And there's the rub... even getting hit with that dead cap money still on the table... they let him go. I'm not saying there's a hidden injury or just the slow downs that come with age, but New Orleans has been masterful at gaming the cap system for years. There may be a reason they didn't do some of their cap voodoo in this case.
Or he could be physically fine, just financially expensive.
Me, I just think the money could be better spent elsewhere.
The $13 million is on the books even if they decided to resign him. You can't restructure dead money. I think its as simple as they wouldn't want $33 million tied to one single player. He does have an injury history though so buyer beware.

Released or not, he's either too rich for their blood right now or there's a knock on him that we don't know about. Both are possibilities, both are things we don't need during a rebuild.
He is a FA but due to the Saints restructuring him last year to make cap room they have a $13 million dollar dead cap hit even if he leaves.

If you wanna QB like Matt Ryan or Derek Carr, by all means, you have a right to have low standards and be boring, but if you want a good QB to compete with good teams you'll pass on this draft class
Didn't Matt Ryan win an MVP? If Pickett is a more athletic Matt Ryan he is definitely worth it at 6.

Because for well over a decade, every year it's always the Saints are going to be in cap hell and there is no way they can make any moves, and yet they do it every year. You don't have to like the man or the organization to realize he's damn good at his job.
They are not doing anything magical. Just pushing the money to future years. Eventually you run out of contracts to restructure and the salary cap hell comes. If you do that you have to draft really well to offset with cheap rookie contracts. Saints would be giving up a boatload of draft picks in a Watson deal.

So a player who should've been droy, at a position we've had crap at for nearly 20 years, with draft picks we don't have.
I'd rather give up Chinn then Horn. Safeties are much easier to find.

Burns was a 1st. And you can't replace your passrush through the draft when you don't have picks
I meant to say Chinn.

Eh, I get it if you think the picks and the totality of it are too much, but if you're already that deep into it, no way you can let Burns, Chinn, or both be a deal-breaker for a franchise QB.
Exactly, Burns was a 2nd round pick. You can find a player like him in the draft. Burns will need to be paid big money in a couple years. You can't let that stop you from getting a franchise QB.

my only hope is that Rhules incompetence as a head coach and general bone-headedness turns off Watson
Would you rather have him go to the Saints and beat us up for the next 10 years.

Roger Saffold cut by the Titans. Go get him especially since he won't count against the comp formula.

So were you impressed or unimpressed with 12-for-27 against Northwestern that same year?
Or look at his tape against Indiana in 2020. He looked like a deer in headlights and made some Darnoldesque throws in that game.

If he signs a massive deal with another team we'll get a 3rd round Comp. pick?
Not that we'll use it towards a good player but it's the thought that counts right?
Only if we sign less free agents than we let get away.

Matt Rhules MO. High RAS scores

Corral interests me the most at this point. I've said it before, he could be a more-gutsy version of what people thought Mariotta was (Who I see starting again next year on a QB starved market)
Pickett has some great qualities but I am legit concerned about hand size. He's beyond the fringe zone where you can make up for it elsewhere and it's just straight up a physical limitation. It's not comparable to Burrow, he's got the 2nd smallest in recorded history for QBs. That's why I find it weird analysts are shrugging it off; we're talking all time undersized for something many coaches have deemed important throughout modern NFL history.
If Rhule takes Pickett and his zero percentile hand size while passing on a legitimate LT like Slater due to arm length I don't know what to say. QB hand size is more important than arm length for a T. I thought he was supposed to be all about analytics.

This has smokescreen written all over it. Probably trying to get a team to trade up so a tackle will be there.

I would suggest listening to the draft dudes podcast where they talk to Kenny's QB coach. Some good stuff about Kenny.

If KT (Oregon DE) is available at 6. Take him and trade Burns for a 1st. Need a bigger guy at DE that can stop the run.

Dumb question: Would Suleiman leaving to become GM net us compensatory draft picks ? Is he considered a minority under the current rules?
-
If you're going to resign Cam might as well draft Willis who has similar traits not Kenny Pickett who is Teddy Bridgewater 2.0.
-
Malik Willis or a T at 6. No other QB is worth it.

I doubt Rhule can afford to simply sit him
That is why you sign Cam for a year and let Willis sit and learn behind him.

Draft Malik and resign Cam to a 1 year deal. Let him sit behind him for a year. It makes too much sense it won't happen.

This article from a Michigan website claims Rhule is on the AD'S wishlist. Please take him.

I would rather see Darnold at QB next year than waste draft assets on Jimmy G.

Take Willis at 6 and resign Cam to a 1 year deal. Cam starts the whole year and Willis gets to learn behind the best running Qb of all time.
Kenny Pickett > Malik Willis (at least for us)

BYU is a Mormon school. Big difference between Mormon and Christian. Technically Baylor is a Christian school so maybe he should have wwnt and played for Rhule.
