The big problem with getting Timo for Carolina was him not wanting to negotiate an extension. I get we haven't done anything (yet), but damn look what Jersey gave up with no extension in place from what I've heard and also the fact that Timo likes the West Coast more than the east. Also, Timo doesn't want to extend because he's playoff bound now - put up even more #s and get more $$s. Schmaltz is still in play and maybe Gostisbehere is asked for too as a package deal?

Nailed the initial offer, then from what someone told me SJ asked for way too much!

Don Waddell is a cheap ass watch
Rocky Davis replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Damn son, that is funny asf. Waddles needs to think long and hard about where we are at. I'll shoot him a text. -
I guess the Canes didn't value Nino enough for ~$5ish million dollars through the end of next year and a 2nd round pick. Surprising, know they had talked to the Preds. I don't think there's any interest in Duchenne, salary retained or not. I am not convinced we are out on Timo, but Waddles needs to understand that to get you have to give. Yes, you are in a "bidding" war with NJ, you think the whole salary cap thing puts you in a position of strength, you don't want to pay too much BUT you have to play ball. Give them the 1st (2023), 2nd (2024), Drury and Morrow. If it takes giving them the 2023 2nd do it. If the Timo thing doesn't fall our way Adam Henrique and Schmaltz are in play. I know underwhelming.

Todd McShay seems to really like Anthony Richardson
Rocky Davis replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Carolina Panthers
Reich and the staff in place will know what AR is capable of. He can have all the athletic ability in the world, but unless he can read defenses and understand the game at NFL speed he's a hard pass for me. I think that's why Young and Levis to me are the "safest" choices, with Young having more talent and upside than Levis. Stroud makes me nervous coming out of Ohio State's offense, but I believe he can be coached and has the ability to become a solid NFL QB. AR scares me. We got this coaching staff in place for a reason so I'll just trust they will do what is best. -
Yeah I know they can waive at least one player and get $2M back, but they will have to get a third (maybe a fourth) team involved so they are only paying 25%. How do they get a deal done that "favors" them?? They need help and that costs prospects and picks.

I think the Rangers may be messing around with their chemistry by getting Kane. He feels "spurned" by them, but it's the one team he really wanted to go to along with Toronto from what I read. How do the Rangers acquire him when they are up against the cap with a deal that favors them? It's odd, they have to get help from another team so it's going to cost them something. At any rate I didn't want Kane here simply because he doesn't want to be here. So he can take his prima donna ass right to New York. If the Canes feel like they are Cup contenders then they have to respond to everything going on in the East. The Bruins gave up a lot to Washington in that Smith trade to get Orlov and Hathaway, with the Wild helping out taking on 50% of Orlov's salary for a 5th round pick. It comes down to the Canes and the Devils for Timo in my opinion. Carolina is in better position financially to make it happen, although we will have to give up a 1st and two solid prospects (Drury and Morrow?) or possibly a 1st, 2nd, and a prospect. NJ is not budging on giving up Mercer so I just don't know what they have to offer that can beat a package we can put together, but anything is possible. It's getting interesting!

Always hated him - he is full of himself and is full of hot air. Miss David Glenn.

Schmaltz would be a nice pick up if we don't land Timo. Again, I think GMDW has a shopping list and if he doesn't land his #1 he has some backup plans. I also wouldn't be surprised if a 3rd pair D-man is acquired for a small price. We have a very good team, we just need to stay healthy and we need Freddy to play well. Raanta always scares me, but hopefully he'll play as well as he did in the playoffs down the stretch.
-
I think Waddles is trying to land Timo, but he isn't going to give up the farm to do it. I also believe he'll want an extension in place before he sends the goods over to SJ. If they miss on Timo, I am expecting Donny to kick the tires on Barbashev as a rental for a 3rd rounder and mid-level prospect (maybe more if they arrange an extension). I still believe he's talking to the Preds about Nino. Maybe Boeser, he's got term although I think Vancouver would have to retain some salary if they want anything of real value for him. Boeser needs a change of scenery and could be very solid on the Canes, he is having his worst season of his career this year. An under the radar move that would make our bottom 6 a little faster would be Sam Lafferty, he's fast and has shown he can score a little. He also comes with term and shouldn't cost much. Doesn't move the needle and I really don't know who he would bump out of the lineup....probably a stupid thought here.

