  1. I am reticent to trade back unless our LT or CB or even WR options are exhausted, as well. I really, REALLY want to snag one of the top two LT's if we can't land one of these top 4 QB's. You know, I have long been a fan of Winston but I will say that what happened in New Orleans really gave me pause moving forward. I cannot wrap my head around starting a backup TE and special teams player as your starting QB instead of a guy like Winston. Keep in mind, this was the staff that started Teddy Bridgewater over The Golden Calf of Bristol 2.0 in 2019. That really has me scratching my head. I haven't heard anything about why he is relegated to #3 when he is obviously more talented than Tisom Hebow. I just cannot figure that one out. Wish we heard more about why that was the case.
  2. For sure this is a tangent on the OP. Not what I intended. Yeah, I would never dispute that a lot of these athletes are not making wise financial decisions and they are also not living like there is a tomorrow. It's a big problem and some sports(like the NBA) have done a better job over time about making sure the athletes get the proper financial education that can help them avoid some of these potential pitfalls. But, honestly, I don't think big money athletes are really the exception. I think the majority of regular Americans wouldn't build themselves to have generational wealth and they would just adjust their lifestyle to meet their new income level. I see it happen all the time in my personal life working with people.
  3. I don't think that small wager is the core of why NFL players struggle financially. Plenty of regular folks also make small wagers. Would it be better to take that gambling to a professional casino, like a brokerage or hedge fund? Sure. But it is just something they are doing for fun. Same as any person doing a Super Bowl squares event or an NCAA tournament bracket pool or fantasy football or putting money down on a round of golf. It's a logical leap to assume that is a symptom of a bigger financial irresponsibility problem, although it could be.
  4. I mean....listen, I get that but trading the farm for a POTENTIAL franchise QB isn't really logical. I don't know that I see a lot of teams being THAT level of desperate.
  5. Well, Tepper is on record as saying he is learning this process. He's been pretty transparent about that and Matt Rhule has no basis to know whether Marty is a dolt or not. I think if enough voices in the room are pushing to sign Teddy, Rhule probably is okay with the move. In complete fairness, I don't think many of us thought that Teddy would be bad in the way that he ended up being bad. The risk aversion to an extreme level and the late game choking were just head scratching. I am not sure we could have predicted they would be that bad. And that is coming from a guy that absolutely said he was a game manager at best.
  6. Whoa, whoa. It isn't going to cost three 1st round draft picks to trade up in the 2021 draft. That's just crazy talk. I think someone will end up trading up ahead of us for a QB, so we will at least we will have a hindsight comparison on the "what if" Stafford scenario and the trade up price. Should be interesting to see.
  7. Some people on this forum just find random subjects to interject their personal issues. It's fuging weird as hell.
  8. I really think you are just using this story as an excuse to lash out at athletes rather irrationally. It's their money, they did the hard work to achieve the opportunity to make it, and they can do with it as they see fit.
  9. That is just an example of someone seeing $1000 a week and valuing it in "regular people money" not "getting paid millions" money.
  10. I think that is risky for the Bengals. They want a LT and this draft has two supposedly top tier LT's. Not sure I would gamble on missing the other one of them if one does go before #5. I guess it will depend on what we have to offer and how much they want that LT.
  11. Yeah and that isn't to say that some of that mentality isn't still floating around. Most likely it is given the ages of the front office personnel, coaches and owners involved. But make no mistake, if the new generation of franchise QB's is any indication.....the kind of thought process is gonna end up with your team in the cellar of the NFL.
  12. Lol. So now we get to the core of the issue. You are literally just irrational. Not surprising.
  13. Lol. Context? Dude....your article didn't include the highest paid backup. How they ended up backups is irrelevant.
  14. Soooo....we just keep moving the bar? Didn't you say "ever?" Is ever just whenever you deem it is? Look, this is your hill you want to die on, so I can't fix that. It is just also an argument that isn't holding much weight factually. Totally get the disgust with the past but your argument about Teddy is not factual.
  15. Fun fact, YOUR data is wrong. https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/2020/ This is how research works. Not a Google search of "Highest Paid Backup QB's."
  16. JaMarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Teddy Bridgewater. Those are just the ones I pulled out of my ass. I can keep going. Look, you obviously have an issue with the past. Totally understand that. That isn't the present and future, however.
  17. Sooooo....most of those big backup contracts are for either starting spots or to compete to be a starter. That is how Foles and Glennon end up with big contracts riding the pine. Look, I gave you the data and you don't like it. That isn't something I can fix.
  18. I literally don't care what the number is, nor if you make it up. I will make up the number of $50,000 for the sake of this exercise. I was just going to illustrate that if they had a thousand dollar wager on each game this season(19 total including the Super Bowl), that is $19,000 over the course of this past season. Devin White made $1,827,537 in salary in 2020(not including the bonus he was paid in 2019). If he lost every week, that would be roughly 1% of his income. LeVonte David made $10,750,000 in salary in 2020. If he lost every week that would roughly be 0.17% of his income. For perspective, 1% of $50,000 is $500. Divided over 19 weeks, this would equal $26.32 per week in wagering. 0.17% of $50,000 is $85. Divided over 19 weeks, this would equal $4.47 per week in wagering. So.....how is this an example of them going broke???
  19. I think he is just living in an era of the NFL that is largely over. It was absolutely the case that black QB's carried a stigma for most of the NFL's existence but that tide has turned.
  20. Justin Herbert is immensely talented. Mac Jones has fairly limited NFL talent.
  21. This is good news. CBS Sports mocks are the absolute worst. Their writers are the quality of people that get turned down by Bleacherreport.
