RUMOR: Panthers looking to move up to 16-20th pick
emhoward replied to @bobbyagnese's topic in Carolina Panthers
We already have a lot of young players contributing on our team, I can see Gettlemen not wanting to add 9 more rookies, plus UDFA. Also a lot of folks are saying that there's a big drop off in talent somewhere in the teens, if Gettlemen buys that I could see him moving up. I'd give up our 1st, 3rd, and 5th to move up for Cooper, not sure who else though. -
RUMOR: Panthers looking to move up to 16-20th pick

Man I know Peat has all the measurables, but from what I've heard and the little I've seen, he ends up on the ground way too much for a top 20 pick. -
If it came down to Peat or Perriman....

I may be off on this, but it seems to me, undoubtedly due to busts in times past, that speed, and specifically 40 timed speed, is starting to be underrated. For years and years it was overrated, a lot of that was due to Al Davis and his drafting, was due to drooling over how fast a player could run in his underwear, and other things. In response to this overrating of 40 times, it seems we (fans, scouts, GM's) have started to go the other way. Five years ago If Perriman runs a 4.2 he goes from fringe first rounder to at least being picked somewhere between 15-20. That's silly. This year, he's still a fringe first rounder. Despite all this talk he hasn't moved up. If anything this 4.2 has hurt him. "Well he doesn't look this fast on tape" "who cares that he's fast, he can't catch". This is also silly, not equally silly perhaps, but silly nonetheless. He ran a 4.2. It's not a huge deal, but it's a big one. It's shouldn't put him in the top 20, but it should put him in the first. The reason he's not moved up is because GM's are scared. And I get it. Who wants to draft the next Ted Ginn, Stephen Hill, DHB etc? He's a fast WR with Questionable hands: he could be Stephen Hill, but he could be Torrey Smith, who many on this board were clamoring for. He could be DHB or he could be Mike Wallace, who in times past many on this board was clamoring for. Who knows. I certainly don't, but I did want to take the time to say to Breshard Perriman, congrats, you ran a 4.2, that's still something special in my book, and I get the sense that Al Davis is somewhere with two thumbs up, agreeing with me. -

Gettlemen is a disciple of Ernie Acorsi, who didn't like taking Offensive Lineman in the first, he believed Lineman were the easiet position group to coach up. The belief was you could take an Offensive Lineman with "average talent" and coach him up by working on his technique and other things and get him to the "good" level, but with other positions it's a lot harder. Therefore we'll take one of these others positions in the first (because first round picks are the most developed and complete players) and take an offensive lineman later. All that being said I don't think Gettlemen holds this philosophy as strongly as his mentor. I think he wouldn't hesitate to take Peat if he was there. In fact someone on this board mentioned that last year had Miami not taken Juwan James ahead of us he would have been our pick. And to answer OP; I would choose Perriman, but I think the Panthers would choose Peat. -
Speaking of Captain...he, CJ, and KK were at Cosmos together last Friday... Didn't know me from Adam but were still mad cool.

The only way for me to decide is to figure out who has the biggest weaknesses James-- none, but he's the oldest with only few years left in his prime. Curry-- before last year had a bit of an injury issue with ankles. How will 3pt shooting translate in playoffs. Durant -- killer instinct? Does killer instinct even matter or is it overrated? Westbrook -- selfish? Has the biggest alpha dog mentality but can go too far Harden -- defense, gets to FT line a lot and refs tend to swallow whistle in playoffs... U guys are severely overrating him tho (he's carried the team without Dwight) Davis -- too passive? Can he be a dog? Didn't matter for Duncan... George -- how will he look coming off injury -- can disappear at times. So from here on out I'll go... Davis Westbrook Curry James Durant Harden George

We'll continue to draft BPA. If it happens to be a DE, we'll be just fine.
-
That makes sense, and I've thought about this in the past, "so and so is a D-coordinator so he should be able to work with inferior defensive talent and make them respectable, all the while we're stack up on O which is his weakness." On the flip side you can give a D-coordinator defensive talent, and have the potential to be dominant on that side of the ball and run the ball and control the clock on O. I guess there not one way to do it. As far as the Jets, their downfall was the QB position, but we already have that, we just don't have the O talent around him which I don't think we need if our D is dominant.
-
We've given him Luke, Star, KK, and Ealy. A great D is a quarterback 2nd best friend (behind O-line)
-
I see what you're saying, it's just a difference of philosophy. I prefer the way we're building. The Colts are stacking their O, we're stacking our D. I happen to be biased towards defense.
-
Do I think Cam could use another offensive weapon or two? Sure. But to me, a QB's best weapon is a dominant defense. Stewart and the offensive line, IMO, was the second biggest reason for our turn around. The biggest reason was the return of our top 5 D. Keep the D strong, if you do, you keep the Panthers strong. You keep the panthers strong, Cam will have success... To add, as far as drafting, I don't mean to ignore the offense and only draft on D. I'm a big BPA guy. This is just for those looking for us to spend big money of offensive skill positions in free agency because Cam "needs weapons". That's a no no, IMO.

I'm mad late, but this thread is comedy gold. Like my dude said, that box made him go to sleep..with the lights on too lol -
The reason is it was such a bad call has more to do with the down than the distance. It was second down at the 3ish yd line with Lynch. You don't pass that yo

He's was always overrated to me. Thought most of his succes was due to the fact that Curry commanded so much attention... I was wrong. Baller. -
Sorry for the typos

My bad--- I just want to say I'm waiting on the facts also but.... Girl I'm talking to is friends with Hardy girl an rumor is this isn't the first time this has happened. They he's beat on her before except he never calls the police. This time other people were their when it happened which is why the police were involved. When the police got their the girl said nothing happened but because of the other witnesses it seems they decided to arrest him anyway. I have in no way ever met Hardy or his girl. I want to make that clear. That's all I know and it's all rumors so..

Talking to a girl that had a friend there. She was the one that called the cops. Heard other panther players were their when it happened. Idk.
