This is why Bryce Young undoubtedly is QB1
stan786 replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I do agree with cant be corrected, but I guess we've seen QBs that cant handle pressure eaten up in the NFL to a pretty high degree, Goff had one of the best QB coaches in the league and couldnt handle it. Its not like some of the issues Stroud could potentially have are easy to fix either. We both are going to be happy about drafting either of them, I guess I feel lately people just put total blinders up to legit hard to fix issues Stroud could potentially have but have a free for all going at something no one knows how big of an issue it really is. But I guess its more of one of those, people like the fear of the known more than the unknown. -

But why? What actually shows that to be true other than assumptions? Data tends to show lighter players get hurt less, Bryce's injury history isnt massive. What actually tells us that he's going to get hurt more other than he doesnt hit some magical number on the scale, that no one has ever shown actually means injuries greatly uptick. -

Sure but a large % of this board does, and thats what we end up arguing about. End of the day Stroud isnt some adonis either, I just dont understand why Bryce is the only one we should be concerned about. Coming from someone who also has them on the same level and flip flops pretty much daily. -

Kyler did the same thing tbh, NFL teams care about this a lot less than us fans do. Plenty of players hide their 40 times or other questionable traits at the combine all the time and still get drafted fine. Youngs durability is a concern sure, but its treated as a death blow on this board when no one actually knows. I'd say i'm more concerned about Levis staying healthy in the Pros than I am any of the other three personally with how violent he tries to run and how many injuries he's sustained doing it. -

This is my issue with the discussion in here. People act like its a definitive statement Bryce is going to get hurt at some insane level when there has been nothing to really show that will be the case, other than assumptions. CJ has a slight frame as well if we are being honest and is less mobile to avoid the hits. I wouldnt argue he's going to get hurt at some insane level but I just dont get why 200 lbs is the exact threshold where the injuries really start happening. Its not a binary thing, players big and small get hurt at varying levels of frequency, nothing in Bryce's past shows hes extremely susceptible to injury. Honestly being that small probably helps us put him in even less situations to get injured, a lot of these times teams are a lot more comfortable throwing these big QBs into harms way because of the same assumptions and it generally hasnt gone great for them. I'm all for discussing players just get confused why Bryces flaws are instantly fatal to so many just because they feel that makes sense, when neither guy is necessarily sturdy. -
Jason LaCanfora: Dave Tepper loves Bryce Young
stan786 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tepper has let his coaches make their own choices to their detriment in the past. Feels like he’s treated as a boogeyman in this regard when his issue has been hiring dumb people who make bad decisions. He’s feeling himself about this staff he’ll let them make their decision. -
Basically my opinion. I have a feeling Bryce is special but I probably draft Stroud if it was my team. But both looked exactly as you’d hope. Will be psyched regardless.

Those deep passes were decent though, confusing why we’d hammer a guy for throwing catchable deep balls and not a guy who was missing passes within ten yards. Note neither were bad, just feels like people are watching these with their biases already in place.

Pretty low key Pro Day, enjoyed how Bryce managed the calls and his receivers the whole day. Basically perfect Mid and Short range Didnt connect with Burton on 2-3 deep balls but 2 should have been caught and the third was a really nice ball imo. Hit the net on the roof on what would have been the most interesting throw of the day. Thought he had nice velocity on most his throws and the did a lot to simulate defenders in his face, I really enjoyed a number of beautiful throws he made about 15-20 yards deep toward the sideline. Definitely no real fireworks and the deep balls will be debated (thought they showed what they needed to) but overall it was a low key businessman like affair. Did some under center stuff, PA stuff, Shotgun, etc, felt like a checklist.

Does CJ get a pass for his struggles throwing left yesterday? Neither guy was perfect but they both showed everything they needed to and they both looked great.

Very nice and business like pro day showed everything he needed to. He’s got a vibe around him that I love. Very excited to get one of these guys, will be interesting how it plays out. Everyone taking these aggressive sides on these guys is hilarious, both are very good and will be very good imo. Im glad we are clearly giving them both serious consideration, can’t wait for the season already.

Sounds like he didn’t weigh in.

I will say trading up to 1 has been nice for us in making these prospects want to dine with us and let us in a little more. I remember last year when Tomlin kept getting all the dinner dates we wanted. Definitely good for the evaluation process.
-
Some people thought we’d tell the guy we wanted not to throw because there was no reason to do it. I always thought that was a little far fetched.
-
I’ve never been able to find an actual source on the rumor he’s not throwing, one guy said it in early March on Twitter but no one of note has reported it.

McCown to CJ : “Maybe when you move to Charlotte”

Texans arent going to Young's either. Its just their stance on Pro Days as a whole. -
Panthers are taking Stroud, and Houston knows it

No surprise, and it’ll likely be the exact same story tomorrow in Kentucky. The huddle is going to break when Reich smiles at Levis Friday I’m sure. -

Caserio has pretty vocal on how little he values Pro Days, I’ll be interested if they have the same number or scouts at Bama. I think this is going to be the Texans MO at most Pro Days though. -
Panthers to Send 11 Representatives to Ohio St Pro Day

If I was an owner the fan base would despise me because I'd be at literally everything. Why own a team if you cant enjoy things like this.- 358 replies

I’m fine with either. I see the pluses and minuses with both. Stroud is definitely safer. I think Young has a much more appealing skillset when comping to the top end QBs in the league right now though. I’m not very worried about his size. I don’t blame us if we are worried about it though, I think Stroud is going to be a very competent QB we can win a lot of games with.
-
I guess sure, but handling pressure is often a pretty innate ability, all goes back to processing and how you handle stress. Plenty of QBs have never been able to improve that facet. I’ve argued plenty that I think Stroud showed it in small bits during the end of the year before Georgia so I think it’s in there. But I can’t act like it’s not a legit concern and something that’s easily fixable. It can definitely be hidden with good game planning though, Rams did it with Goff until they had to commit a ton of money to him. Just saying if this QB fails it’s probably going to go against the entire FO anyways, it’s not like any of these prospects are perfect. So statements like that are just kinda shrug, we are gonna be pissed if we miss this pick regardless.

I get Richardson I just think Bryce’s processing ability puts him on another level of upside personally. Richardson could be very very very good but it’s a bit of semantics in my take probably. All the athleticism in the world is great but upside doesn’t have to just be that. Bryce movement in the pocket and the ability to master an offense and process is pretty incredible imo compared to the majority of QBs I’ve seen come out, that pushes his upside up a ton, especially if he gains a litte arm strength like most QBs do in the NFL (I agree with your average arm take, it’s my bigger worry than his weight) and actually fits into an nfl offense at his size. I think the sky’s the limit. End of the day they are both big outliers though Bryce’s size and Richardson with his accuracy (only guys taken in the first with accuracy around his is literally Josh Allen). I loved the Burrow comp from Stroud but I think Burrows superpower is how he handles pressure both in the pocket and in game scenarios and I think that’s something you are hoping Stroud can improve on greatly in the nfl personally. I think I have a hard time imagining what Young is in the NFL if he does fail which is why I think his floor is so low though. Richardson at least has the rushing to keep him on the field for a couple years.

I’d argue Bryce has the highest ceiling and lowest floor of all the QBs. It’s fascinating. I’ve been on record saying I’m not worried about his size, I think it’s overhyped on this board. I’d be totally fine if we wanted to play it safe with Stroud who I think at min is Jared Goff and has some legit upside. That arm is gorgeous. Bryce feels like a guy if he hits is going to be able to carry teams to success with his processing and pocket skills. I’m super intrigued.
