Theres things D.J. can do that Julio can't. There's things Julio can do that Num can't There's things Nuk can do that Julio can't. When AB wasn't a complete headcase there were things he could do that neither could. Top 5 is relative to current competition. Not a checklist of things that you have to do to be considered top 5.
-
D.J.s game isn't comparable to Hops where he is a goddamn mauler with elite WR and he is not the physical specimen with the best body control the NFL has seen at the position. But that does not mean D.J. is fringe top 5. D.J.' s biggest areas of weakness are our last two QBs area of strength -- beating the press and finding separation on shorter routes. In intermediate to deep areas of the field D.J. has CONSTANTLY won and gotten open just no one to deliver him the ball.
-
D.J. and it's not close. I'll take one fringe elite WR who won't be 25 when resigned than two solid WRs pushing 30.
-
They also had a bunch of money to splurge in one of their free agencies under McVay and the most draft capital that went into any one player was two firsts and not three firsts + a bunch of other stuff for one Player but hey yeah I like making comparisons without having all the facts.

Don't get this one. The savings are so minimal for a player who produced well.

Reddit is acting like we've signed a death warrant but for the price this is a prettt safe signing ar a position of need. Even if he shits the bed it won't hurr to move kn from him like Pardis or Kalil. Low risk low reward.

Was the Gettleman's 2017 draft class the best in Panthers history?
Rags replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Gettleman has an eye for talent and what works in the nfl for the most part, but his fetish for big men on the line and him liking the smell of his own poo too much really hamper him as a GM. -
I'd agree with that latter part. But I think there's only a handful of QBs that can elevate their team with 2< playmakers on their team, and maybe only about 2 in the league right now. That said there's not many QBs who can survive behind a bad O-line. This isnt a knock on Watson but even with all.of his skills the Texans went out of their way to build that O-Line around him, at least the Tackles anyway. And look at Russ making noise because he's tired of getting hit. Any QB is gonna need an O-Line if they want to be able to consistently press downfield, if the pocket fugs up then a lot of QBs are gonns break down. I've seen Alabmas line give up quick pressure and Jones move around with a plan in the pocket to make a throw. If the pocket allows that and not instant "haha you're fuged" pressure there's not a single reason to believe Jones can't do that in the NFL.
-
I'd say they're all comparable tbh. Matt Ryan/Eli Manning is a pretty fair comp imo, though I'd say he's better ar moving in the pocket and throwing off platform than both. I also think he has a better ability to throw on a rope than Ryan too.
-
That's completely fair. I think he has above average (no where near the Elite canons the other QBs in the draft, and I 100% agree he dulls in comparison to those arms. But I still like him. And I still think he's a 1st round talent easy. Yeah he threw to wide open guys but that's not his fault. Fields threw to wide open guys all the time (and note: I like Fields as a prospect more than Jones) but we still hype of Fields. I think the little things Mac does, shoulder fackes, holding safeties, decision making, etc is second to only TL (and in the case of Shoulder Fakes and DB manipulation I'd give a slight edge to Macorkie) and if a 5eam can make it to the SB with a solid playmaking defense and a top 5 HB with Jared fugin Goff getting spoonfed Info I have no doubt Jones can do that too, he's a wayyyyy better prospect coming out than Goff was. That all said could be wrong! I'm not gonna act like he's a burner but if he puts up something like a 4.9-5.0 I don't have too much concern personally I think he has good enough improv skills and I think improvisation as a whole while strong, is a tad overated as guys with very average to okay mobility have been in the SB more recently than not, but I'm Also not gonna act like the NFL isn't treading that way and that someone like Jones COULD get phased out.

Truly a convincing counter argument

Herbert obviously has better arm talent. But that alone not why Herbert was a great player this season. I like Mac Jones. I think he can become a very good QB in the NFL. He' a got a good arm and he has shown he can make every throw you can ask for. Great pocket movement. Doesn't have a cannon like any of the top prospects in this draft, but I think he fits in a system much like Brady's like a glove. Personally I like trying to trade up to 3 and getting whoever is there between Fields or Wilson the best but i don't think walking away with Mac at 8 and building our roster up through the draft doesn't hurt either. This coaching staff has shown they know how to get the most out of what they have. And if they like Mac Jones, a guy they had a week long interview with at 8? Cool. If not? Cool. Tons of talent in the top 8 this year.
-
I remember you being very strongly against Herbert last year too. Look at the player not the Helmet. Was he throwing to wide open guys? Absolutely but he was making pinpoint throws more often than not. Great movement in the pocket and has more than functional ability to improv and throw on the run. Even if he turns out to be a Joe Flacco/Jay Cutler ceiling we'll be fine with him.

