report: panthers called about darnold
DeAngelo Beason replied to PhillyB's topic in Carolina Panthers
For the right price (not a first round pick) I'd give it a go. You never know. That being said, as I've been clear about, I'd rather see us cut off the gangrenous limb that is mediocre QB play, and just lock up an elite player at the position finally, no matter the cost. -
Here's what happens when you have an "ok" QB.... You get a guy who gets you just enough wins each year to ensure you NEVER get to draft an elite signal caller. THAT is EXAAAAACTLY why the Panthers have been middling for 25 years. How many super bowls would the Panthers have won during the Delhomme era if you'd replaced Delhomme with Peyton Manning? I'm thinking 2 - 3 at least. The trade off for going up and grabbing him would have been the unstoppable Jason Peters, and maybe Rashard Anderson (if you extrapolate out trading a few first rounders to go up and get him)... First rounders are great, but I think this board greatly overvalues them. They're still rookies, and there is still a TON of uncertainty surrounding them, as we've seen from Shaq and Vernon Butler.

History hasn't been kind to teams that have traded up to grab a QB. I am completely willing to acknowledge this fact. I'm also willing to state that only Lawrence and Wilson are worth trading up for. All that being said, we are doomed to mediocrity if we kick the tires on a mediocre free agent or later round selection, unless we just get lucky and land a diamond in the rough.

Have you seen the QBS coming up in 2022? We don't have a choice BUT to mortgage the future. This team is going to be middling indefinitely if we don't get a quality signal caller.

Why would you leave the 2nd most dysfunctional franchise in the league to go to the most dysfunctional franchise in the league?

We have money. I think this whole forum drastically underestimates the ability of teams to get creative with the cap if they want to "win now"... just a matter of how creative the Panthers decide to get.

Latest NFL.com mock has us trading up to #2 for Zach Wilson
DeAngelo Beason replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
100% not the point. He's still playing against significantly better competition than Lance. It's not even a discussion. -
Steve Smith HoF is he in or out?
DeAngelo Beason replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Damn. Smitty was just so good. -
For all you new-school fans: Do I have to say it?
DeAngelo Beason replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
No. In the new school NFL, a handful of perfectly timed bad calls wins championships. These refs know exactly what they're doing. They know exactly how to take the wind out of the sails that they want to take the wind out of. -
Totally missed this on ESPN’s IG
DeAngelo Beason replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
We would find a way to afford it. Dak can ball. That's all there is to it. If he can pass a physical, make it happen. -

It's easy to look talented when you're playing against high schoolers. -

As always, depends on what we give up. Trey Lance scares the absolute crap out of me. I really don't want us to settle for him. -
Very few people ACTUALLY have more luck than talent. Russell Wilson is one of those people. Hard pass.

I wouldn't be upset with Wentz for something like a 2nd rounder. I still think he has huge upside.

congrats to all the tampa bay fans and the tampa bay bucs
DeAngelo Beason replied to Mister's topic in Carolina Panthers
Helps to have refs with an arsenal of flags to give the opposing team for bullsh*t. Another piss poor officiating performance goes in favor of Brady to create the storyline the NFL wants. -
The SB showed us about having a solid O-line
DeAngelo Beason replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
....we still need a franchise QB more than anything. -
They rarely had to blitz to force huge amounts of pressure. That's what happens when you're missing 4 OL...

Turner/Boston admit that the refs screwed us in SB50
DeAngelo Beason replied to Mol3m4n's topic in Carolina Panthers
As soon as they started to talk about Mahomes' toe and how he "wasn't going to be 100%", I knew they were laying the groundwork for a fix. -
Mixon is just severely lacking in talent, period. He's probably a really nice guy and people have pity on him. I've kept guys around like that.

Dark horse QB option: Derek Carr?
DeAngelo Beason replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nah. He's got talent but I wouldn't trade anything significant for him. -
