Okay, so you are just an idiot. Well, that makes sense. -
Eagles and Colts reach deal on Wentz trade

Waiting for his "whiny bitch" comments for Wentz. Watson got them. Watt didn't. Hmmmm..... -
ESPN Predicts Watson to be the Panthers starter in 2021

I mean....IDK about that. Wilson, Rodgers, Brady are all ahead of him on that list, I would say. Unquestionably an elite QB, however. -
We may not agree on everything but you getting called out by that dumpster fire of an idiot is laughable.
-
I mean, that isn't that far out and I imagine the negotiations have begun already. I agree on the shorter term contracts being the trend. Honestly, most players never make the end of a 4+ year deal anyway, so why even bother?
-
I think the TV deals are up in 2022 and 2023. So that could boost revenue for next season, potentially. If I were a player, I'd definitely be in the NFLPA and my agent's ear looking at the next three or so years before I opted to sign any deal. I mean, unless you are already looking at a mega-contract headed your way. Keep in mind, there were some big deals signed during this whole thing, so the elite player market may not be impacted very much. Once FA kicks off, it will be interesting to see what the mid-tier player contracts look like.
-
The thing is, the agreement is to spread out the revenue loss over the next three offseasons. Perhaps the loss will not be as great(which the +$5 mil floor might be an indication of) but it could also mean a fairly static cap for the next three seasons. That might make it difficult to "wait it out." This is also assuming that the NFL is back to normal operations in 2021.

It's hilarious that anyone paid attention to the Huddle's all-time most useless poster crying about Mr. Scot creating a thread.

I honestly didn't think he would be this bad in crunch time. I thought he might be a starting quality game manager. It became clear he is a backup QB in the league. Now we are stuck with one of these Nick Foles/Mike Glennon/Brock Osweiler deals. Ugh.

The question of Curtis. Tim Weaver wants to keep him.
kungfoodude replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
You are entitled to that opinion, I just don't agree. Look at our franchise draft history alone. We have only ever drafted 2-3 upper tier WR's in team history, not including DJ Moore. Moore has the capability of being one of the elite WR's in the NFL. Samuel is a great utility player but I don't envision him ever being a #1 WR, nor do I envision him ever leading his team in receptions or receiving yards. He's not a go to player that can still thrive as the focal point of an offense. -

Yeah and if he doesn't want gain a lot of traction in free agency, I'd surely take him back on a 1 year, $6-8 mil deal, provided we have the cap space to make that work. -

I'd love to keep him around but let's also remember that he finally "broke through" in his contract year. It's always wise to be a little wary of those guys. And, yes, I fully acknowledge there may be more reasons for it than that. However, a highly skilled utility player like Samuel is a lot easier to find than a WR of DJ Moore's caliber. -
Pretty much this. I don't hate Teddy the person and I was extremely unenthusiastic about him as a player at signing. Admittedly, I think he gets thrown that softball because most of us feel badly about the injury he had and remember when it happened. It's more difficult to pile on a player that had that kind of almost career ending injury. Now, moving forward after he has taken home a Hurney sized pile of money from the Panthers, it might be a lot harder to have that sort of general sympathy for him.

You are reaching quite a bit.

La Canfora on Tepper's desire for Watson/franchise QB
kungfoodude replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am not willing to give up that much draft capital. I love Watson but we can't be a team that has to wait until his second mega-deal to compete. Trading away that many first round draft picks(plus more, I am sure) is not the way to do it. We just aren't the team that can afford that price. Maybe in 2 years. -

Making a bunch of "splash" free agent signings in one offseason doesn't usually net long term success, so I don't know if I would be keen on going down that road if I were the Jets. We will see what transpires. I suspect that the result will be surprising, no matter what happens. -

Yeah, I would sit if I were Watson. Get healthy, work out, win the media game..... I would maintain an active media presence and twist the media narrative to my advantage. The NFL is not going to want to see one of it's future stars on the sideline. -

They can only come after it on a season by season basis, not all in one chunk. Agreed. I don't expect it will extend into the season, although they may be dumb enough to do that. -

I'd probably pony up the 3 1st round picks but probably not the 2 seconds, as well. Let's not forget that is also a team lacking pretty heavily in talent. If I were to pick a team that would have the LEAST issue giving up those, it's probably Miami. They already are a good team so winning now might suit their purposes a lot more. For the Jets and us, we still have a lot of building to accomplish. Miami just needs some fine tuning. -
Possibly the craziest draft story you might read
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I am not super surprised by that. The sports media tends to be very monolithic about their draft takes. Actually, it's probably more groupthink than anything. The NFL scouting process seems to rarely work this way. By that same token, the NFL is a very copy-cat league, so seeing a creative gunslinger like Wilson will probably make some of these guys think about Murray, Mayfield, Mahomes, R. Wilson, etc. -

He has the $30 mil signing bonus but they will eventually be able to get all that back if he really did sit out his entire contract. No, in the 10 Burns scenario, Chinn is our QB. -
La Canfora on Tepper's desire for Watson/franchise QB
kungfoodude replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah and what we offered for Matt Stafford was a very, very fair deal, IMO. So, I do have some faith that we aren't going to lose our minds and spend an absurd amount to get Watson. All of that is likely fan/media overreaction. It may be a crazy market but that doesn't mean we as a franchise have to do crazy stuff. -
Steelers may part ways with Roethlisberger
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
He isn't the future of our team, he isn't going to be here for the future. There is no sense in having an aging "bridge" QB in our current situation. Not to mention it doesn't make any logical sense for him as a player. He has played his entire career with the Steelers. Were he to leave, I imagine he is going somewhere to chase a title next season. That isn't us. -

It's funny that you believe only NFL owners can act on principle, whereas players of a certain "sort" only see green. Says a lot about your worldview.