Carolina trades lots of SOG, 2nd Rounder, and a prospect to the Blues for Ivan Barbashev.
-
I actually believe he would play for a little lower than that, possibly $4.5 for two years. It is said he really likes Raleigh and NC in general, and he really likes Rod and the team.
-
Don't sleep on this possibility: Nino back to the Canes!! Oh, and the one thing the Canes have going for them with regards to Meier is we don't have to ask SJ to retain salary so we wouldn't have to give up "as much." NJ would have to ask SJ to retain some salary or find a third team to help them land Timo. Either way, NJ would have to pay more than we would.

The Athletic names the top coaching hires for this cycle
Rocky Davis replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Brady was handcuffed by Rhule like most of the organization. When he was the sacrificial lamb and fired the offense got tons worse. It stayed bad even with McAdoo being handcuffed by Rhule. It did get better once Rhule was shown the door. Didn't love McAdoo as our "rockstar" OC hire, but it was obvious Rhule had way too much say in everything around here. Brady will get another chance and put in a better situation he will do fine. Heck, if he was on Reich's staff he would do really well. -
Svech is just..... so Svech! He is so young, as are a majority of our best players. They should only get better!!
-
I believe the Sharks will want a 1st, 2nd, and one of Jarvis or KK. I say we should counter with a 1st, 2nd, and one of our D prospects (would like to see LaJoie get a chance). The draft picks are in different years. If they absolutely will not move off wanting Jarvis or KK, I would offer a 1st, Jarvis (very reluctantly), and a 3rd since they are getting Jarvis. It's a war for Meier and it's going to take us giving up something we probably don't want to.
-
No to Kane, he is hurt and the Rags even went a different way than Kane. I agree that Meier for better or worse (in terms of what we would have to give up) is the best things we could do. Still think Toews could be a good move, just not sure of his cost and would rather go all in on Meier after that debacle last night. Really, Rod needs to go the f*@k off on the boys for that crap last night. I hope he did. This team is way too talented to lose like that.

Not saying that this was the staff to do it under, but did Corral work hard studying film, defenses, his own past tape so that he could improve while not being able to physically work out? Hell, he should have been in the film room with Kuechly picking his brain about how he could read what an offense was going to do before they did it. Then use that type of knowledge to study current NFL defenses. That thing between the ears can't always make up for a lack of natural talent, but definitely can raise your level a notch or two.
-
I think the Canes are zeroing in on Toews. He can play 2C and be more of a scoring threat than KK. He also plays a very good 2 way game. I also read where the Canes were talking to the Canucks about Horvat, but wanted to talk extension before making any kind of offer. After seeing what the Canucks got from NJ and his extension I am glad we didn't go there.

I don't see Detroit letting Larkin go, and I don't think Larkin wants to leave Motown. Either way it would take a lot to get Larkin unless he cratered his trade value by saying he wouldn't be signing with the Red Wings due to negotiations going south. He isn't that kind of guy. Personally, I don't think you "give up the farm" for him. I think the Canes may be the most serious about acquiring Toews. He is a Rod type of center, plays a good two way game and needs to be on a team competing for something. He isn't having a great year in Chicago, but who is? I think the cost would be relatively "cheap," but probably hinges on the Blackhawks retaining some salary. How much they retain will set the price for him. I don't think Kane really wants to play here, but I could be wrong.

How does anyone see Stroud falling to 9? Have I missed some sort of news on him?
-
No way you can prevent a coach from being able to interview for a "better" position, and even if you could you would never even bring it up when you are trying to land the best DC available in Evero. This is a GREAT get for the Panthers! Hope springs eternal!

Is this John Elway and Josh Allen's nephew? I really don't want the Panthers using all their draft capital to move up because it would take almost everything we have. Those are the consequences of being a middling to below average NFL team. I believe AR will be there at 9 and as many questions as I have about him, his ceiling may be higher than any of the others in the draft. If the FO does its due diligence and Reich and unnamed OC and QB coach are onboard with thinking he can develop into an NFL QB then let's go.
