Meanwhile Anthony Richardson:

lol Moton with the stop on Young!
-
Pass Rush is non-existent. Secondary will have to work much harder. Offense, well, Young better not get more jitters or it'll be a long day.
-
Good TFL by Shaq. One of the few brighter spots on defense, always felt he was underrated.
-
I miss Cam Newton. And at this point, I also miss Sam Darnold.
-
Oh boy lol
-
Looks Horn expected help over the top but should've been more proactive when realizing he wasn't getting it. Not ideal!

not a great start

Run defense shaky

Overall, I anticipate this being a low-scoring game. The Panthers might start strong with an impressive opening drive, showcasing some growth in their offense. However, once the initial plays are over, I expect the Saints to tighten up, making it difficult for the Panthers to find open receivers, thanks to their strong secondary. For the Panthers to stay competitive, they'll need to get creative with their play-calling and work harder to scheme their receivers open throughout the game. Their biggest advantage is facing this tough Saints defense away before anything is put on film, and they should make the most of that. That said, I give the edge to the Saints, who have a more proven track record compared to Carolina. It's a tough call, but it should be an interesting game to watch either way.

Exactly. I hated Reich's approach last season. Young is a limited QB in terms of structured pocket play. Mobility is his strongest suit and Canales played that to its maximum potential. Honestly why in hindsight I'm shocked Reich didn't yell out in anger that they took Young instead of Stroud. His system clearly is designed for a more taller, stronger armed QB that prefers structure rather than the mobile finesse playmaker type Young is. Glad at least Canales is showing promise he can maximize Young's strengths and hide his weaknesses.

I'm not really a Bryce Young fan, but to be fair, this wasn't the best example of him missing a deep shot opportunity. The play design was set up for a half-field read to the right, and if the first or second read is wide open, that's where the ball is going. His field of vision wouldn't naturally shift to the other side unless those primary options were shut down. I 100% agree that Bryce Young still needs to prove he'll take those deep shots when they’re there, but in this particular case, he executed as designed. Now that it’s on film, Canales might consider making that a more primary read if the same look comes up again, and we'll see if Young takes the touchdown next time. But in this instance, it was clear Young or most QBs would be instructed not to look for it since it's not within his half field first few options + goal is always getting the ball out as soon as can be when decent opportunities present themselves.

The Panthers pendulum swing rule Offense looks good - defense will look bad. And vice versa.
-
Young, keep this up pls. That was beautiful, never seen anything like it last season. Competent offensive execution, good off script plays, and great communication all around. Canales may indeed be the QB's best friend and Young looks far more comfortable.

Meh DJ Johnson needs to learn to finish harder for more pressure and converting such into dacks, but he's got the fundamentals down on setting the edge and had a nice TFL for the chase down. Seems his pass rush moveset is more limited more than anything, but the fundamentals are certainly. For the draft resources invested, he's so far been about as useful as Daeshon Hall, but hopefully he keeps improving and starts making an impact. The effort on the TFL was nice.

Gimme Pickles over Plummer he's atrocious.
-
At least TJ Smith seems to be a nice surprise. Can't say that he didn't have some help by the Jets braindead QB, but a sack is a sack.

last year showed that this team tenda to stay within the confines of preseason level play at best. even with new coaching management, unless proven otherwise, i'm assuming this team will continue to play at that preseason level since bryce young can't effectively QB at an NFL level.
-
yea no idc if the waterboys were playing tonight, the product that was displayed on the field was atrocious. after last preseason's "ruh uh it's all vanilla" poo, there's no excuse this year to see a complete failure of basic execution of vanilla NFL concepts and techniques. Sure, they were backups, but you'd hope to see some semblance of an NFL team rather than a Gastonia JV second string level disaster. Tonight was a disaster. It provided no positive answers, only negative, and starking at that. This team isn't ready, has zero NFL talent at depth, and will be following the same trend as last year if they keep this up.
-
anyways the panthers have not progressed or shown this roster will be any better than what was shown last year. when coupled with a midget at qb, don't expect any miracles. just more disappointment.
-
i think my joke was poorly executed since multiple assume i was serious. meant to be ironic and playing off last year's sentiment - that the patriots defense is clearly playing vanilla, and come regular season the panthers offense will actually face nfl teams that'll gameplan, and said offense will look far worse when they actually have to face defenses that try.
-
richest owner in the league can't spare a few pennies to maintain a grass field. with that mindset the team we have under his tenure is the one he deserves.
-
people here acting like preseason is any way indicative of how the regular season will go. like you really expect me to believe this vanilla gameplan is what's gonna happen in the regular season? NFL defenses won't keep playing vanilla come regular season, they'll actually have a gameplan against the Panthers. There's no way they'll look any better come then.

Adding on to that - I know I read from some reporter that Dak Prescott's mentality is extremely fragile. Get in his head, and he loses focus and confidence. Per that reporter, anytime a big game comes up, he starts to have the jitters and hasn't seem to overcome that slump. Dak would be an upgrade over Bryce as things currently stand. But Dak has not proven he can play in games that matters without choking. Bryce hasn't had the chance to show anything in the NFL, so nothing much to say there. But based on his history, he's done well in college in the national championship. Theoretically he should be more confident in big games if he gets to that point. For that alone, I'd rather keep rolling the dice on Bryce or set our sights higher. I wouldn't touch Dak with a 10 ft pole given his choking habits.
