Panthers waiver claims and practice squad signings
Carl Spackler replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
We're gonna see how well our beloved Owls hold up now that they've moved from the AAC to the NFC. -

And Walker, Thompson and Chandler. As was Ventell Bryant. -

Think that's twice as many as from any other college, correct? And that's a program with an all-time bowl record of 3-6, IIRC. -

How many Temple guys? -

Between existing as the Temple Owls' job bank and as the AAA affiliate of the New York Jets, I'm hoping our next moves will be to hire Lin Wood and Rudy Giuliaini as general counsel and add Rachel Nichols as a sideline reporter. Joking aside, it's just nice to see us sign someone not from Temple or Baylor. There's no way I'm down on giving Morgan a shot. Any guy one year removed from being a fourth-round pick on a different dumpster fire deserves another shot. Now, granted, he could come in and throw for 200 yards and 4 TDs every preseason game next year and he's still QB3 behind Darnold/other starter and Ol' PJ -
4th youngest team in the league as of cutdown day

Myles Garrett hasn't been so bad when he keeps his helmet on. I'd definitely be more optimistic about our chances of turning things around if I weren't so convinced the coach is more interested in serving as the Temple Owls' job bank. -

They're proof that picking top-5 enough, and landing good players doing so, can turn you around. Thinking we're next in line to try that. -

Historically it's seemed that we've typically been more on the older side as a team, so I'll be interested to see how the young Owls hold up over the course of a 17-game season. Maybe we'll be bowl-eligible by year's end, who knows. -

I think with a new owner, new GM and a second-year coach who are driven to get rid of every player they didn't draft/didn't coach at Temple or Baylor, there's naturally going to be a lot of turnover. It's a smart ploy by any coach: keep fielding a college team every year and when you don't win, just call it a rebuild. -
The Panthers currently have the most cap space in the entire NFL

Clearing up room to trade for Matt Ioannidis, Dion Dawkins and Tyler Matakevich? -

James Morgan is worth kicking the tires on. A fourth-rounder from last year on the practice squad isn't that bad. -

Don't rule out both happening. Or neither, if our offense balls out and the upperclassman Owls step up. -
Maybe Zylstra took online summer classes at Temple.

So we added back all the Temple and Baylor guys we cut, did we not? -
I don't really care either way but we've added a few million to our cap number next year by getting rid of players who never played a down here, haven't we?

Waiver wire and free agent folly. Who we getting?

Lol I love how you and like 10 others say this and people love it, but they soil themselves when I say the same things -
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I don’t know what gives you that idea.
-
People get mad at me for making Temple jokes but they should really get mad because they’re true.
-
Try again. Against Baltimore he completed 11 passes for 144 yards. PJ completed one for 8 yards and he played nearly the entire second half (leading us to 0 first downs)
-
It sort of goes without saying that he’s here as long as Rhule is here. He’s the new Brenton Bersin.
-
Are you really giving Matt Rhule like 5-6 losing seasons? That’s a lot of patience.
-
Congrats on getting the job by default on account of going to Temple. He did a great job all preseason of going to Temple and really did a better job than Grier at going to Temple all off-season too.

That's fine, you can stand on being wrong. -
D'Wan Mathis is our future QB. He's perfect: he's at Temple and he can't complete half his passes against scrubs
-
Maybe coax RG3 out of retirement?
