You are out of your tree if you think any of that is happening. How do backup OL and non-1st rounders help them? I am not understand how so many here think the Bengals are going to make Panthers bad trades when they literally don't have to do anything.

Good Lord, he is a pretty terrible judge of QB if that was true. I am skeptical. Well, his iron was hot for a while and with the weapons he had in Detroit, it wasn't likely to fall off anytime soon. He did the right thing, several offseasons of interviews/interest and chose the right situation. That's where a lot of these guys fail. Thinking they can go to a poorly run franchise or a franchise in a deep hole and then be able to dig out of it.

I think they are just broadcasting "open for business" to see what comes to their doorstep. It's an interesting move. If they had SPECIFIC players in mind, they would have just contacted those teams directly.

I don't think they are in quite the same scenario because they are broadcasting that they are looking to move draft picks. That's wild considering their position but if it leads to long term ruin for them, I will be quite happen to see it. fug the Pats and their shitbird fans.

I think drawing a direct line from seeing coaches/players visibly smiling to being mad at the team is just a symptom of the anger you have at our situation. There is nothing wrong with what you are describing. The issue is that the results are poor and have been for a long time. That's just sort of what it is at the moment and it puts us as the fans on edge. IDGAF what the atmosphere they are creating is, if it's producing results. There are ample ways to skin that cat and different successful coaches have had different approaches.

I think most of the coaches we have had would have mopped the floor with Tepper. Not sure that is a thing. Had you said, didn't challenge his authority....I could agree with that.

Yeah, that was the classic example of the grass not always being greener. I would kill to have the mediocrity with occasional peaks of excellence we experienced under those guys. It's been quite the ride all the way to the bottom of the NFL.

I don't really consider an interim coach to be on the list. Didn't have an offseason to prepare, etc. Hard to judge overall. I do also think Wilks was vastly overrated by our fanbase. He looked so good because he was competent in a sea of absolute poo. I think his peak effectiveness level is defensive positional coach. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is suited to be a HC.

That's why this is a 16 page discussion. It's hard to rectify what the Bengals reportedly want, what Hendrickson reportedly wants and what we have/want to offer. The math doesn't add up.

I think we just got spoiled by back to back longer tenured "old school professional" head coaches. We literally had 18 straight years of guys knowing exactly what it takes to be a professional football player and professional organization. Haven't had it since. Closest was Reich but he never stood a chance to even attempt it. Team and staff built by committee.

I think calling this out in the preseason is ridiculous. DC himself exercises limited effort in the preseason, so it's a reflection of that, if anything. As for the team lacking effort, we aren't gonna know that until the bullets are live. If that rears it's head early in the season or we hear comments from the players/coaches calling it out early in the season, I would say the culture is likely already broken out of the gate. If it crops up after weeks and weeks of losing, I am not terribly worried about it. It's just a reflection of the situation. There is plenty of time for "sky is falling" takes. Pleeenty of time.

The Perkins vs. Plummer thing is a big non-story, IMO. Neither of these guys is worth keeping a roster spot for. They are PS players, so it's not a battle that truly matters. If that does happen during the season, things are already off the rails enough that none of this is going to matter at all.

He was extremely smart and chose the best possible spot to become a new HC. Not enough of them do that.

Well, to be fair, there are also plenty of times you see some "business decisions" and/or fairly low intensity play on bad franchises. It is obviously very draining on players to go out there and lose week in and week out. Good example being the 2010 Panthers(or was it 2001?) where several of our longer tenured players said they saw the FO basically set them up to fail prior to the season starting. I am sure that creates a different atmosphere. The NFL is still a business, after all.

There are ample examples of former NFL players coaches talking about guys that didn't put in the work and ended up out of the league in short order. My God, remember JaMarcus Russell as the most famous example?

They also aren't hurting for money, nor is he himself. Oh, no doubt. They have a hole to climb out of long term, but losing for multiple years on end isn't likely to make any owner happy.

Ikey is a lifelong Panthers fan and talked like he WANTS to be here long term. I am hoping some of that creeps into the negotiations, although I would fully understand if it didn't. We also have a "punt" option with Ikey using the franchise tag. Not ideal but better than shooting for the moon on another Horn deal before he really earned it.

No reason to push that. Low grade strains can quickly turn more serious without proper rest. Reps would be limited to none in Game 3 anyway.

I don't think the discussions they had with their new coach included "fug it, tank for Arch for however long is necessary" plans. I also think people are jumping to assumptions on where he will end up AND when he will leave. Don't be shocked to see him play his entire college career out or stay in school to duck a bad franchise(including the Saints, BTW).

Yeah and there is no real benefit to Dalton starting/playing. He is a long tenured veteran. Those reps have little value.
