  2. I like the person that always gives my sidelines threads one star.... lol
  3. In what was a great record breaking win for the Carolina Panthers, a few key details are beginning to emerge as story lines as the NFL playoffs grows near. 1. Cam Newton is the League MVP. It really isn't even a question. Cam may not be the best player in the league, but he is the most valuable player to any team in the league. Without Cam, this Panthers team would be no where near a winning record. 2. This defense is dominating. And when I say dominating I mean completely dismantling teams at their core. This is the type of defense that wins Superbowls. 3. Mike Tolbert is our best option at running back. He is just shifty enough to find a seam, and he is one hell of a load to bring down. I would like to see more two back sets with Tolbert and Brockel. This rhino package could have real possibilities. I'm not sure what to make of Jonathan Stewart. He just doesn't seem to have the power he did in years past. His ankles may be getting the better of him, as sad as that is to say. 4. Thomas Davis is the undisputed heart of this defense. This season he reminds me a lot of Derrick Brooks, always in the mix. If Davis does not make the pro bowl, it will be a real shame. 5. AJ Klein is good. I mean real good. If Klein was playing on a lesser defense, he would be the talk of the team. In Carolina, he is just another solid linebacker. His Glennon sack was a thing of beauty. I barely had time to snap the picture. 6. Cam and Ginn continue to develop a real chemistry and friendship. Before every game Cam makes a point to "airplane" around Ginn. It makes me wonder if we may see another "x-clown" legendary type play in the playoffs between these two. 7. The Panthers keep the opposing coached beyond frustrated. Schiano was complaining the entire game to anyone that would listen. The officials didn't seem to concerned with his opinions. 8. The Panthers secondary has been much maligned, and have been beaten badly from time to time. However, they do seem to make a play when the Panthers need them to. 9. There was lots of holding done by the Bucs offensive line in this game. I know there is holding in every game that goes uncalled, but it seemed to me to be more than the norm. The officials need the game to be played and the quarterback to be protected, they may be soft on the holding penalties from here on out. Next week we have the Saints which will decide, for now, who is the division leader. I will be making the trip and providing you all with more images and thoughts. Go Panthers. 4. Yes, the score of the game is no indicator. Good lord.
  5. Scoreboard. Holding the Pats and Tom Brady to 20 points on MNF is a good defensive effort. You are trying to hard to be pessimistic.
  6. I'm not suggesting it. I am telling you that was their ranking on NFL.com pre-Pats.
  7. One needs to be that way in Miami with all of the serial killers on the lose.
  8. Then you haven't watched much football this year. The Patriots had just put up 55 in Pittsburgh against the #4 defense in the league.
  9. Dolphins fans are typically a loyal and passionate bunch. They have seen highs and lows, but remain dedicated to their team. Its difficult not to like them. I browsed ThePhins.com for a glimpse of how they see Sunday's matchup... People love Luke, and why wouldn't they? Correct. Could be. Arizona comes to mind. I doubt it. I think it will be within 6 points. Yes, yes they are. If you think holding Tom Brady to 20 points on MNF is underwhelming... well.... Click here to view the article
  10. Theres the Ginn play we needed. Touchdown incoming.
  11. Smitty is back in his home state... Wondering if he stayed up late with friends.....
  12. Frank Gore is lightyears ahead of any RB we have
  13. Feel bad for the defense. They are going to be worn out in the third quarter and the know nothings here willl start ripping them for allowing points.
  14. We need a long TD drive here and the ball back after the half.
  15. Panthers are beating themselves. 2 huge missed opportunities so far.
  16. Announcers seem unbiased in their intro. Weird.
  17. No, I don't think so. Seattle is the better team, JStew is back and Josh Norman won't be playing.
  18. In what could be on of the toughest games of the season so far the Panthers have a chance to prove they are a contender. A win today would solidify at least a wild card playoff birth. A loss, while not season ending, would put in to question the Panthers ability to overcome challenges that winning franchises present. 19. I can safely say being on the sidelines in Tampa Bay this season was infinitely better than last season. When I arrived Cam was warming up under the watchful eye of Mike Shula. Shula still makes a point to keep tabs on Newton and doesn't seem to have given up the QB coach role completely. This was a homecoming for sorts for Shula, an important game for him. Thomas Davis jogged onto the field and looked as serious as, well, he is every game. Davis is all business all day every day. There were a few ladies waiting for the game to begin. Turns out they would be the only think in red and pewter worth taking pictures of all night long... Brandon Lafell seemed focused during introductions. I guess it worked, it wasn't long before he had a reception. Steve Smith soon followed, introducing a defender with his knee in the process. Oh hey a cheerleader... Anyways, the Panthers pressured Glennon often and were the difference in the game. Another Cheerleader... Cam Newton had a great night. Any time your QB gets 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown, you probably won the game. First Downs Panthers! One lucky Auburn fan had a once in a lifetime moment. Schiano looked fairly calm for most of the game, and often times like he was oblivious to the fiery seat he is sitting on. Deangelo Williams and Mike Tolbert both had at least 5 yards per carry, and each had a touchdown. A very productive night for the Panthers running back duo. I know Cam was excited about it... When Tolbert caught his touchdown, he immediately ran for the "Touchdown Mike" banner on the wall of the endzone. Pretty hilarious. I guess he has a new nickname. Overall, it was a great night to be a Panthers fan. For the first night in years we have a team with a winning record to cheer for. Bring on the Falcons. Click here to view the article
  20. Many fans are ready to start celebrating the Panthers having their first winning record since Jake Delhomme was the starting quarterback. Veteran Panthers fans know better. The Panthers are on the road against a division rival in prime time during a short week. Everyone on that field is a paid professional football player and the creme of the NCAA crop. The Panthers could lose this game. Here are the key points on defense to make sure that does not happen. - Force rookie mistakes. So far this season Bucs rookie QB Mike Glennon has actually looked pretty decent. Against the Falcons last Sunday, he had a 90.7 passer rating and completed 59% of his passes. Not bad for a rookie forced into a starting position. Glennon's passer rating has improved every week. Clearly he is learning. The Panthers defense will attempt to confuse Glennon with disguised coverages and blitzes. These tricks probably would not work against Drew Brees, but against Glennon could yield great results. I never thought Brad Johnson would lose the title of Bucs QB with the longest neck. - Don't relax on run stuffing. Tampa Bay RB Doug Martin is most likely out for this game, even though they are playing coy about confirming it (not a bad strategy in a short week and fewer injury reports). Still, the Panthers should not overlook the Bucs rushing attack. We have seen long and sustained drives given up by the Panthers defense when they lose focus. It is up to Sean McDermott to keep his unit hungry and unwilling to allow a single yard on the ground. Backup RB Mike James has looked average at best, the Panthers should be able to shut him down. The game Thursday night has all the makings of a trap game. Although I do feel the Panthers will win this game, I am not convinced it will be the blow out many are predicting.
