It's also a comparison of a #2 WR versus a slot/multi-use guy. There is no chance could bring in Samuel to replace Robby because Samuel is literally not a #1 or #2 WR. He's nothing like that. Frankly, they could very easily co-exist on the same offense.

That's not accurate. Take a look at Samuel's 2020 season versus Robby's 2021 season. Curtis Samuel Robby Anderson So, as you can see, Samuel performed better in almost all categories. Catch percentage(massive disparity), YDs/Catch, Drop %, YAC/R, etc. This on less targets, as well. And SIGNIFICANTLY less playing time. Robby was on the field for 85% of all offensive snaps, whereas Samuel was only on the field for 68% of snaps. So for Samuel to outproduce him as much as he did from being a slot receiver/multi-use player, that's pretty bad. However, this isn't a very fair comparison at it's core, because we are comparing a player's literal best season in his career versus a player's literal worst season in his career.

Spending wildly in free agency isn't how you build a team, it's how you elevate a built team to the next level. Even with the cap being smoke and mirrors, the backbone of your franchise needs to be a pool of cheap and elite talent that you draft initially. That gives you a few years to build a franchise on the backs of much cheaper labor. Once you start handing out those second contracts to your guys(which we already have), you need to be winning and contending before you start going for broke on mass free agent signings. That is how you attract top players that want to win. Success as a team brings that. The Panthers aren't in that position. We are regarded as one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL and we haven't had a winning record in 4 seasons. Why would any quality free agent want to come here(and they haven't)? So, without that we are left paying vastly over market value just to attract those players(which won't work on all of them). That's also historically how bad teams stay bad for a long time. We are basically where we should be. Building through the draft to a winning team. Once that core is built and winning starts(not under Rhule, quite obviously), then you start to make those splash free agency signings. When we are an attractive spot to make a Super Bowl run.

He'd probably be wise to do a 1 year "prove it" deal in a scenario that is set up for success. Which, admittedly that isn't here

Good point. We throw shade about the contracts but Suleiman is technically the guy hammering those out. We've even seen videos of him doing it on previous Panthers Confidential episodes.

Yeah, I am not putting my eggs in the Rhule getting canned basket anymore. Tepper might be dumb enough to keep him anyway. I would just rather have a season of something I am mildly interested in.

I don't have any fear of Baker messing up Corral. I don't think Matt is going to be made or broken by whoever is on the roster with him. I'd much rather watch Baker or Jimmy G for a season than Darnold. Even if the results aren't spectacularly better, I am just tired of seeing Darnold play here. We know what he is. It's not fun to watch the same stupid poo over and over.

I'd rather just see Corral for 17 games. No more Darnold. I don't have an issue with a cheap Baker or Jimmy G but solely on a one year deal. If possible, completely forbidden from resigning/extending them until April 2023.

I'm very skeptical of Fitterer and a lot of his moves but it's really hard to evaluate him when he is just a "Junior GM" to Rhule. It will be interesting to see how Fitterer fares once Rhule is fired.

There is no telling at this point. If it doesn't happen soon, it's gonna be a whole other can of worms, as well.

I don't think we passed on Watson, we just balked at the 100% guaranteed contract, which was probably Tepper more than Fitterer, if I had to guess. You could be right though. We will never know.

I mean.....I don't really believe in any QB taken that far down the draft and especially in a class that weak. But if he even became an average NFL starter, that isn't a home run, it's a grand slam. That would make Fitterer look amazing.

The difference is/was about a decade of experience. Hence why I went with the experience.

Not to mention, Fitt was literally hand selected by Rhule and Tepper....the guys rocking 82-86% disapproval ratings in these polls. Enough of Fitterers moves have backfired to make me suspicious of him. I want to see him in a traditional GM role, though. Out from under the specter of being a Jr. GM to Matt Rhule. I think if we see a couple of seasons of that, we will know if he is going to be worth keeping around.

I actually expected this to track to 90% or better disapproval. It is interesting that it roughly mirrors the Tepper approval rating. I suspected that blame was going to be: 1. Rhule, 2. Tepper, 3. Fitterer That was precisely what happened.

This poll is tracking about where I expected it to. Maybe a little less of an approval rating than expected.

Tremble and TMJ got plenty of PT last year. Tremble started 11 games, played 16 games and was in on 48% of all offensive snaps. TMJ started 3 games, played in 13 games and was in on 48% of offensive snaps. Tremble was fine, it was TMJ that was a head scratching disappointment. The issue I have with the 2021 class is that we didn't much of anything from our 1st-3rd picks. Now, Horn I like and he was injured so there is an asterisk on that statement. However, TMJ and BC were just plain not good. They were disappointing even by rookie standards. So, that is a big concern. We have to get them to develop into something, if even just quality depth guys. But a team as talent deficient as we are cannot have many bad drafts. It just digs a deeper and deeper hole.

I don't think Corral is necessary. If he just hits on Horn, Icky, Chinn and maybe Marshall he's good in my book. I don't really judge harshly on anything past the 3rd round.

Well the question was for the season, so I took it as season and not that game specifically, so I wouldn't take Horn. Not to mention, he is an almost completely unknown quantity versus a highly productive and extremely experienced guy in Tillman. He definitely wouldn't be starting over Josh Norman. Harper was a tough one. I just went with veteran over a guy that is really still pretty raw and learning. Plus, Chinn is pretty ineffective in pass coverage, so that would be a concern. To me, more so in a one season timeline than Harper's waning effectiveness.
