Just off the top of my head, I think hes better than Geno Smith/Drew Lock, Sam Darnold, Jared Goff, Mac Jones, Davis Mills, Daniel Jones, Marcus Marriota, Jameis Winston, Mitch Trubisky, Zach Wilson, Jimmy G, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence. I put him in the Jalen Hurts/Tua/Tannehill/Matt Ryan tier. Middle of the pack, IMO.

Baker is much better than the 28th QB in the NFL, IMO.

poo, you figured me out. Yes, its me guys. Panthers favorite Jonathan Stewart. AMA!

Mayfield "at an immediate disadvantage" (The 33rd Team)
joemac replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would be a lot more scared of that if it was his throwing shoulder that he had the injury and operation on. And its REALLY hard to change your throwing mechanics permanently in such a small amount of time. I imagine he will be back to throwing the same as he always has. -
There's no debate. Baker is an actual functional starting QB in the NFL. Sam is not. Simple as.

Coming out of college Mayfield was considered elite with the mental side of things. Read the Sports Illustrated draft profile on him that was posted in a previous thread. Lincoln Riley raved about his intelligence and his mental preparation. They gave him some test called the "AIQ", which is pretty much a modern Wonderlic, and he scored in like the top 10% of all the people who have taken the test. So, I don't think intelligence is the issue either. When hes put it all together hes been a great QB. 2020 was a great year for him. His rookie year was very very good. Hes just gotta play consistent.

This dude has got CTE or some poo. This is maybe the most absurd take I have ever seen from a so-called "expert". Like WTF? I seem to recall Baker having like top 5 velocity on his passes coming out of the combine. I think they test those kinda things now, and Mayfield was elite.

Stupid awesome.

There already are. Some knob up this page said it looks like an arena league team. Whatever the hell that means.

We are a CHAOS team per Brooks, but some see us as a team in chaos
joemac replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
We're a QB away from being a legit team. We've got enough great talent at the positions to make some real noise. QB is the issue. If they trot Sam out there again, im not fuging watching. Simple as. However, I know they did not deal for Baker with the idea of him riding the pine. That makes no sense. Baker starts, plays well, and leads us to wildcard contention -
Yeah thats a very good question. If McAdoo's history is any indication, you would have to think its a shotgun, pass heavy, spread concept offense. Mayfield was a monster at OU running that kind of system. We've got the weapons to do it, and if the o-line ends up being decent, we could be really good thru the air. IDK about all that Mayfield falling off in the 4th quarter because the throws take it out of him or whatever. Hes a professional thrower. QBs throw at most, what? 60 times once a week? And not all of those are max effort. Baseball pitchers throw over 100 pitches, max effort each time, every 5 days or so. Now, pitchers don't have 300 lb guys on the other side trying to kill them every play, so its a little different, but arm fatigue should have little to do with it in a single game.

Yes, I know. Mayfield has thrown what, 56 INTs in 4 years. Is that really that many, though? Thats 14 a season. And its offset by the fact that he had 21 in one season, his second. Other than that hes had 14, 8, and 13. Even last year, his supposed, terrible year, he only had 13 picks. Personally Im not really worried about all that. He will have CMC to dump the ball off to if things do not look good, so hopefully he will not be forcing the ball into windows he shouldn't as much with us.
-
So, I think what we can HOPEFULLY say is that last year was an injury ravaged aberration in his career, and that before last year, he was maybe one of the most successful Number 1 overall picks in NFL history. Im very interested to see how this all plays out.

Hopefully Baker Mayfield ends up as our franchise QB and we don't even have to consider drafting one next year.
-
Whats happening with them?
-
Could be, but Baker has been one the best play action/deep ball passers in the league over his 4 years. Those videos by Kurt Warner posted yesterday detail that. However I think what you suggest could work. Bakers got the skills to kill teams deep, especially with the threat of a dump off to CMC there every play. Our O could be very interesting this year. McAdoo, for all the strife he got as a HC, was a VERY productive OC with NY.

Says who? Top 5 is just some arbitrary number you made up. I would say top 10 or even 15 at your position would be considered great. Top 5 would be elite, best of the best.

DJ Moore is a great player. Brian Burns is a great player, Taylor Moton is great, Jeremy Chinn is great.
-
I really cannot believe there is one single serious Panthers fan around that would like to see Sam throw even 1 more pass in a Panthers uniform.

Yeah they’re the only ones that got caught
