  1. Yeah, I brought them up giving examples of why I am not gonna crown Fitterer yet(Gettleman reference) and then proceeded to trash them both. It was Dave's nephew that got all butthurt and decided to come take up the banner of "MY SHITTY GM WAS BETTER!!" Dave Gettleman sucked, he still sucks now. Maybe you can go over to the Giants board and lecture them on how great he was in Carolina. I'm sure they'd love to hear it after their four straight losing seasons. Also, you aren't a Panthers fan, so you are just arguing to argue.
  2. I would be surprised because this staff hasn't done anything that stupid yet. Well.....maybe the drafting a long snapper but I mean more so with the roster. Toting two place kickers is extremely stupid.
  3. I mean, I am not the one dragging out this tired argument for one shitty GM versus the other. Feel free to look back at your original response and see who took up the banner of defense. They both sucked. Not my fault you can't see that.
  4. We also reached the Super Bowl with Marty Hurney as GM. He didn't suck any less because of that happening. We also never had back-to-back winning seasons with either GM. We also shat the bed more often than not in the draft with both GM's. Literally they were both trash. The only people that care about this anymore are the Gettleman fanboys. The rest of the us realize they both sucked, regardless of their highs.
  5. There is a search feature here, Dave. Upper right corner of the screen. Feel free to use it. "Dave Gettleman" + "Marty Hurney." Have fun with your reading about bad GM's and defending their honor.
  6. I get it, you are a fanboy. There is no need to derail this thread with the same tired arguments about two awful GM's. If you are dedicated enough to defending his honor, you could have always jumped ship to the Giants with him. After all, we have some fools here that jumped ship tover Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater, Cam Newton, etc, etc, etc. In the meantime, for the Carolina Panthers, we have a new guy that could be our first good GM. I think it's time Panthers fans got to see what that is like.
  7. Yeah, I get it. Gettleman still has his fanboys for some reason, despite his track record. As an actual Carolina Panthers fan, I don't miss him at all. Glad to have this next stage in our franchise history who will hopefully be much better than what we have had for the past 27 years.
  8. Yep and then we had all the bad years afterwards to see what he really was. Hence why I say it will take a long time for Fitterer to convince me. Hopefully he is the second coming of John Schneider in Seattle. Give me that track record of success with a head coach.
  9. I mean, if you think Gettleman was much better than Marty, all I can say is good luck with that. Fitts should be better than both but if there was anything to be learned from the Gettleman era it was that just because you are different and have early success, doesn't mean you aren't a terrible GM and Gettleman was a terrible GM. Much like Marty Hurney, he proved it even more conclusively in his second stop. Ultimately, this is the argument of sinking versus floating turds that has been rehashed hundreds if not thousands of times across this board. The net result is just how much they stink. I am very encouraged by what I have seen from Fitterer and I like to believe he can't be as bad as they were, but he needs to be better enough to remove him from that conversation entirely and that will take a few years, at least. I absolutely think he can be, I just need him to put up the results to prove it.
  10. As I stated a few times on here, this is probably the most meaningless preseason in franchise history due to the replacement of one preseason game for a regular season game and the shifting of philosophy as a result. Plus, I think this staff is being way more protective of our first string guys than we have ever seen before, so there just really isn't any useful overall data, IMO. At best, we have learned there are some potential bright spots with the draft picks and signings and that our depth quality is still fuging atrocious. I am sure people will try to overanalyze how our starters play this evening against what will likely be an incomplete Steelers squad. It will make for some completely pointless conversations in the 15 days that we will have to kill time before we get any real look at our football team.
  11. I think those decisions also ultimately come down to the coach, even more so in this case because Rhule makes the bulk of these decisions anyway. I don't know that I believe Fitterer walks on water, like some have decided. I know that he doesn't operate the way any GM we have had in team history does. And I'm okay with that. Nice to have a breath of fresh air and hopefully it works out well.
  12. Chinn had never played LB before, but he did last year. The problem wasn't Hurney thinking a player could play another position they hadn't, the problem was that his talent evaluation ability wasn't much deeper than that of a mock draft blogger. Probably less, actually.
  13. Thinking he was going to be better, being better initially and then being just as bad.
  14. As much as I believe that he will be, I am not prepared to say that yet. Dave Gettleman taught me that lesson.
  15. Well......Gettleman had a lot of success with that early but that went down the toilet pretty quickly as his career in Carolina went on. I think that sort of went to his head a little bit.
  16. Who knows? He's definitely a guy that played his entire college career as a LT, so he will be learning a new position since he clearly won't be playing there. We are also converting a UDFA TE from last year to a FB, when he was a WR/TE his entire college career. And we also converted Jeremy Chinn to LB after he played S/CB his entire college career. We still do that stuff and there really isn't anything wrong with doing it. You just can't be as fuging inept at it as Marty Hurney was.
  17. What I like most about Fitterer so far is how quickly he remedies his and others mistakes(Little, Perryman, Slye, Bridgewater). That is his most valuable quality I have seen so far and something very foreign for us as a franchise historically. That bodes well for his success here. Now, that said.....this draft will depend on the success of his 3rd round and later guys. With all the trading, he really has to hit on at least one of those guys to make this draft as good as our fans like to believe it was. I think Horn will eventually get there and Marshall may be there sooner rather than later, so I am less worried about them. With the rest of the offseason, it's all about Darnold, Elflein and Erving. If those guys fail, it was a terrible overall effort. If at least one or two succeed, it was at least partially successful. Perryman was a bust already, so a little bit of a slow start for our dumpster dive candidates. I still think Reddick, Fox and Jones will prove to be valuable additions. Bouye will be another interesting one. If he has anything left in the tank, shrewd signing. If he proves to be over the hill, that will be another dumpster dive miss that probably impacts our effectiveness in 2021. So, lots of potential for greatness and lots of potential to show he isn't the savior we had hoped. It's gonna be a wild ride in 2021.
  18. We actually just did that with Brady Christensen.
  19. The food....likely Mediterranean themed(TBD). The beer......ooof.....too many to list. Let's just say a who's who list of BA stouts, barleywines, lambics, etc. Can't wait for tomorrow's beer shits!
  20. Last I heard they were sitting a bunch of folks. That may have changed. It really doesn't matter. If we get blasted by their starters or we blast their starters.....it's completely irrelevant. The only thing of value is watching some of the players get their individual reps and battle for spots on the depth chart(or roster). The results are completely meaningless otherwise.
  21. I am going to be doing a big bottle share at a local brewery, so the whalez are about to be popped. 2018 Handjee, Barrel Aged Adjunct Trail, HOMES Birkin series, all kinds of goodies stacked up.
