so I've got to ask.. is it worth it being a fan of this team?
jtm replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
No, it is not worth it with Tepper as the owner. I had faith in JR and this is what kept me around during the dark times. I'm actively searching for a new team and don't feel guilty about it. However, it is not easy to walk away from 30 years and I keep coming back to this dumpster fire for some sad reason. -
Real Talk - A New Approach in Being A Fan Currently
jtm replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
I did option 3 last year which was search for a new team. Geographically, the Jags are the other team that is close to where I live and I'm trying to like them but I keep coming back to the Panthers. It is so hard to walk away from 29 years of entertainment, but I'm trying. I have zero faith in Tepper and he has zero ties to the area and I think all he cares about is revenue and with the NFL profit sharing, bad teams still print money. -
Sadly, I think this is it. This gets back to everyone's issue with Tepper because I would bet a lot of money that the coaches would prefer to win and Dalton give us the best chance to win at the moment, but Tepper isn't going to have this. In Tepper's defense, I don't think many owners would be any different in the 2nd year of a rookie QB that they went all in with.
-
I don't disagree but if Dalton is playing then we are picking a new QB next year anyway and I'd rather keep losing so we can get the #1 pick. All of us are furious because sports should be enjoyable and nothing about the Panthers has been enjoyable for a long time. I watched the lowest amount of football I've ever watched in my life last year and I might take the same approach this year depending on the next couple of weekends.

QB Rankings & Record under the David Tepper Era
jtm replied to Chad_Cota's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah we are in the midst of a historically bad time to be a Panthers fan. I'm not sure the Panthers can get out of it with Tepper. -
I think you have to give Young the whole year unless he completely loses his confidence. If this happens, we are moving on from him anyway so why does it really matter. I think the #1 pick is going to be between the Panthers and Giants.

Sports are just as much mental as physical and especially at the QB position. I think Canales repaired Mayfield mentally and now he's balling out. He balled out his first year or two in the league, so the talent is there. I'm not there on Darnold and I need to see much more than one game.

After a rewatch of the game… is anyone weirdly confident about the future?
jtm replied to jb2288's topic in Carolina Panthers
The only and I mean only silver lining is the Saints might be that good. We'll see this weekend. I have zero optimism and zero incentive to suffer through another year of Panthers football with Tepper. At least in the past we had faith that Richardson was trying to do the right thing. Now, we get to hear about soccer and concerts. -
I'm impressed this many people actually watched the whole game.

Moton and Tuttle have contracts restructured - $10.7M added to cap space
jtm replied to Memphis's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is a joke because teams can just restructure deals and free up cap space. Plus the cap increases every year. Dead money is what hurts teams. -

Teams don't seem to get in trouble for overpaying players as long as these players are good players. Instead, teams get in big trouble when they overpay for poor talent or overpay a guy that quits trying after his big payday. The cap is a joke these days and especially for teams with a QB on a rookie contract. -
I think you are going to see a completely different offense. I think Bryce is going to ball out. I just worry about the sack fumbles because that’s tough to fix and defenses keyed on this after it was exposed.

This place could have Tom Brady as a qb and folks would complain. Moton is a stud and has been one of the few players that has performed despite the awful coaching and drafting. -
I'll take 1-0 and celebrate this. We'll worry about next week next week - haha .

I feel the same way but I have a weird feeling that Canales thinks this team is going to be decent and why he hasn't showed his hand. If this is accurate, this is a big advantage for the first game because no one has any tape of our offense. I'd be shocked if our defense wasn't solid.
-
I disagree and I think we'll quickly see if this year is going to be more of a couple win season or if we have a chance to be .500.

Morgan is in a tough spot and I don’t envy him. Tough owner combined with impatient fans and the fans lack of patience is warranted given that we are likely on our 3rd rebuild in 5 years. Morgan/Beane’s playbook in Buffalo was to free up cap space and aggressively go after players in free agency and especially on the OL and DL. So far we’ve seen this already on the OL.

Panthers bring Jordan Matthews back to 53-man roster
jtm replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's a good dude, hard working, and very intelligent. I watched him play a lot in college at Vandy and he's fun to watch. -
Solid LB for many years and I don't think you can find a player that is more dedicated to a team than Shaq. He restructured multiple times and even took less money to stay with the Panthers.

Panthers bring Jordan Matthews back to 53-man roster
jtm replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm happy he made the roster because he seemed to give our offense some excitement when he was on the field. He was open a lot and we can't say that about any tight end we've had since Olsen. -
I don't really know what to make of the bottom of the roster turnover. Maybe this is Morgan being awesome or maybe our team is that bad that other team's castoffs are better than what we have. I think it definitely sends a message to the team that no one is safe other than a handful of players. I'm all for this because less than 5 players on the entire roster have played well enough the past couple of years to be secure with their job.
