregon and flipping back and forth between tight end and defensive end, DJ Johnson has a unique profile as an older prospect who is also a project. He showed off an impressive combination of strength and speed by hitting 28 reps on the bench press and running a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine, but his technique is still a work in progress as a defensive lineman, especially as a pass-rusher. Johnson is still learning how to use his hands when rushing the passer and lacks a go-to move that he'll be able to win with at the next level. However, he is strong and physical at the point of attack as a run defender and showed flashes with his bull rush. Some teams might hold it against him that he'll turn 25 in October, but the Duck is a versatile edge who can play in either even or odd fronts. He will take some time to develop and while he is older, he is still new to the position which gives him more upside. -
When I first watched the tape on WR Jonathan Mingo, I could not help but think of former Panther WR Muhsin (Moose) Muhammad. They are both 6'2, 220 Lbs 4.45 or 4.50 speed and great hands. If Jonathan turns out to be anywhere close to Moose in his prime, the panthers not only will have gotten a steal, it will be a super steal.

That is for sure.

Jonathan Mingo has the hands and the body to follow in the Ole Miss-to-NFL footsteps of A.J. Brown and DK Metcalf. In a wide receiver class that's short on size, Mingo checked in at 6-2 and 220 pounds in Indianapolis, then put on quite an athletic display in the 40-yard dash (4.46 seconds), vertical leap (39.5 inches), broad jump (10-foot-9) and bench press (22 reps). Now he's one of the hottest names late in the process.

Hmmmmmm!!!! Guess so!!

That would be great if the Panthers could get anything of value from him.

That is something they are good at.

Matt Rhule said the same thing. LOL
