He's worlds better than what we have but he'd be nuts to step into this situation.
-
Well, unless something drastic happens in the next 50 minutes, this will have been a rather quiet end to the trading period.
-
Oh we'll need an OL if we have Baker, a journeyman QB, a rookie QB or even this dumpster fire of a QB we currently have.
-
Inevitably, QB desperate teams will end up overdrafting from this weak crop. Happens every year.
-
What is this something? I haven't seen it yet.

It's funny that someone in another thread was talking about wanting another Jake Delhomme, well guess who Baker Mayfield's career stats look a lot like? Baker Mayfield(53 games): 62.5% completion percentage, 241.8 Pass Yards/GM, 81 TD, 46 INT, 4.7 TD%, 2.7 INT% Jake Delhomme(first 61 games as a Panther): 59.6% completion percentage, 218.5 Pass Yds/GM, 89 TD, 58 INT, 4.8 TD%, 3.1 INT%

Oooof. Not in.
-
Baker Mayfield is better than every QB in this draft. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
-
Nonsense. PJ will be running the option with us. 66 runs, 14 passes(2 INT's, 2 completions) on Sunday.

Advanced Passing Stats Through 8 Games(2020 vs. 2021)
kungfoodude replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes, his clean pocket problems have been well documented over his career. So, while we can all agree pressure gets to any QB, the damning thing is that with Darnold his career pressured stats have always been better than his clean pocket stats. That isn't good. He can't process what he is seeing, he doesn't throw accurately and he plays worse when things are going well for him. That isn't new either, it was the same for 3 years with the Jets. None of this is a surprise, he has literally mirrored his performances with the Jets here in Carolina. -

I was anti-Teddy and anti-Darnold prior to them ever playing a game here. Largely because they had never shown that they were more than they showed they were here. Teddy had a "career" year with us, as a very middling below average starter and Darnold is continuing to be the worst QB in the NFL, something he was FOR THREE STRAIGHT YEARS. That is why the bulk of my frustration is with Matt Rhule and his complete lack of understand what an even competent QB looks like. Need more evidence?? PJ fuging Walker. How in the hell is he even on the roster? How does he beat out Will Grier? How the hell do you not have a better option than that?? -
Can he play QB? LT? OG? C?
-
I believe Simms mentioned it once already too. It's telling that former players are mentioning how he is leading his receivers into trouble. He's already gotten one KO'ed and almost another.
-
I was a big supporter of getting Winston, as well. He was a much smarter option. IMO, we can keep Darnold but he needs to be the #2 QB. Like you said, he is already on the books for an obscene sum of money. So go get a decent veteran QB(Taylor, Heinicke, Brissett, etc) to actually start and NOT actively hurt the team while we let our defense carry the load and hopefully start the OL rebuild in earnest. I wouldn't set a hard limit at $2 mil. I am okay with a $2-6 mil QB on a one year deal. That's peanuts for a starting QB.

Advanced Passing Stats Through 8 Games(2020 vs. 2021)

I am trying to find the PFR OnTarget% stats but I can't seem to dig them up. I think the next best thing would be NFL Next Gen Stats Expected Completion Percentage, which Darnold would be sitting at -5.1%, 33rd in the NFL currently. -
IMO, the biggest harm done with those decisions was the amount of money given up for Teddy, the draft picks given up for Darnold, the 5th year option for Darnold and the complete and utter lack of any sort of backup QB option or competition in 2020 or 2021. So, the choice to get those guys wasn't really as big of a deal as they decisions they made getting those guys. Jameis Winston was a $2 mil deal, Cam Newton a $2 mil deal, Mitch Trubisky $2.5 mil, etc, etc. So, if you are going to gamble, you gamble safe and on something that you aren't investing vast resources in. Rhule and Co. jumped in with both feet with the confidence of a complete idiot with each of these decisions. Like I said, I have no problem bringing in someone like Tyrod Taylor on a 1 year, $5.5 mil deal(which Houston did) because the harm is limited long term. Same with taking a guy like Davis Mills to have a backup option available. Those are moves that make sense in the short and long term. What we did in 2020 and 2021 made absolutely no sense. I don't want to tank for a top 5 pick. I like the talent available there but tanking over and over just typically leads to more tanking. Get a decent QB, build the OL and the rest of the roster and wait to get your guy in free agency, via trade or through the draft when you have a good roster ready to win now.

Erving's "effort" on the play that got Sam hurt
kungfoodude replied to trueblade's topic in Carolina Panthers
Supposedly Teddy was good in the locker room too but I think they both suffer from the same thing, everyone in that locker room knows they can't do their job properly. I would imagine that makes it pretty tough to suit up every Sunday knowing the biggest piece of the puzzle just can't get it done. But, back to the OL......I know that BC had a rough 4th quarter in his solo start, but I'd rather see him get more reps in this new rushing attack than Erving's lazy ass. -

You have an unhealthy Darnold obsession. It's as equally as weird as your Cam Newton hatred. I've never seen such a dichotomy of loving such a truly awful player yet hating the best player in franchise history. It's REAL weird, man. -

How he is still playing amazes me. The coaches see this every time he plays yet they trot him back out there. -

The most fire I have seen in a Panthers QB recently was probably Kyle Allen. But, I am also comparing them to Cam Newton who wore his emotions on his sleeve. But, in fairness, not every great QB was a fiery leader. -
I bet that dude gets his day ruined by this board all the time. It is absolutely hilarious.

I wish we had a 3rd round pick for Fletcher Cox. Sign me up for that. His contract is insanely cheap for 2022 and 2023.

I suspect by the time we have a real quarterback we will have a new head coach. -

It's funny for one of the worst QB's in franchise history to have ardent fans. I don't remember this with Clausen. -

Let's see how he typically has fared. 2021 Bad Throw %: 18.5 Pressure %: 27.7 2020 Bad Throw %: 18.5 Pressure %27.5 2019 Bad Throw %: 17.8 Pressure %: 28.0 2018 Bad Throw %: 19.3 Pressure %: 19.8 Looks like while his Pressure % has a 8.2 point span, his Bad Throw % only has a 1.5 point span. He is remarkably similar across the board. Makes me wonder how that compares to other bust QB's in similar situations. David Carr, Mitch Trubisky, etc.
