Surprised they aren't on Hendrickson, although they may only be after younger players.

The Panthers have an effort problem

I think most of the coaches we have had would have mopped the floor with Tepper. Not sure that is a thing. Had you said, didn't challenge his authority....I could agree with that. -

Yeah, that was the classic example of the grass not always being greener. I would kill to have the mediocrity with occasional peaks of excellence we experienced under those guys. It's been quite the ride all the way to the bottom of the NFL. -

I don't really consider an interim coach to be on the list. Didn't have an offseason to prepare, etc. Hard to judge overall. I do also think Wilks was vastly overrated by our fanbase. He looked so good because he was competent in a sea of absolute poo. I think his peak effectiveness level is defensive positional coach. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is suited to be a HC. -

I think we just got spoiled by back to back longer tenured "old school professional" head coaches. We literally had 18 straight years of guys knowing exactly what it takes to be a professional football player and professional organization. Haven't had it since. Closest was Reich but he never stood a chance to even attempt it. Team and staff built by committee. -

I predict no less than 4 different QB's will make a start for them in 2025.

Yeah, I think if this is a thing, it's a DC thing. Rhule amped up the intensity to a comical, absurd and unprofessional level. -

I think calling this out in the preseason is ridiculous. DC himself exercises limited effort in the preseason, so it's a reflection of that, if anything. As for the team lacking effort, we aren't gonna know that until the bullets are live. If that rears it's head early in the season or we hear comments from the players/coaches calling it out early in the season, I would say the culture is likely already broken out of the gate. If it crops up after weeks and weeks of losing, I am not terribly worried about it. It's just a reflection of the situation. There is plenty of time for "sky is falling" takes. Pleeenty of time. -
He was extremely smart and chose the best possible spot to become a new HC. Not enough of them do that.

Well, to be fair, there are also plenty of times you see some "business decisions" and/or fairly low intensity play on bad franchises. It is obviously very draining on players to go out there and lose week in and week out. Good example being the 2010 Panthers(or was it 2001?) where several of our longer tenured players said they saw the FO basically set them up to fail prior to the season starting. I am sure that creates a different atmosphere. The NFL is still a business, after all. -

There are ample examples of former NFL players coaches talking about guys that didn't put in the work and ended up out of the league in short order. My God, remember JaMarcus Russell as the most famous example? -

Ikey is a lifelong Panthers fan and talked like he WANTS to be here long term. I am hoping some of that creeps into the negotiations, although I would fully understand if it didn't. We also have a "punt" option with Ikey using the franchise tag. Not ideal but better than shooting for the moon on another Horn deal before he really earned it. -
I don't think the discussions they had with their new coach included "fug it, tank for Arch for however long is necessary" plans. I also think people are jumping to assumptions on where he will end up AND when he will leave. Don't be shocked to see him play his entire college career out or stay in school to duck a bad franchise(including the Saints, BTW).

Yeah and there is no real benefit to Dalton starting/playing. He is a long tenured veteran. Those reps have little value.
-
I mean, I am not prepared to say Perkins is better. He is a similar caliber of QB, in that he isn't really an NFL caliber QB.
-
I think people vastly underrate his competence when it comes to being a backup. I also think people WAAAAAAAAY overrate the role of a backup QB.
-
I don't disagree but they are far more likely to stick with the devil they know as most teams do for those 3rd/PS spots. Plummer is good enough to run some scout team BS.

People always love a good underdog story and since we had Jake Delhomme, the fans remember a rags to riches QB success, despite the fact that those are extremely rare. This guy is here to eat up snaps in a meaningless game due to injuries. The odds of him making this roster are quite small, as he has literally missed the entire offseason here. Even a PS spot is a little far fetched.

I am failing to understand why we have a portion of the people in this thread so gung ho about this trade. Can you please logically explain why we should trade the asking price(or anywhere near, for that matter) and what benefit you hope to accomplish? The downsides seem to be clear(as have been stated by so many). Contract Price: Likely north of $30 mil AAV and 3+ years. Age: Will be 31 by the end of the season Draft Capital: With a roster bereft of proven talent, why give away a 4-5 year cheap and possibly high end future player? Player Compensation: What young defensive player do you plan on giving up? Horn and Brown are not a 1:1 trade plus the cap ramifications would be bad. What other young defensive players even have real trade value? Overall Net Benefit: This team is lacking in talent at a franchise historic level. Wins and playoff contention do not seem to be relatively close. So what is the benefit of adding an aging, expensive, elite pass rusher to a team in which so much more is needed to be a true competitor? When do you expect that to translate to winning seasons? Really, someone from the pro-trade camp, just give me a logical case as to why this would be a sound idea.
