Yeah its basically a glorified LB, Chinn was built in the lab for that position and its one of the reasons Gus would excite me.
-
I feel like Kevin Patullo from the eagles is a more natural fit with connections, but i'd 100% be going after one of them.
-
Feel like Chinn would get back to what he does best as a SS in that system as well.
-
Not really most our young edge rushers fit that mold tbh. Derrick Brown would be natural fit at a 3-4 end imo, i think we could really go either way.
-
Would be ecstatic to get Stroud, hes the one I feel has the lowest bust potential out of the big 4. I'd 100% trade a large number of picks to get him. I would imagine Reich and Fitt have a green light to go up and get a guy if they want him. Will be fun to watch the draft lead up.

I'm not crowning RIchardson but looking a little harder at that data only 2 QBs drafted in the First Round meet that criteria Josh Allen and Trey Lance. Generally the odds of hitting after the first drops considerable so most of these "failed" Qbs probably didnt have much of a chance anyways. Lance and Allen would both be examples of the type of prospect he is though and I understand being nervous on the whole "How does he develop" side of it. Personally id prefer Richardson to Levis because I think Richardson does more things I appreciate from NFL QBs than Levis does in terms of working the pocket and more off script stuff, but I get the alternative opinions. End of day i'm going to be fine with whichever of the 4 we take. Young and Stroud are definitely safer but Levis and Richardson both have Elite Upside and i'll trust Reich to work and develop them.

Yup, every team has some sort of holes. Locking down the QB spot makes it a lot easier to actively target and fill those holes. We've built a good base and its a very friendly spot to Develop a young guy in. Time to go get your guy.
-
You can get a bridge QB without having to pay up for one of the top Free Agent QBs, if we dont get Young or Stroud we'll still more than likely take and develop a QB in the first that'll be the guy no later than Week 1 the next season.
-
If we pull off Fangio and Stroud I dont think I could be happier, which is weird to say about Reich. But man what a dream that would be.

Do you trust Reich to find us (and develop) a franchise QB?

I agree he wont call the plays and the QC and QB Coach will be big of course but he definitely will be in the QB and the OCs ear in terms of development and gameplanning. That QB is going to be his golden goose. Can still be a CEO Coach while taking a serious interest in the QB development path. -
Agreed, you can usually fill the holes in free agency with the cap space relief a Rookie QB gives you. The cap is going to go up a decent amount next year with the new TV deal money. Feels like with the contracts we have rolling off, the ability to structure extensions smartly, the cap jump that may come, and the Rookie QB Contract we could withstand the brunt of the pain of missing some picks for the next year or two. Ideally it would look more like the Rams trade than the 9ers trade but at this point I think its time to make the move and go for it.
-
Would you give up what the Rams did in 2017 to move up from 15 to 1? Would be 2023 1st, 2 2nds, 3rd 2024 1st, 3rd for 2023 1.01, 4th, 6th

Honestly a lot of his reporting this off season has kinda felt lazy. Every article on the coaching search was about Sean Payton with a blurb at the end about Wilks. It feels like the building shut him off from any information or something.

The team trading draft capital for Derek Carr would be an unmitigated disaster and would show that neither the front office or the new Head Coach have learned from their numerous past disasters. A bridge QB is fine but the plan 100% needs to be find your QB in the draft and get him, that is the single most important item on the list right now and will determine a lot of our future. Tepper is clearly frustrated by the rotation of Quarterbacks in and I would be astounded if he hired someone who was telling him we should do the exact same thing. Go get a Brissett that knows the system and would be comfortable being the backup from Day 1 if it turned out like that, but dont trade draft capital or spend big money on another refurb QB when that was the cause of so much pain for all parties involved. -

Wilks did a fine job, he inherited the job a game back in the very bad NFC South and he finished the year a game back in the very bad NFC South. It was nice seeing the team play up to around where they should have. The guy had a chance to put his foot on Tepper's throat and take the job and he couldn't learn from the past and try and go for the win. Its time the panthers played to win instead of playing not to lose. I can very much give Wilks props for doing what he did and I am thankful for his calming and steadying hand during the Season, but it defiantly was not enough to counter the tides of the NFL. I'm very thankful Tepper understands that the NFL is about offense and Quarterbacks and that we finally have a coach that is competent in both of those. If Reich isnt great he'll have the same steadying hand Wilks has while being able to properly develop our next big investment in whatever QB we draft in the first round. Having your Head Coach being directly involved with your QB is something that cant be replaced even with good OC hires because good OC hires become HCs very quickly. Young QBs need stability. Ideally Reich is it, even if he's not he'll be pushing us in the direction we need to go and he 100% has more upside than what Wilks would have brought. That is just the truth of the NFL. There is nothing I've seen to show Wilks is an outlier Defensive minded coach that will actually be able to regularly make the playoffs. Currently there seems to be only one of those in the NFL in McDermott and his fanbase is starting to get a little itchy about his lack of success in those playoffs. -
Anyone who mentions Mike McCoy should get banned ngl. Last thing we need him near the reigns of an offense here.
-
While I agree with the take that I need to see what they do with a QB, I feel like Brissett would be the name that would give me comfort we are actually drafting a guy. Carr or Jimmy G etc I’d be running for the hills.

Coaching Interview Thread IV: A New Hope

What I don’t understand from the Wilks with Reich as OC crowd. If we use the Cardinals forcing hires and QBs on Wilks as a reason his Arizona days were so bad why would forcing coaches on him this time be any better. Feels like if you make the decision to hire Wilks giving him his own autonomy would be the right way to go about it. If you can’t trust him to hire his own guys what do you do if Reich leaves for another job and why do you hire him in the first place. -

He looks like a troll account, like no tweets and then one saying Macadoo was enchanted with Willis at 6. Also the bio screams troll. -
Coaching Interview Thread IV: A New Hope

Honestly with this division Wilks probably wins it at 9-8 and sticks around alternating 7 and 9 win seasons till we grow tired of him. -
He interviewed Jan 14th, cant interview again until Jan 30th. Been a few people in the media saying we were disappointed in the interview.
-
Somehow Reich had a better winning % in Indy than Pederson had in Philly.
-
I agree with this, if we draft a QB I'm happy with Reich as I find that ideally fixes his biggest issue in Indy immediately. If we end up with a Carr or whatever I'll very much flip to the unhappy side of things.
-
I just dont get why people assume thats what hes going to want to do again, it clearly wasnt something he enjoyed doing in Indianapolis just didnt have the draft position to actually grab someone. Tepper also has seemed pretty pissed about how we've handled QBs and notably wanted Fields during that draft. Feels like two people who finally get the chance to stop doing whats caused them so many problems for so many years.
-
Wentz was all Reich, also had his best years under Reich, but also in the situation they were in at the time they weren't in a great spot to get a guy to develop. One of those situations where you are too good to get what you actually need. Luck retiring screwed him, but also if we go Reich we have to go Rookie QB IMO or I'm going to struggle to believe Tepper and Reich can ever fix it with a retread.
