Catcrave 4 QBs if panthers drop out of top 10
Captroop replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
We could do both. I think most of these guys will be there at the top of the second. I actually like the idea of BPA in round one. And if Levis is off the board, there will be no temptation to overreach to force a QB pick. -
I fuccing hate online sports books. Between this "brilliant" marketing gimmick, and full press marketing blitz DraftKings has dumped on us in Maryland, they aren't engendering a lot of good will for their predatory, exploitative business.

Sure looks fake. Seems like the only coverage of it seems to be linked to the video. I feel like if this were a credible story, we'd have heard about it happening from legitimate news sources before the video made its way online. Lightning strikes are incredibly loud and incredibly bright. At night a lightning strike that close would absolutely white out a camera with a night filter on. It wouldn't just be a little blue flash in the corner of the screen. And would have clipped the audio rather than a perfectly piped in "thunder" sound effect. I'm calling BS and poor taste.

QB Will Levis declaring for the NFL draft
Captroop replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ooh! You're telling me we could land this year's Zach Wilson? -
Not familiar, but I like his game tape. He doesn't have a lot of talent around him so he has to make every completion happen. The main thing I notice is he does well on the "Wide Open" test. Watch, or rather listen to the highlight reel for a QB and see how many times the announcer exclaims, "Wide Open!" I think I heard one Wide Open on McKee's highlight reel. He's throwing his receivers open; putting the ball where his receiver has a chance to go up and beat his defender, rather than just hitting a talented WR who's got 5 yards separation from the nearest defender. Conversely, watch Trey Lance's highlights. Take a shot every time you hear "Wide Open" ... if you have a death wish. I think McKee's not flashy, and doesn't have stunning game tape, but considering what he's got surrounding him, I'd gamble a second round pick that his tool set translates to the pro game.

All the fans that want to tank, you guys are all in on Stroud?
Captroop replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a terrible argument. You're talking about two brothers who were drafted 2 decades ago, and a guy who only won a Super Bowl as a *GASP* re-tread QB for another team. If you're making an argument in favor of #1 QBs, I think Stafford is the worst example you can cite. A decade of doing nothing for the team that drafted him, and winning the Super Bowl for someone else. That's pretty much exactly what I don't want to happen. And technically, Eli never won a super bowl for the team that drafted him at #1 either (Chargers). If you're holding up Eli Manning, you're really making a case for trading multiple first round picks for a franchise QB. Just a terrible, terrible argument you've made. -
Aaron Rodgers was the 24th pick. Land where you land, and pick the best player available. And honestly, even picking #1 in the draft this year is FAR from a guarantee that we'd end up with a franchise QB.

For some. If you lost an inch, you wouldn't think so.

I'm up for imagining whatever reality has us not reaching for this year's Zach Wilson because we simply have to draft a QB in the first round. Right now that's rooting for playoffs and grabbing whichever QB falls. Because I don't think we're getting top 2, and frankly I'm not even enamored with the second QB on the big board. God knows I don't want to reach on Levis at the #3 spot.

Article: "Teams should not wear black jerseys"
Captroop replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
Whatever it was, we need to bottle up that energy and sprinkle it on Sir Purr, because it sure as hell worked in JAX. -

We're simultaneously in contention for a top 3 draft pick, and winning our division, and it's not every year you get to say that. So now is not the time for a fashion thread. Save that for March when we need something to talk about. -
I don't think he's had the coaching or line to help him develop that to this point in his career. It's hard to read a defense when your internal clock until you get hammered is, "One, T-"

McAdoo was the best OC the Rhule regime could recruit. And if that's not the most damning indictment of the waning days of the Rhule tenure, I don't know what is. He'll be gone next year, and we'll be able to attract someone much more competent now that Rhule is gone and Tepper has been humbled.

I don't think it will matter. We're going to see the same consistently bad level of QB play for the remainder of the season (unless Darnold balls out behind this re-vamped line. I've seen enough of Mayfield now to know he's not only not the future here, I think he's done in the league. His throws look like Broncos era Manning. He never recovered from the shoulder injury, and I doubt he will. I'll admit, I was hoping for him to be successful here. I was hoping for him to be the future here. But he's not the same QB he was, and he's not starter quality, sad to say. I'll continue to watch, however, because the Defense is genuinely exciting to see. Between that and the run game, we're looking like a team that's ready to make a jump to the next level. Any coaching prospect should look at this team and be excited for the possibilities. But we need a QB, and a WR corps beyond DJ.

It's pretty apparent Baker never recovered from his shoulder injury. In his first few years I remember him slinging it so fast the screen refresh rate on my TV couldn't even capture the ball. His passes today look like dying quails. I don't think he's a bad QB, but he doesn't have the tools to be an NFL QB anymore.
-
Imagine his conversation with the baffled person in the media relations office explaining what an influencer is and why he should get a press pass to the game.

My brother in Christ, if you're spending your Sundays in November worrying about a thursday in April I think you need to hear this today: Let the draft chips fall where they may. Because the one thing that's even less certain than what the draft order will look like next year is which QB at the top of the board will actually emerge as a franchise QB.

Happy for Joey. But it was the right decision to cut him when we did. He looked BAD last preseason. And frankly, the change of scenery was probably the best thing for him. His confidence was in the tank here. Kicking is such a psychologically demanding position. Probably more than most in the game (see Pinero in the first Falcons game; the second miss was a direct result of the first). And when you're in a rut, it's almost impossible to get out of. But I hope he flourishes in Washington and gets that cannon of a leg under control.
-
Well, for argument sake, in the tossup between Baker and Sam, Baker definitely knows the Ravens better. If you're trying to give the illusion of not tanking, it's the sensible coaching decision.
-
That's really sad for DJax. Hope he recovers well and soon. Say what you will about him, but the D suffers when he's not on the field.

How bad does PJ need to play to be removed as starter?
Captroop replied to AlphabetsEnd's topic in Carolina Panthers
He did enough to win. He's probably the best fit for our offense at the moment; run-first, play action, read option. And in a monsoon game, it's not surprising he didn't put up gaudy passing numbers. The only reason Baker's stats were good last week is by the time he was in the game, the Bengals starters had already decided to leave early to beat traffic. -
Official hey the Panthers are wearing black helmets GameDay Thread!
Captroop replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly, considering the effervescent "meh" that comprises the top of the QB draft class this year, I'm fine hoping we hit on a Mahomes in the "Best of the Rest" range at 9 to 15 rather than reach in the top 3.
