  1. Panthers put out word they’re willing to trade Christian McCaffrey Both articles cited sources as saying it’s not that the Panthers want to trade McCaffrey, it’s just that they’ll listen if other teams offer them something for McCaffrey. This is what teams always say when they put out word that they’re looking to trade a player: They don’t want other teams to give them lowball trade offers, so they claim they’ll only make a trade if they get an offer to their liking. But make no mistake, when articles like these come out, it’s because the team is hoping the right offer will come along. What it would take for the Panthers to trade McCaffrey is unclear, but the Panthers are hoping some team will offer up the right deal before the November 1 trade deadline. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/10/15/panthers-put-out-word-theyre-willing-to-trade-christian-mccaffrey/
  2. CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREYRB, CAROLINA PANTHERS ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Carolina Panthers are listening to trade talks for RB Christian McCaffrey and WR Robbie Anderson. It has been reported throughout the year that teams have aggressively pursued one of the top running backs in the league, only for the Panthers to repeatedly turn them away. It now appears Carolina is at least willing to listen, but McCaffrey's team-friendly contract could prove difficult to move on from. In what might seem like lesser news compared to the marquee running back, the Panthers have said they are willing to listen to trade offers for wide receiver Robbie Anderson, one of the league's premier deep threats over his seven-year NFL career. Teams have just over two weeks remaining to strike a deal before the league's trade deadline of November 1.

  4. Best possible scenario is that we play well and get blown out and lose.
  5. There has been considerable league buzz about another young coordinator who wasn’t remotely on any head coaching radars at the start of the season — and who doesn’t have a PR campaign or a mega agency pushing him to media or owners. Ben Johnson wasn’t viewed as a hotshot fast-riser when he was named the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator in February, but arguably no coach has raised his profile more in the first third of the season. Tepper chasing someone like Johnson hardly seems out of the question. “The more I study him, the more I like,” said one longtime NFL executive who has been involved in multiple successful coaching hires but who cannot speak publicly about potential candidates. “Pay attention to how his players talk about him. Look at the film and what he’s doing — not just with [quarterback Jared] Goff but that entire offense. It’s pretty special.”
  6. Multiple general managers suggested to me that, should Wilks not win the job, Carolina General Manager Scott Fitterer would strongly endorse Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Fitterer and Quinn worked together at the height of the Seahawks’ reign and share a strong relationship, and Quinn, the former head coach in Atlanta, has helped create a dominant unit in Dallas. However, those same GMs believe Quinn will have better options than Carolina.
  7. Another NFL executive likened the power and influence of Drummond within the Panthers to that of beleaguered Texans executive Jack Easterby, who also doesn’t have a personnel or football operations background per se but holds considerable sway with ownership and is consulted on and included in all key matters. “It’s the same dynamic as Easterby; it just doesn’t get as much attention,” that executive said. Perhaps Wilks can string together some wins and make enough of an imprint to keep the job. “He is in a position to be in consideration for the position,” Tepper said of Wilks on Monday, saying he could get the position if he does “an incredible job.”
