A Tankathon Approach to the remaining Schedule
kungfoodude replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am just done with any RAS king that has suspect issues with hands, route running, etc. No more TMJ's, Mingo's, XL's, etc. Be good at the job of a WR. -

I really dislike the tanking in the last two games. That doesn't sit well with me. -

I am over 40 times at WR. If you don't have elite hands on tape, I don't want you here. -
You are literally describing Dan Snyder. How soon we forget the INSANE offseason signings they made early in his tenure.

If you look at the deepest teams in the NFL, they all draft fairly well. But, some of that is also enhanced by being good franchises. A lot of their guys aren't forced into early action in situations where it is challenging to develop. TBH, we have never had a situation in our franchise history where we had sustained success in the draft. Shocker we haven't ever had back to back winning seasons, right? -
Well they got rid of their Dan Snyder and it showed immediately. He GOT our Dan Snyder and it has showed immediately.

I am fine with whatever role Hunter decides but he would have to give up the idea of being a FT two way player. My big concern with him is quite literally the excess mileage he has accured doing that in college. I like McMillian, in terms of where I would slotted him in the 2024 draft class it would be behind Nabers(my #1) and Harrison Jr. Probably similar to Rome Oduze, which I realize might not be a comforting comparison but in that same talent range. I know he gets Mike Evans comps, I would say Mike Evans light. -

That's what I am saying. That's a no brainer trade. And I like Horn but Wilson is the better player and likely will have the more impactful career. To be fair to Horn, I don't think he makes sense if we have Evero long term(doubtful). He is a guy that needs to be shadowing the best WR and attempting to lock him down. Not locked on his side of the field getting whatever whodat is lining up there that snap. The issue with Horn is going to ultimately be cost, IMO. It's very hard to justify paying him as a top 5 or maybe even top 10 CB when in truth he has never been able to play at that level for long stretches of time, to say nothing of the availability concern. I hope we learned from the CMC episode that it isn't wise to be signing mega deals to players with persistent injury concerns. -

Well the QB's are only up there because of the lack of elite talent at the position, I wholly agree with that and I think most do. I think McMillian and Hunter are geniunely elite talent. -

I trust Dan way more on the pro personnel side than I do the draft evaluations. Pretty bad draft in 2024, very Fitterer-esque(something I said at the time too). Hope he turns it around this offseason. -

Yeah, I mean I am all for getting a player like that. I just doubt it happens. -

Yeah, I was also not high on Nix. It sucks he is doing well. Nothing against him, obviously but fug Denver and fug Pill Payton. -

I mean, who in their right mind wouldn't make that trade? Horn is a very good player but he is less likely to end up being elite at his position than Wilson is, IMO. -

I am not saying don't trade for him or at least consider it, but I also don't want to give up a king's ransom for a guy that bolts in a couple of years because he never wanted to be here in the first place. And this is all speculative. We have no idea what his feelings about us are. I am just saying that in general I don't want guys that really, really don't want to be here. -

Well in this context we are talking about "talent." The pool of players that have potential to be top 10 players at their position is fairly small in this draft. This is largely the general of view this class. That doesn't mean you can't get very good players or starters. It doesn't mean guys won't perform better than their "projections." That happens all the time. But these general takes on a class or position tend to be correct more often than they aren't. Good recent example was that 2022 QB class which was largely viewed as one of the worst in recent memory. And, it's largely been that....minus Brock Purdy. But the entire rest of that class is 2nd or 3rd string QB's after amassing a LOT of games started. -

Sure but why would you want to bring in a guy that literally doesn't want to be here? That isn't likely to work out the way we hope. I still doubt they move him, TBH. I suspect they are far more likely to move on from Rodgers than move Wilson. -

This draft is very light on elite talent but there are a lot of positions that have substantial depth. WR, EDGE, etc. There is no excuse to not end up with 2 new starters with our first two picks. -

Outside Brown and MAYBE Horn, name a player on this defense that will still be on the roster at the start of the 2027 season. IMO, you need to add a minimum of at least 4 new starters or potential starters on defense this offseason. Anything less is going to prolong this building project from 2-3 seasons and push it out even further. We also can't afford to whiff on our top 3 picks in the draft again, especially if any of them are defensive players. -
With an elite defense too.
-
Sam Darnold would be significantly higher on the TO list than he already is if he were still here. Probably Baker too. Baker might get us maybe 2 more wins. When you suck as a team, there isn't going to be a one player solution. Even Allen/Mahomes/Jackson would be struggling to compensate for this defense.

Wilson or Higgins are a great solution but we have no idea if they want anything to do with us. Frankly, it may have to involve a top 5 at position salary(if not #1 overall) to make it even a possibility. -

Or someone like Egbuka. There seems to be a lot of separation between the very thin elite WR talent and a pretty deep second tier pool of WR's. The question is when will the run on those guys start. Given that our premium 2nd rounder is Chicago's the fact that we are currently not picking until the latter half of the 2nd round may put us out of the range where those guys are available. -

It's possible we end up in the range McMillan drops to. I suspect we will draft some ho-hum pass rusher instead. Rebuilding the front 7 is a multi-year project but we have to actually start the process at some point. Center is a need, for sure. We have a middling guy that is very injury prone and two backup caliber C's. Get a 10+ year solution. -
Yeah, we set Evero up to fail in the offseason. I don't think he had to do it this spectacularly, though. Seems like a bit much.
-
What did you get right and what did you get wrong? Nailed - 2-5 wins - Worst roster talent-wise we have fielded in franchise history - The rookie draft class would be largely ineffective. - Corbett would inevitably get injured and we would have to scramble at Center. Whiffed - Bryce would lose his starting job and be gone in 2025. - Jalen Coker was another Huddle UDFA pipe dream. - The OL would be significantly worse than expected after the offseason signings. - Jaycee Horn would miss significant time during the season due to injury.