Kelvin Joseph would be a riser rn if we had a typical combine. He would probably have a really good combine and at 6'1-6'2 he's got prototypical size at CB. Dude is my #1 CB. I like him more than Surtian. I like him more than Farley. He is technically sound, patient and can matchup with so many corners in the NFL. Has some ill-elaborated "character concerns" I've heard varying degrees of, but would love LOVE him in the second and I'm screaming to the podium if he's there in the third. Davis Mills is my first real "has a chance to be a starter early" QB prospect in a few years. That said for us he'd still be my plan E for walking away with a QB this off-season. Can be a really rhythmic passer and makes some really good improv plays. Throws the post like a champ. But also has some real head scratcher plays and his mechanics are wonky. He reminds me of Prescott coming out, that's not to say he'll be the caliber of NFL player Prescott is. I'd try him in the Mid 3rd-4th range. He's my QB7 (above Trask). Could work well in this offense but I have the controversial take of saying the same about Mac Jones at 8 if they like him. Finally, and I'm piggybacking Voch Lombardi on this one I haven't looked into this guy much myself, but Richie Grant looks like the best FS in this class easy. Smart as a fuging whip and IDs routes and puts himself in the best position routinely. Would even trade up in the 20s if there's a chance someone might Darnell Savage him this year. Would be ecstatic if his stock stayed the same. There's a few more gems I want to look into. There's some decent mind round UTs I want to look into. I'm still novice at Oline so I haven't really touched this class.

Could we be sleeping on Mac Jones? Charlie Weiss says YES.

Dudes the most mechanically sound QB behind Lawrence. Makes NFL throws on the regular and has great pocket presence. Scouting the player and not the helmet he's easily better than McCarron and way more polished than someone like Daniel Jones, Mitch Tribusky and Blake Bottles. He's a first round QB easy. I'd say the asking price of QBs make him worth a top 10 pick. He has a higher ceiling than QBs that got this kind of rise like Ponder, Dalton, etc. But I get the question marks, but I think they're overblown a tad with the hype around pocket presence. Is he a better prospect that Fields, Wilson, Lawrence and Lance? Athletically no, not even close. But I think people parrot his weakpoints and over look how his play was just as vital to that Albama offense this season. He's a damn good QB. -
May not be the place but what's your take on Suratt?

Can I use this post to start the Marcus Mage train because I fuging would kill for us to pursue Marcus Maye
-
Going in as the starter =/= no moves at QB. It's Febuary 19th. Free Agency hasn't started. We don't know what the hell is gonna happen with the combine. We don't know what's happening with Watson. We don't know what's happening at 3 or possibly 2 yet. There's a lot of dominoes still to fall. We have no idea what's gonna happen with QBs all over the leauge, not just here.

If that's what they're looking for from our FS Chinn might be the new starting S. Which I'm not against.

Joe Person: Realistic free agent possibilities for the Panthers
Rags replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not pouding the drum for him but they did play him as a Mike for a bit. When they played him at edge wow, he looked really good. If Rhule likes him and the price is right, would be a great pickup to pair with Burns and lets YGM play with his hand in the dirt consistently. -
The question of Curtis. Tim Weaver wants to keep him.
Rags replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree with most of this. I doubt Godwin is going anywhere though so that makes Curt the best speed guy in the FA. Depends on what the market is for that. -

We are now manufacturing touches foe D.J. Holy poo. And "go to" in the redzone is hilarious because our redzone offense is terrible. Why are we having this pissing contest? They're both good WRs. But isn't signing everyone that's remotely good one of the reasons we hated Marty and was in cap hell. It sucks but unless the FA market blows for him we'll probably see him walk. He's not better than D.J. and he's definitely not better than CMC. Recency Bias got y'all twisted. -
Not crazy about this trade. We just watched a team in our division dismantle teams with better defenses and o-lines than ours throughout the playoffs and we're gonna pull a LA and just go without first rounders for a while? It's a massive fugin reach all day. Long game and stay the course is my hope. We're not just a QB away.
