I mean, some of that list would still be top 10 teams with all their 2nd string playing. Alabama has definitely had years like that. Almost all the "bust" USC QB's were from an era when USC was unbelievably dominant in recruiting. All those guys had NFL caliber players around them almost every snap. So, that is probably why you see some of those players struggle at the next level. Everyone is good in the NFL. Worst versus 32nd is a pretty small gap.

Stafford has better arm talent, IMO. Palmer is dramatically underappreciated for how good he was. I would take him 10 times out of 10 times over someone like Eli Manning.

Don't necessarily agree. Alabama QB's get the same shade. I would argue that's because the talent disparity in college football is so insane. USC, Alabama and OSU routinely field All-Star casts of talent across the entire spectrum of the team that goes 2+ deep. That does make it a LOT easier to shine and look great. 90+% of the year you are just plain out talenting the other teams in front of you.

Hence the assistant to an assistant. We think Fitterer might have more power but until that is official, he is technically an assistant GM to Rhule. Yeah, on paper this offseason seemed good but outside the OL signings, a lot of the guys everyone thought were good signings last offseason failed. Reddick was literally the only one that panned out. So, I will definitely withhold judgement. Especially since, on paper, our defensive line signings don't look nearly as impressive as last season.

We will see. I have yet to see a good Matt Rhule era FA signing aside from Reddick. Which, he only stuck around for a year, so how good was that really? Not sure I could throw any of this blame on Dan Morgan, though. He is an assistant to an assistant. He isn't making these calls.

Yeah, Darnold didn't have years of prepping for this. He was an accidental QB. He would be in his 30's to even catch the amount of reps that Trevor has had to date. He's just far behind the curve and he really hasn't shown the ability to develop. In hindsight, he probably should have stayed in college all four years. Perhaps he could have learned enough to help his development. But then again, maybe he would have ended up a late round pick and he wouldn't be financially secure. So, maybe it worked out the best for Sam Darnold in the end.

Yep. And eventually no matter the talent level, you will stop getting people believing in you. This is probably Sam's last year he can prove anything to anyone. He isn't going to get another shot at signing a starting QB contract again if he doesn't put it all together in 2022.

I really have to disagree with the first part of that statement. You rarely accidentally become a Pro Bowler. It's definitely not common. Players who lack desire to be great or general love for football don't typically enjoy very long or successful careers.

I think that's really a TBD at the moment. Given our free agent moves in recent years, it's hard to get very excited about what the pro scouting department has done. Same with our college scouting department, given the rather uneven performances of most of our draft picks. But the question is whether that's those departments struggling or our GM/Head Coaches? The results definitely have been subpar overall. At least so far.

Yeah, Richardson must have really worn out his welcome amongst the owners or there was a lot worse stuff that never surfaced. Snyder is making Richardson's sins look petty in comparison.

If the NFL wants to get rid of him, I am quite sure the evidence is all there. I suspect very few of these owners don't have ample skeletons in their closet. Snyder's appears to be a walk-in, however.

Yeah, you really have to be wary of any Alabama or Ohio State QB, TBH. But there are a lot of other potentially elite guys with exceptional potential. Tyler Van Dyke, KJ Jefferson, Phil Jurkovec, the Fresno St. kid, Anthony Richardson, Grayson McCall, etc, etc. It definitely has a lot of potential, but will it be realized? I think right now it's largely regarded as a better class than the 2022 class was, even a year out. But that 2022 class took a pretty big tumble when the season was played.

Willis isn't gonna be ready to play for a while, if he ever is. Tannehill is a far better QB even if he is a borderline game manager. Like you said, idle speculation. I will say that I don't think Tannehill would have much more success(if any) here over Mayfield/Jimmy G. The gulf between those guys isn't especially large.

Hence my statement. These aren't new allegations but they are conveniently coming to light now that he has drawn the ire of the NFL. I would wager that isn't a coincidence.

Most of this is not new. I suspect the NFL was not pleased at the reports of him hiding money and now they are airing his dirty laundry.

I don't think anyone actually buys that. Probably not even Matt Rhule buys that.

The season is only 17 games long. You don't have to suffer that much if it goes the way it has the past couple of years. Also, the weather stays nice outside for most of the football season in NC. Always plenty of other activities.

Yeah, if there aren't meaningful improvements SOMEWHERE, I just don't see how this isn't any easy thing to blow up in the offseason. But, I'm not David Tepper either. I do actually somewhat understand what I am looking at on the football field.

Yeah. anything better than average means we really did well in that trade. Was a little disappointed he didn't look that good last year but hopefully he can get it together. He has a lot less pressure being a 3rd round pick here than the top 10 pick he was in Jacksonville.

Yeah, we will see. I wasn't impressed with last season. I know everyone oohed and aahed over him being better than Cam Erving but that's not a great bar for success. It would be nice if he developed somewhere or at least grew into a solid backup player. We need to get that OL better ASAP. It will be interesting to see the battles between BC, Jordan, Bozeman and Corbett(and maybe Mays) for those three starting spots.

Yeah, I don't really have any idea where this notion that Lance isn't coming along well or that the 49ers are experiencing buyers remorse is coming from. That seems to be a pretty well run organization at the moment, so I kind of doubt they would be as gung-ho to go down the Trey Lance route if he is going to be a disaster. I don't think he really has to accomplish that much to be an improvement over Jimmy G.

I haven't decided if I want to attend games this season or not(assuming I have time anyway). If we decide to not have Darnold start and we see Corral/Baker/Jimmy G....I might come out for a game or two. I suspect selling tickets at face will be a lot more challenging this season.

I believe that would be "second year player" Trey Lance. Also....where are these reports about Trey Lance struggling in 2022?
