Is 6 wins progress? 7? What is your baseline for him keeping a job?

Baker Could Be our “Brees”
kungfoodude replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, that could all come crashing down if this OL doesn't gel or perform well. It's a top 3 concern for me headed into the season. -
Eh.....I'm on the fence. You want a fiery, confident player(like vintage Cam or Jake) but you gotta be careful about putting up too much bulletin board material. I think I lean mostly "much ado about nothing."
-
If it gets too out of hand, they will tell them to chill. They did that with the increased emphasis on OL holding during the COVID season. It was bad thr first few weeks and so the league said to chill TF out.
-
Agreed. It was so fuging ridiculous. They already make it fuging hard enough to defend.
-
Well they supposedly outlawed the pick/rub plays that were so popular. So perhaps this is the counter to that. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out this season.

Panthers official unofficial depth chart is now out !!!

I really hope it wasn't that simple. Although apparently Phil Snow saying Darnold looks like Matt Stafford was enough to go after him. I think TMJ is injury prone and the fact that he cannot get separation at the NFL level is not gonna bode well for his future. He is supposedly a 4.4 sec guy but I haven't seen any indication of that kind of speed at all. -

I have no idea what the deal is with Marshall. If we don't see any real production out of him this season(similar to last year), I suspect we just move on in the offseason. -
I mean....we don't own the team. He owns the team. It's his franchise to do whatever he wishes with it. You wouldn't go to your local Amazon warehouse and demand they reorganize the shelves and apologize to you, right? I don't care about any apologies. I don't get to take the "I'm sorry" tokens and cash them in for NFL wins.

The Amazon Prime series really hurt his reputation with the fans. But he did earn his reputation as being very immature.

I wouldn't be quick to elevate a rookie that had some very obvious flaws in college above some very productive journeymen. Smith is talented but he is raw as hell. He strikes me as a longer term project. Wilson and Littleton are very solid players, if unspectacular. -
No. He isn't required to admit he made that mistake or any mistake. I don't need to see him prostrate himself before the fans and beg forgiveness, I just need him to hire a good fuging coaching that leads us to winning football again.

STO over Taylor is easily the biggest surprise. Maybe Taylor gets the Nixon treatment next offsesson? -
Pretty sure she just has one source that isn't even with the Panthers, IIRC. People give way too much credit and way too much blame to her for the info she posts. It's interesting to hear her rumor mill info, IMO. I just don't take it as the gospel because it's just one source. That's just her opinion on Nixon which is just as valid as anyone else's. That doesn't need any source.
-
It's really unlikely he is going to work out after being out on the PS. Not impossible but very improbable. Maybe with another team at some point but that also doesn't seem very likely now.
-
Yeah, IDK if I have seen enough of him to say he is NFL caliber or not. The fact that he made it through waivers and currently sits on the PS probably isn't a great thing.
-
Yeah, you would literally need a staff to gather that data. I generally like going down these rabbit holes but I ain't touching that one. That is a SHITLOAD of work to verify that claim.
-
Dude....I quite literally pasted their methodology from the article. I can read it. That's why I called it suspect. Did you base that off just reading the title????
-
Yeah that claim is looking pretty suspect. There is zero reason to put him on the PS if we really didn't think he was an NFL caliber player.
-
Well you for certain do not "know" this because you haven't given the data required to make that claim. I definitely believe you think that but I am not gonna jump into that hole without having any data. That isn't a gut feeling statement. If you had said we "PROBABLY have one of the faster rosters" in the NFL, I could buy that. I am definitely not buying from anything you provided that we are the fastest NFL roster.
-
I looked. Cool article but it's not telling you what you think it is telling you. I would never claim us to be the fastest roster in the NFL because that's a wildly difficult thing to even verify. Especially with 53 people on each roster. Do I think we target fast and athletic players? Certainly so. More so than previous coaches seemed to.
-
Yeah, I just read through that and the methodology leaves a LOT to be desired. It's a cool concept for an article but I don't think it's telling you what you think it is saying. Method: We found players' average yards covered per second by computing their five top speeds -- run and pass plays only -- recorded during the 2020 and 2021 seasons (through Week 6), using player-tracking data from NFL Next Gen Stats. Team, unit and position group speed were calculated with the top three WRs, two TEs, two RBs, two QBs, four DBs and 2 LBs from each team according to weighted average of top speed and snap count. Offense speed was weighted with 45% WR, 25% TE, 20% RB and 10% QB, while defense speed was weighted with 70% DB and 30% LB. Team speed is 50% offense and 50% defense. And lastly, players who changed teams count toward their current roster, and they must have made an appearance this season to factor in.
