That's what great players do. I don't think we have many players on our roster who have the passion to lead and be great players.
-
Slater was the correct choice for us, IMO. I don't think that has anything to do with how good Horn will be as a player, however. Everything about him indicates he will be a great NFL player in time.

I am a little bit afraid that Marshall might end up being a flat out bust. I get that we have issues at QB but he was really underwhelming. I hated the pick(OL stan) but liked the player, so I am a little surprised he didn't flash more in 2021. But, I think taking a WR at 6 would be a very Matt Millen-esque move. We have so many critical needs at positions that adding a top 10 pick WR to a WR corps with a lot of committed money just doesn't make any sense. Even less so considering we don't have a QB. Now, if we traded a QB, I might be persuaded with an argument but as it stands right now, WR is not a dire need nor makes much sense.

Yeah, a pick like Davis is a trade down scenario.
-
I don't disagree. I think a 2nd would have to be a team looking specifically for what he brings and with plenty of cap space. That may not even exist at the moment.
-
Yeah bit you are interjecting your opinion on what they will do rather than what they might do. I don't think you can pin at least 3-4 of those teams to even a specific position at this point.

If you listen to Mike Wahle talk on recent episodes of The 4 Man Rush, he basically says that the time they have to work on fundamentals is extremely, extremely limited. That stuff has to be player driven, they have to out in that work on their own. That is why it is so much more critical to be getting "finished products" from an NFL Draft rather than extremely raw material, no matter how talented. That's why some of our draft picks are so fuging stupid. You get a guy like BC because he tests well athletically but you think he is a guard. You pass on a guy like Slater because he has "short arms" despite watching film and seeing what a great player he is. That's another reason I don't have much faith in BC. He was selected by these dopes for high school recruit reasons, not NFL draftee reasons.

Yeah and that was sort of always the direction it was headed once we inked that deal. You don't take a position with such low value in the NFL and expect to be able to gain much in draft value. Honestly, when was the last RB to get traded for a first round draft pick?

I think it is way too soon to be making assumptions about what those teams are gonna do with their picks. I don't think some of them are sure what direction they are going in.

[Sheena Quick] Panthers interested in Eric Fisher

She isn't a fan, she is a "reporter." Those guys aren't gonna fan particularly hard because it's a job, not a passion. -
Yep. And that so frequently happens at the RB position. It is a high mileage and short career span position. Guys like Peterson and Gore are extreme outliers.

I think Campen will help but he isn't gonna mold Daley or Erving or Elflein or Miller or whatever bum off the street into great players. Those coaches matter but not as much as fans think. They have a limited amount of time to work with these guys, so being a good player or great player is largely gonna be on the players themselves. They have to put in the work and do what is necessary to get better on THEIR time. Reference all the Horn videos of him constantly training or him going to train with other elite DB's. Reference Peyton Manning working with David Cutcliffe in the offseason. Reference the videos of guys like Larry Fitzgerald or OBJ's offseason training work. That is what makes great players, that drive to be the best. Coaches aren't going to mold JAGS in to Pro Bowlers.

He is a great pass receiving RB....as a RB. If you try to make him a utility player then he immediately becomes less of a threat to a defense. You take away his most valuable tool, which is that he is a great runner.
-
Unless we get a pretty decent haul in draft capital, there isn't a great reason to get rid of him in 2022. He is the best offensive weapon at RB in the NFL if he can stay healthy. So see if he stays healthy and if he can't, just cut your losses and take the lesson about signing RB's to massive deals. We did something stupid and we paid the price. If not, and he is healthy for a whole year, then you once again have a core member of the franchise.

[Sheena Quick] Panthers interested in Eric Fisher

Yeah, he was actually a Pro Bowler his rookie year, although it was as an injury replacement. -
BC is best suited to being a backup OT, IMO. I don't think he is a starting caliber player at all. As a third rounder, that's fine. We could have done a lot better than him but that was our infatuation with the idea of "versatility" without that actually being the case. Had he been very versatile in college, I would have agreed with that assessment, given that he is an above average athlete. Ideally, I am just wrong and he is at least an average LT or can eventually play other positions at an average or better level. I would just personally bet against either of those scenarios happening.

Yeah, that's what they are all angling for. Trying to get a cushy job at a real sports media outlet. -
Ya know what's nice about the Bozeman signing?
kungfoodude replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, that is a little bit of a head scratcher. Well, even if he does prove to be a failure, the price was cheap so I don't hate the move either way. -
Yeah, BC is not in the same class as guys like Neal, Ekwonu or Cross. Not to mention, Neal or Ekwonu could be top 10 OG's as their floor versus a guy like BC who literally is unlikely to be able to play at an NFL level at any other position than OT.
-
Positional value is very high for an elite pass rusher so, I don't agree with you there. Safety is different. I like Hamilton but it makes zero sense for us to take a player like at 6 that with the needs we have.
-
I don't think many teams would part with a 1st for him. Not many want a RB salary at $8-12 mil for that length of time(4 years). Then you have even fewer that value RB's at a 1st round grade. Early second is mostly dumpster fire teams, so I am not sure how many of them would need a RB or want a RB-centric offense. I don't think we are actively shopping him, though. I think we are just willing to listen to offers.

[Sheena Quick] Panthers interested in Eric Fisher

She seems to be pretty well connected but she doesn't filter much. She is less a traditional sports journalist but more akin to the modern era social media "reporters" that clamor to be the first to report anything(despite being inaccurate often). That's why social media "reporting" sucks so badly. Being first means more credibility and more clicks. People don't care if the info is wrong. First is the most important. Ian Rappoport is really the same way, TBH. -
His value is already minimal in a trade scenario and the cap hit isn't worth any draft capital we gained(likely a 2nd rounder, at best). If he gets injured again next season and misses significant time, then I would say trade him for whatever you can get(5th, 6th, etc).
-
Hamilton? After just investing in another safety? So we want an all safety defense?
-
Yeah, I think Rhule can battle through a tough race with Atlanta to finish last in the NFC South. He has shown me he is capable.
