  1. Dang I don't remember that! I am getting old...or already am!
  2. Yep, nailed Ottawa's dilemma. They don't want to pay DeBrincat that QO of $9M or anything close to that and neither do the other 31 NHL teams. I mean maybe Arizona or Chicago can swing it, but it almost seems like Ottawa would also need to sweeten the deal just to get him off their books. Not an enviable position at all!
  3. We need to get one to have at the games like Georgia has their bulldog. Always keep it in the opposing teams end zone area, maybe let it escape a time or two.
  4. Yes, and I believe the Canes have given Tarasenko their final offer and he's choosing between the Canes and Ottawa. Ottawa's offer might be the one that is in flux.
  5. Orlov was signed to play on the 2nd D pairing. I have little doubt about that. I don't think the Canes are going to meet Pesce's ask with regards to term. I am a big Pesce fan and he deserves his payday and long term guarantee that he desires. Everyone is different in their thoughts when it comes to these things, I suppose Pesce at his age wants that term. It's not a Raanta or Andersen position where they are on the back end of their careers. The Canes are known to be prudent with their contractual decisions so both sides just need to respect each other's views. It will be tough to see Pesce in another sweater, but I think that's what will eventually happen and most likely in the Western Conference.
  6. Happy 4th all! I enjoy our Canes community we have here, glad to have a place to shoot the breeze!
  7. Adam Gold is not a source of any kind of rumor about sports whatsoever. He's a talking head that in my opinion has pretty bad takes about a majority of things. The bottom line from sources I trust is that it's either Ottawa or the Canes.
  8. With regards to Tarasenko, Ottawa definitely has more money and term on the table. As the tweet shared above said it's probably a decision about wanting to go to a contender or the $$$. I also think he might also want to bet on himself with the Canes with less $ on a 1 year deal and have a "bounce back" year for next year when the cap rises and he can turn that into more $$ with term. Just a thought. If we are still in on Karlsson, Pesce will have to be moved along with some prospects and a 3rd team (Chicago) will have to be involved to retain salary. I still don't think it's the right move, but losing Pesce for nothing isn't palatable either. I don't think Turbo is being traded, as someone said his value is low right now but when he's playing well he is worth more to us than some picks. He just needs to stay healthy (I know, I know). He sees the ice so well and has a hell of a shot which he needs to use more.
  9. Yeah, that will get updated and he won't count against the NHL cap. Much like the other AHLers we have signed.
  10. I don't think Mendel counts against the cap because he's on a two way. I think he's just an AHL body and secondary insurance.
  11. DeBrincat is a RFA and his QO is $9M. He is going to want a long term, large contract. I can't see us even trading for him. I mean there are reports that Ottawa would do a sign and trade, but Ottawa isn't going to want to retain any salary. I suppose it's possible that a team like Arizona could get involved to retain some salary, but I just don't see it. One of the Kings options might work out well. We would need to trade Skjei or Pesce to do it. That may be the best play for the Canes and another team, a straight 1:1 hockey deal. I am not on the Karlsson bandwagon. He is older, injury prone, and has had 1 good season out of the last 4 or so. No thanks. If we are keeping everyone that we currently have I don't even see a need for TDA, although he would allow Coghlan to be sent to the AHL or wherever to play. TDA would almost have to be our #7, but still he's expensive there even at $2.5M for the Canes.
  12. Have read where we are interested in Bertuzzi. A couple of mentions around Tarasenko who didn't have a great season last year, but was very good the year before. He's either done or will rebound...probably too expensive for us to find out. Hard to figure out how we can afford Karlsson unless a lot of salary is retained. We still need a scoring forward and it almost has to come via trade now.
  13. Let's see if he can stay healthy. He may be ready at the start of the season.
  14. Only 2 years though.... That's why I think it happened.
  15. Pesce just won't budge on term? Traded for forward help? We have a couple of promising young D-men that will be available in 2 years. One of which is highly rated.
  16. Guess he thought the Rags were a better choice. Will he play on the 2nd line in NY?? Probably dodged a bullet with him though.
  17. We must have offended Freddie with our offer.....
  18. Watch out for Wheeler to the Hurricanes....
  19. I would be shocked if Duchene is even being considered in Carolina. Wheeler is intriguing but I wonder if we would meet his asking price and if he would be fine with a 2 year deal? I read were it was being said Pesce is fine playing out his last year on his current contract, but he has to understand that the Canes don't really play like that. I firmly believe if they just can't figure out a contract he will be moved. We aren't typically a team that lets an asset walk for nothing when they have a high value (especially this offseason) and it's apparent there is no compromise. I think Fasty loves Carolina and his teammates and I am thrilled he's back! He showed a lot of loyalty leaving money on the table, but of course he's always seemed really smart and sometimes it's best to play where you are comfortable and know the situation.
  20. It's gotta be a $$ thing with Patches. He is probably trying to max out his salary on a 1 year prove it deal. Betting on himself big time, and a team that signs him for a good amount of $$ will be playing with fire. That Achilles has been injured twice and are notorious for never being the same after. I like Patches and wish him good health and the best.
  21. The Canes have to find the balance though - it can be done although it has been much harder since the salary cap has been flat for the past 3-4 years. Sometimes you have to give up some assets, whether it be a prospect or picks to get a player that can get you over the top. As for goalies, Freddie looked great in the playoffs last year and should be the goalie we sign between him and Raanta. Love Raanta, and I think there's a chance he's back but it will depend on the $. Pyotr is not ready IMO, another year in the AHL will be good with maybe some NHL action when needed. The plan may well be that it Andersen as the #1 and Koochie as the backup though. I don't like the goalie UFA/RF market at all.
  22. 2 years in college at least. Then maybe an ELC with a start down in the AHL unless he lights it up at Maine and training camp.
  23. Yeah for an organization who used to be Russian player averse, we have now done a 180 and "all your Russian are belong to us."
  24. TD played well when he was here - a heck of a lot better than he did in Philly and rarely did anything "dirt baggish." He did stand up for his teammates and I think the team was tougher because of him. Really I thought he had a great season with us, defensive flaws and all. I think he disappeared against the Rangers for some reason and that's the only time I really was let down during his time with us.
  25. He isn't back yet...... Something is going on with Philly and the Blues. That being said Philly wants to dump him, so it still may happen.
