Most Disappointing Moves of the 2020 Offseason
kungfoodude replied to AceBoogie's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tepper has fully admitted that he basically knew next to nothing about football and being an owner in the NFL. He focused initially on the business side of the organization because that he knows very well and has had to learn the football side. In that regard, I think he kept Hurney around purely out of ignorance.- 35 replies

Panther Fans Offseason QB Trade Quick Reference
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the thing that makes Brown less valuable at the moment is that he didn't produce at an elite level in year one(although he had some elite flashes) and also that interior DL have less positional value than elite WR's. If Brown becomes a Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Fletcher Cox type, he would be as valuable or more valuable than Moore. He's a riskier asset to trade for than Moore, at the moment. -

I gotcha.....well.....we probably would want to because our other core pieces are going to be due for deals in 2022 and 2023 and that hurts our ability to front load rather than backload the contracts. Perhaps we could tack some Drew Brees-esque dead money years onto the back end. I am reticent to do that, as we saw how that worked out for the Saints. -
The shitpost density in this thread is close to record numbers. We may be looking at breakaway dumb reaction if this doesn't get remedied.

Two owners worth of dumb in that move. At least we have one that is learning from that mistake.- 35 replies

fug that. He left Shaq, CMC AND Teddy's deals on the way out. That was a straight Hurney 1.0 exit.- 35 replies

Yeah but 60% of that locker room was gone. Also, Cam didn't go to a place where he owned the locker room when he left. He went to the place where the locker room is completely controlled by a coach. And, they actually loved Cam. He's just doesn't have "it" anymore.- 35 replies

Panther Fans Offseason QB Trade Quick Reference

That is why I have been saying his name from early on. He is an elite pass rusher(premium positional value in the NFL) with three years left on a rookie deal. He is the most valuable asset on our roster, despite what people think. Moore isn't super far behind him. The rest of our assets are worth far less. -

Why would we need to restructure his deal? He's insanely cheap. -

They have to honor it. We can see if he is willing to renegotiate but it is at his discretion -

I see a lot of theory but we need to be mindful of the actual financial impacts, as well. Like....trading CMC would absolutely nuke our cap. -

What do you mean specifically? -
This is assuming he agrees to that. It would be absolutely fantastic if it can do it. Possibly convert a chunk to a signing bonus, as well.

But keeping Cam was the better dumb move. We had Hurney here so the assumption is that a dumb move would be made. You have to pick your least dumb option and keeping Cam was it.- 35 replies

Ignore that last image. I have no idea why it won't delete. It wasn't in the original or the edit. Maybe a mod can get rid of it. @Zod @LinvilleGorge -
He would be owed $35 mil in 2022 and $37 mil in 2023. That may not be the high water mark for QB pay at the time. That is TBD. A lot of how badly that hurts us will be determined by how the cap adjusts for the COVID revenue loss. We could be back at original levels in 2022/2023 or they could be spreading out the complete revenue hit still(currently projected to be a spread out over those three years).

I keep seeing people misquote the cap figures and impacts for Watson, Teddy, CMC, Stafford, etc. Here is a screenshot guide from Overthecap for each of these oft referenced players. Things to keep in mind: THE PRORATED SIGNING BONUS MONEY NEVER LEAVES THE INITIAL TEAM. This does not count as cap hit for the team these players are traded to. All other remaining guaranteed money and bonus money(roster/workout/etc) IS TRANSFERED to the new team. I can add more players to this list upon request. Deshaun Watson Pre-June 1st Trade(prior to draft) Post-June 1st Trade(this would happen after 2021 draft) Matthew Stafford Pre-June 1st Trade(prior to draft) Post-June 1st Trade(this would happen after 2021 draft) Teddy Bridgewater Pre-June 1st Trade(prior to draft) Post-June 1st Trade(this would happen after 2021 draft) Christian McCaffery Pre-June 1st Trade(prior to draft) Post-June 1st Trade(this would happen after 2021 draft)

He isn't getting $40+ mil at any point in that contract unless he stays in Houston.

That is under the "I'll only go to Carolina" theory. I HOPE that happens but I am willing to bet that Watson has more than one place he would like to go. I do still believe he will go for less than the media is predicting.

I can't remember how many times so many of us said we should have just fuging kept Cam. He had one fuging year left on a CHEAPER DEAL. It was dumb then and it looks way, way, waaaaaaaaaaay dumber now.- 35 replies

I think this did get posted in another Watson thread and get debated there, FWIW.

I am sure he is not doing anything as harsh as what Nick Saban would say to you. -
Hypothetically We Land Watson
kungfoodude replied to TrevorLaurenceTime22's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is actually incorrect. His cap hit in 2021 is very low, $10.54 mil but his 2022 cap hit is $35 mil which would be the second highest paid year(after 2023) of his contract. These figures are assuming he is traded, they are substantially higher for the Texans with his prorated bonus money added.
