  1. The thing is, they clearly value QB by being involved with Stafford and Watson. I have to think they just had a very narrow grade on QB's in the draft.
  2. Hopefully we continue to destroy Chicago. I want to exorcise those demons headed into the playoffs.
  3. That isn't encouraging to have that dufus KOD'ing our new QB.
  4. Yeah, that is what concerns me so much. The history of these reclamation projects at QB is not exactly stellar. I will say that if Horn and the hodgepodge of relatively who Dat OL additions(draft and FA) work out, that will lessen the blow of Darnold continuing to be a bust quite a bit. Although I am certainly a proponent of getting a franchise QB whenever the opportunity presents itself, it wouldn't be awful to have the luxury of pulling a move like San Francisco or the Rams and just buying a new QB after the team is largely in place.
  5. Well, they bought low on both accounts. We will see if that ends up being the right strategy.
  6. I have been optimistic enough in my lifetime as a Panthers fan. I am just adopting a wait and see approach. If it works out, awesome. Finally. If it doesn't.....well....Panthers tradition will remain.
  7. Yeah but you can insert Marty Hurney and Dave Gettleman into that logic and end up in nothing but tears. We all hope that Rhule and Fitterer know what they are doing but we absolutely do not know that. TBD
  8. I mean, it doesn't even look like he is really........Tryon. I'll see myself out.
  9. Precisely. QB and LT are far more valuable positions in the modern NFL than CB. The question is, are the guys we passed on actually better than Horn will be? TBD.
  10. Well, if Slater turns into a good LT or Fields turns into a good QB while we struggle at LT or QB, it could look like a questionable decision. I don't see a reason to jump on the "WE ARE OBVIOUSLY GENIUSES" train without the acknowledgement that we could end up regretting that 8th pick(or some of the moves after it). We never know the full story until long after the draft.
  11. That is a hindsight discussion, in fairness. How many "on paper" draft classes have we had that looked less than stellar 3-4 years later. This one is likely going to be a boom or bust, IMO. Not a lot of middle ground.
  12. Indeed. Very good gamble. If he is even a two deep player for the entire rookie contract, that is a HR for a 6th round pick.
  13. I suspect Scott ends up starting the majority of games for us. I still believe it might be a bridge too far for Christensen. I damn sure hope I am wrong. I will rescind every critical comment about Fitt and Rhule's offseason if they nail a very good LT.
  14. It isn't lazy. He tested out poorly athletically(not surprising) and he didn't move well in the workouts. This is the classic college fan mistake of assuming that college success is a 1:1 with NFL success.
  15. That is a fair assessment. If things align perfectly, we can be a fringe playoff contender. Even if next season is much of the same as last(in terms of overall results), I will be happy to see the further establishment of our young core and perhaps a glimpse of actually having some semblance of depth on the roster again.
  16. Being able to use Tremble as our FB/H-Back would be huge. Gives us another slot on the roster, basically.
  17. Deonte is pretty poor in pass protection. Mauler as a run blocker though. Quick guys are probably always going to bother him but he can be a brute in the run game.
  18. If you look at the full spread of OL stats, that shows how they were, at best, a bottom half of the league unit. In certain cases, bottom quarter. Keep in mind that ol checkdown Teddy and our scheme also masked some of the problems. Also keep in mind how rare it was for us to be starting the same 5 linemen in consecutive weeks. Make no mistake, it was a pretty bad unit, although it had some pretty good individual contributors. That is gonna have to improve because we have a QB that is far, far less comfortable with pressure in his face than Teddy was.
  19. He did play very well. It would be fantastic if a guy that lowly drafted(or rather undrafted) develops into a quality starter for us. Those kind of successes go a long way towards getting this rebuild moving in the right direction.
  20. If the secondary moves work out and DL moves work out, it could disguise the obvious weaknesses at LB. Also consider that in the very unlikely event that Perryman is healthy, we could suddenly get a LOT better at LB. I wouldn't bank on that being the case but eventually perhaps we will hit on one of these "oft injured" guys. OL should be one of the most interesting positions. Outside Moton and Paradis, literally every other spot should be up for grabs between our FA signings and draft picks. The #3 and #4 WR spots will be an underrated battle too, IMO. Some interesting options we drafted mixed with some veteran returnees. Of course, we will all be comparing those guys to what Samuel does next season. That adds a lot of intrigue. Plus Anderson and Moore are coming up on deals, so that adds an additional element.
