Josey Jewell CARLinebacker#47 Panthers agreed to terms with LB Josey Jewell, formerly of the Broncos, to a three-year, $22.75 million contract. Jewell joins a Panthers defense that’s in need of some help. After losing linebacker Frankie Luvu and safety Jeremy Chinn to the Commanders and trading Brian Burns to the Giants, the Panthers bring in Jewell to serve as the presumed starter at middle linebacker. Jewell totaled 108 tackles and two TFLs last season with the Broncos and earned a PFF grade of 67.2 while also fairing reasonably well in pass coverage. Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero still needs some help on the defensive side of the ball, but Jewell is a solid vet for a team that’s lost three key starters in less than 24 hours.

Damien Lewis CARGuard#68 Panthers agreed to terms with OG Damien Lewis, formerly of the Seahawks, on a four-year, $53 million contract. Lewis joins ex-Dolphin Robert Hunt as the Panthers’ second big interior line addition of the day as they try to improve Bryce Young’s blocking. A 2020 third-round pick, Lewis was a starter for the entirety of his rookie deal in Seattle, but he was hot and cold with his effectiveness. He was reasonably durable, though he missed six games over the past three years. The Panthers are doing the right thing as they try to right the wrongs of Young’s awful rookie supporting cast.
