Rapaport: Panthers/ Tepper out of Watson deal
kungfoodude replied to FugginPoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we had good deals waiting for us, they would be on the table. That's what I mean, unless we are getting great offers from other front offices and turning them down. If so, they are getting vetoed somewhere and there isn't much we can do. I think Rhule is safe even at 3-14. I believe he will jettison Brady and then the Rhule hot seat will be cranked to 11 in 2022. I also expect to see the FO and Rhule forced to take a QB in the draft. -

I tend to like Pickett more. In the offense we have, we really need a guy that can process the field and make throws really quickly, especially behind this line. There is bad tape of Willis looking AWFUL when he gets pressured regularly. That is what he would be getting early in his career here. If we had a different offense(which we may in 2022 at this rate) and a better OL, Willis would make some sense. -

Well, the class is very weak but teams are going to gamble because they are QB desperate. Don't be surprised if we aren't one. Honestly, if the Cardinals/Jets scenarios have proven anything, it is that these rookie QB contracts make it easy to pivot. It is much more beneficial to play draft QB roulette until you get the right guy. You can dump them in the first couple of years if they don't pan out. -

Laying down isn't quite that. More like just playing for yourself and not the team. If you stop trying, it reflects poorly on you and is bad for business. If you only give a poo about your production, that is what laying down in professional sports looks like. Basically, "fug this team, I am gonna get mine." That was the latter half of 2019 when everyone involved saw what was coming. That was why you saw Luke getting so upset during the games. -

Yeah, the tape on Willis says 2nd round or later pick to me. Honestly, he looks like a 4th rounder IMO. -

I wouldn't go that far. Panic trading(which is legit what the Watson deal would have been) doesn't help us and the deadline is Nov. 2. We have the offseason to make those decisions and the rest of this season to evaluate players to see if they have a future here. At that point then we can figure out what is worth trading and what we can get. -

Depends on which of "muh sources" you choose to believe. One thing is likely certain, none of the sources are people directly involved. -

100% agree. But, IMO, they will probably draft a QB. I don't think Tepper is gonna bite on a middle tier FA QB signing anymore. I am not sure the FO and coaching staff are gonna have much of an option. Boy, that Browns reference is about to start getting REAL accurate. -

If you consider this "calling out", I mean.....good luck with that. -

The more we look at this, the more I believe it has been the Texans stirring all this up to get Miami to go hard with an offer. Whether the Texans knew or not, now EVERYONE knows that Watson is only going to Miami. The chances of getting the haul they want....pretty much zilch. They have no one else to bid against. I don't know if Watson sexually assaulted any of those 22 women, but he damn sure just sexually assaulted the Houston Texans. -

But in a five year window, we are at the start. Mistakes can be made, lessons can be learned because you are patient and let it all transpire. That ain't what is happening. -

Yeah, this is gonna be something to watch. We may see some of the most comedic Panther moments in history. -

Here is the real fun part, every single player in that locker room pretty much knows what just happened. The franchise saw they made a huge mistake with Darnold and scrambled desperately to remedy it. Now they all know that Darnold is going to be the guy, despite the fact that the organization itself has lost faith in him. Here is what I think, we are gonna see this team start to lay down in the next 4-5 weeks. Get ready to see some 2019 stuff. -

Well, if the overall goal with the team is that five year rebuild that Tepper talked about, none of these are problems. They have five years to figure it out. But....everyone involved appears to have thrown that out the window and want to win yesterday. Cool.....but we didn't choose that option. We chose promising coaches and young players that were going to take time to figure it all out. So, it really isn't the fans that got it confused, it appears to the the owners and the staff that got confused. -

I think, quite honestly, we are learning what the best players think of our current staff and possibly ownership. -

Yep. He doesn't want to come here and Stafford didn't want to come here. Two elite QB's that are avoiding this place. No Bueno. I believe this means moving forward we are a draft only QB option.- 437 replies

Yeah but that doesn't fix his problems with choppy playcalling or not understanding the flow of the game. That takes experience and time. He literally hasn't had that. He needs to be in a spot where he could have learned at a better pace. The NFL is just not it as an active coordinator. -

I think Brady just ascended too quickly and the NFL is not the place to develop. He should have gone to a small school as an OC(preferably under an already established offensive coach), cut his chops there for a couple of years, moved up to OC at a football factory school and then he has 3-5 years of experience and learning. This was just a bridge too far and even Rhule doesn't have enough experience to mentor him on how to do that job effectively. -
Every single one of those guys in that room know Darnold isn't the guy. They work with him day in and day out, they watch film and they see him in the games. They all know he can't do it. So, imagine how tough that is on the sideline to be sitting there KNOWING your QB can't do his job properly but there isn't anything you can do about it. And I very much doubt that they are doing anything but hoping that he CAN but they also have watched and played this game for years. They know more than we do.

Yet we had a staff that "talked themselves into" getting him and a bunch of fans that believe he is the guy. It's telling when NFL experienced announcer after announcer talk about how he is fuging it up during our games but you have dolts like Terry Bradshaw endorsing him. The people that didn't think he was doing the same poo in the first 3 games just weren't paying attention. As Joe pointed out, CMC was covering up a lot of flaws. Which, keep in mind that during those three games CMC was accounting for 22% of Darnold's completions and about 18% of his yardage. That is not an insignificant loss. Same with the "can't see the field" comments. It's so UNBELIEVABLY OBVIOUS this is an issue. And this isn't going to get fixed. This isn't something is likely even fixable!
