Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is
kungfoodude replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
He has rarely been aggressive enough to be considered a gunslinger type player. The guy he is describing is Pat Mahomes-esque and I doubt any of us see that in Bryce. When the play is breaking down or he bails on the play, how often are we really seeing him laser it into a tight window? How about scramble long enough to get someone breaking free and then hitting them? I remember that far less, although I am not sitting down to look at all 2.5 years of data, than I am checkdowns, throw aways, off target passes, scrambles, etc. -
I think Egbuka is a very polished guy, for sure. TMac has some refinement that needs to happen. His ceiling is probably higher than Egbuka's but for that to matter you have to eventually reach it. I definitely don't have buyers remorse on TMac. Great pick.

He would be ahead of a good chunk of the backup QB's we see struggling at the moment but starter vs. starter it is really hard to get too many guys that you wouldn't rather have the other guy in a one game scenario. I can understand the ample reasons to not want guys like Flacco and Rodgers at their ages but if you just base it on this roster and one game to win....I would rather have both of those guys. Expand that to the rest of the league and it quickly becomes obvious where Bryce is. -

Yeah, AT was really the only guy making those plays. In fairness, I don't think Bryce is throwing that many 50/50 balls, either. Per NFL Next Gen, he has been in the bottom quarter, top quarter and middle of the pack in his three years in terms of Aggressiveness%(defined as throwing with a defender within 1 yard of the receiver). Bryce is a chunk of the problem, without question, but his receivers haven't been making elite plays, for sure. XL has been completely absent and TMac has dropped some very catchable balls. Even Renfrow has not been snagging almost any of those 50/50 balls. I will say that other QB's(young and old) have struggled with the same issues but few are struggling as mightily as Bryce seems to be. -

Eh....I mean by just about every metric you can muster up he is in the bottom quarter of the NFL since coming into the league. It's been bad overall. Definitely some high points but the low points have been too frequent. -

His situational awareness just seem to randomly flip off for reasons unknown. That has definitely plagued his career to date. I am less worried about this physical abilities than I am his consistent issues with his throwing base and his decision making issues. Both of those seem correctable on the surface but that progress has been very slow. He is a guy I thought of as a heady, intelligent QB so to see him struggle with some relatively fundamental things is perplexing. -
How about draft elite guards? Even then when you have to eventually pay them, you got 4 years of dirt cheap play to balance out that later cap hit.

It is funny to be professing we all know nothing but then tout ones time at a place that literally has him ranked in the bottom quarter of starting QB's. It's wild. -

Yeah, I don't want to keep dragging this nonsensical racial element into it but most of the league's biggest QB stars are black QB's. This isn't the 80's/90's or even 2000's. The bulk of NFL fans TODAY just want a MFer who is good at their job and can play at a high level. Now college football.....that poo still has a LOT of what he was talking about. Especially in SEC land. Heard it personally even in recent times. -
Jax has a platoon of very capable pass rushers and Dallas does not. I think that played the biggest role in that difference you saw in Niman. Make no mistake, he will get carved up by top end pass rushers. But, someone has to start so give him some help the best way you can and roll on.

His happy feet are reminiscent of David Carr. -
So XL shouldn't have expectations but McConkey didn't seem to struggle with that. How is TMac doing versus expectations? How about Ricky Pearsall? Keon Coleman? Xavier Worthy? How about there are 15 rookies from the 2025 draft that have out produced XL in 2025? How do you explain a year under his belt getting less production that 15 fuging rookie WR's. But, no....tell us about how we just need to be patient. Because that really worked out well for Mingo and TMJ, after all.

This thread is turning into bizarro world. Most of the anti-Bryce crowd was heavily pro CJ Stroud so I am confused how that ties into any racial element. Not saying we still don't have some of that crowd in here but it's not like the Prime Cam years where this place was rife with those types. The anti-Bryce sentiment SEEMS to MOSTLY be rooted in his underwhelming physical stature/abilities and/or his underwhelming overall career to date. All this being amplified by the massive trade haul we gave away for him. So, technically we have missed the opportunity to draft Jaden Daniels AND passed on CJ Stroud. Fairly or not, Bryce hasn't measured up to those type of players at all. -

That's an interesting theory. He did come back REALLY quickly from that AC joint sprain. He did also have medicals with us and other teams so I guess if that was the case, no obvious long term damage was found. -

It's always the biggest crybabies that are threatening to take their ball and go home too. Well....go then, MFer. This place will still exist. -
While being tied for 3rd on the team in targets. WHILE missing games. The one thing the XL stans better not say is that we "didn't give him a chance." That dude is getting more targets through 20 career games(104 targets, 5.2/GM) than Mingo(4.7/GM in 24 games) and TMJ(3.1/GM in 36 games) ever did. All this while barely out producing them.

He is the president of the Huddle TMac fan club so he is a bit oversensitized to something that isn't even remotely offensive in the slightest. I don't really like when people call me by my last name but in various work settings, it happens all the time. I don't get my panties in a bunch over it.

It's hard to say. He comes off as an elite CB/WR ish diva on occasion. But it is hard to say if that extends to his interactions with teammates. Personally he just comes off as the weird goth kid to me.

Not a chance. The Tet Offensive will still be in my game day vocabulary.
