I like Donte too but not at the price he is likely to command.

Then put that tape on side by side with Willis versus any P5 team. I like Willis a lot. IMO, he is probably the guy I would personally take in this draft. For SURE not in the first round, though.

QB situation getting worse for the Panthers.

Have you actually looked at their career winning percentage? -

Pretty sure we have never won a scrimmage against other NFL teams or probably even against ourselves. -

Name one Matt Rhule season with more than 5 wins. I'll wait. -

At least there appears to be some logic and not panic to what we are supposedly doing. -
I was one of the few very down on the 2021 draft. I liked the 2020 draft but the 2021 draft was just so bad. We intentionally avoided starter after starter and largely took luxury or depth guys. It was maddening to watch. I hope I am wrong but I have a big fear that will be one of those drafts that will get looked back on as a big reason why a lengthy struggle ensued.

Agreed but you can't use that as the basis for Carroll being "overrated." I mean, they were the second most successful team in the NFL during his era as head coach. 8 of 12 seasons at 10+ victories, only 3 seasons with a losing record(never less than 7 wins). I am not making an argument for him being an all time great but you don't accidentally win all those games in the NFL. This isn't college football.

I love his work ethic. I think he has the mindset to be great in the NFL. But it has yet to be realized so it's just potential at this point. And the other elite CB from that draft.....played that way. So does it move the needle? TBD.

Wilson was a big part of the length of success but don't forget their SB berths were largely on the backs of having arguably the most talented roster in the NFL. Defensively amazing, maybe the best RB in the NFL.....I like Wilson but he wasn't the sole reason for their success.

I wish I could enjoy that level of positivity about the direction but I see what is pretty obviously apparent. It isn't just we the fans, you see all the anonymous quotes from other franchise employees that talk about how much of a mess we are. So for all the chaos and mayhem we see, imagine what people in their networks are hearing. If it makes you sleep better at night to ignore it, it's a free country but I think all the warning signs are there. I had a lot of hope for Rhule and I thought we were ahead of schedule after 2020 but as 2021 progressed, the truth became rather obvious.

I actually don't want Wagner. He is a "win now" piece and will either want to chase rings or a payday. Chasing rings he can't do here and I don't want expensive veterans chasing one last big payday. That's how you end up in cap hell. Ask Marty Hurney.

I don't think Carroll was overrated. I think he just didn't adjust to the current era of the NFL. Which, he's 70....that is understandable.

I don't believe that. I had Snyder vibes very early on with Tepper and I warned that was possible. The more time passes, the more I see it. Love or hate JR, he played professional football. He knew professional football. This dude.....knows absolutely nothing. Which, that doesn't mean he can't succeed but it is hard when you see him make so many Snyder/Jones-esque mistakes. I also don't believe in this roster. Our issues go well beyond just a QB and OL, although they are by far the biggest ones. The fact that our run defense has been mediocre to terrible isn't an accident. We don't have the players to make this scheme successful in that area. It's debatable if this scheme will ever be particularly successful at stopping the run. Our secondary has some hope but that is hanging by a razor's edge. If Jackson and Gilmore are gone, we are back to almost square one. Horn, who may be great and a bunch of guys that are question marks or JAGS. At safety we have Chinn but it may take him a while to be great as a well rounded safety in the NFL. And that isn't even touching the issues with our pass rushers. This isn't a complete team. It is a team that is very close to being a bottom five roster in the NFL. It wouldn't take much for it to head in that direction. It takes a lot of things going well for it to be a top 12 roster.

I will wait until it leaves the Twitter verse and gets to some journalists with more NFL/Panthers connections before I just off the cliff yet. And, don't get me wrong, love Watson the player but paying a king's ransom for a guy that may be out of football for a while would be next level stupid. They better know something we don't if this does happen. They better know this was all BS or he is gonna get off with a mild punishment or something. And that is not even diving into the level of character situation that the fans will have to tolerate. I am not the "trial by media" type of dude but the amount of smoke there.....woof.

Good to great? This isn't gonna age well.....

Wilson elevates the team quite a bit but it wasn't like QB was the one thing keeping them from being a contender like the Rams. Which, I hope they aren't able to out it together. fug the Broncos.
-
If this happens.....we are a laughingstock for a long time. Sean Gilbert, step aside.
-
That is ultimately the problem with ownership driven issues. It isn't hard for the WTFs/Foreskins/Rocketeers to be successful, but it is with Dan Snyder in charge.
-
Honestly, yeah. I think we are too. There is a small shred of hope somewhere in me that thinks maybe with a new coach it will all be better but the warning signs are all there. Talented depleted roster, bad salary cap decisions and bad contracts, poor roster decisions, poor drafting, and worst of all......meddling, dumb fug owner. Everything is there to make us a cellar dweller for decades.
-
Tepper wants the impossible, to make this attractive to an elite QB like Stafford, Watson, Wilson, etc. It just isn't gonna happen. You need to build something players believe in first and we are failing miserably at that. We have no real option for finding an elite QB other than the draft. That's it. Now, on a weirdly positive note, we should be seeing top 5-10 picks for quite some time, so as long as we don't squander more opportunities, we will have a lot of shots to get a guy. Whether we have a team that will allow them to make us successful, who knows?
-
Safety is a second need? On the Panthers??? Damn. You are stupid.

Are the Broncos following the Rams formula?
kungfoodude replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The difference is that Denver wasn't already a competitive team. They are talented but not good. LA was only a couple of years removed from a SB appearance, were competitive and insanely talented. Wilson makes then a SB contender but I don't think I would consider them a favorite. -
Our path is far worse, unfortunately. While they didn't get much in terms of compensation, at least they got something. Losing Cam and trying to replace him has only cost us more and more. All this while we very intentionally stripped almost all talent from the roster. As bad as it will be as a Seahawks fan, they got a title and an amazing run while they go back to square one. We are sliding back ever further into the Bengals/Browns/Jets category of ineptitude.
