I would not want to pay him $8.3 mil. At that rate, let him go elsewhere. I was thinking more in the $4-5 mil range.

What is the best way to remedy the mistakes of the past? Panthers: Double down!!!!

Wow.....just....wow.

I think it is entirely possible Trubisky would be the 6th or 7th best QB in this draft class. You have to remember that not only was he vastly over drafted by Chicago but at the time that was considered a very, very, very weak QB draft class. Now, in hindsight, it had two of the biggest stars in the NFL at QB but I don't remember many getting excited about Mahomes as a prospect and Watson wasn't considered a very high caliber QB prospect either.

Minshew is just flat out a better player.

Was the Gettleman's 2017 draft class the best in Panthers history?
kungfoodude replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
His drafting was not consistent and sometimes very bad. Reference the rest of his drafts aside from 2017. He only looks good because of the large swath of time that Hurney was crushing the first round and basically little else. Gettleman's dumpster diving early on netted some great results. I always felt like he got a little overconfident with that. Then he made aeguably the worst free agency signing in franchise history in Matt Kalil. To me, after the suspect drafts, that was the final straw in his coffin. -
Jones isn't Teddy. Teddy is actually more NFL skilled than Jones is(stronger arm, far better athlete). Teddy just can't get out of his own way. Dalton is a better comparison and I just can't see the justification for taking Andy Dalton at 8. I'd rather gamble bigger on an upper half of the NFL QB. That is no slight to Dalton's NFL career, but we are looking for a franchise QB and Dalton really wasn't. Ironically, the Bengals ended up drafting a guy that is pretty similar to Andy Dalton.

What does Moton tag mean for Curtis Samuel?
kungfoodude replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think anyone knows yet. Undoubtedly Curtis will test the market but we don't know how hot of a commodity he will be. -
There is an awful lot of stupid in this thread so it is nice to see some reason. Trubisky is basically in the "only a little better than Teddy" category. That said, he needs to come cheaply. Anything that isn't cheap or is more than 2 years is just repeating the mistakes of last offseason. Sign him to a reasonable backup QB contract, as that is what he actually is.

Oh well. We have a nice run against the bottom half of the division the rest of the month, so we will have ample opportunities to push Tampa. We just need to keep taking care of business and we can take this division.

Was the Gettleman's 2017 draft class the best in Panthers history?

We are significantly jumping the shark on this take. CMC is an elite player on pace for a HOF caliber career.....however he also spent the last year banged up and is playing one of the shortest average career length positions. There is no question he is capable of being an all time Panther great. Samuel had a great year but let's not forget he has also been a one year wonder. If he ascends to being a #1 or #2 WR somewhere else or becomes a consistent producer for another 5-8 years, he is a HR pick. But we are also forgetting his rather forgettable career prior to his contract year. Taylor Moton is a stud. Not much argument from me, as he is probably one of the top 5-6 OL we have ever drafted. But, still need to see him continue to play that way for another few years. Hall was a bust. Elder has had one year of decent nickel production, so let's not get too carried away yet. Alex Armah is a very good pick for what he is. Butker appears to be a great pick. If he continues to play well, he may be our best 7th round selection in franchise history. If that happens, plenty of credit will be issued for hitting that big of a HR that late in the draft. -
In fairness to him, that was before Hurney was canned, correct?

Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”
kungfoodude replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
In fairness he is the third guy I have heard give Lance a second round grade. I don't think that is super far fetched. I just think be will still go in the top 10. -
Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
kungfoodude replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Zero chance they find a backup QB of that quality and that cheap -
Sort of like the classic NBA prospect cycle. The longer you stick around the less they see "potential" and the more they start seeing problems.

I'm still a little salty Chinn didn't get DROY!

It's almost as if they play completely different positions. -

IDC. Let Young get a top 5 DE contract while we sign Chinn to a great deal and he retires a Panther. -

Dan Snyder...what should they do with him
kungfoodude replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Trying to deflect. I am quite sure that the NFL is furious about the leak. -
Jets willing to discuss trading Darnold
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. I am not against acquiring him, but it needs to be at a fairly reasonable price. Let's not forget that he is also in the last year of his rookie deal, so if you trade something like a 3rd or 4th round pick for him is that worth a one year rental player? You really need to be convinced on him to trade draft capital away, IMO. Given our overall needs as a team, it can't be a "hope this works out" kind of move when we give up draft picks. Those draft picks are critical for building this franchise back up. -
I am not missing the point, you are quite clearly missing my point. Trading any draft capital to get back into the first round to take Mac Jones isn't wise. Especially when you are talking about trading up in the 21-32 range. Why even bother wasting a draft pick if he is sliding like that and we didn't take him at 8? If he wasn't worthy of that pick, he probably isn't worthy of giving up a first, second, third, fourth or whatever it would cost to get back into the bottom of the first round. Especially since we have the #7 pick in the 2nd round. That's some Marty Hurney nonsense. We tried cheap free agents this past offseason and had some pretty mixed results. Miller was okay but we need to finally start drafting some competent players and developing them rather than dumpster diving each offseason. There is a reason the kind of players we have been getting are cheap and easy to obtain, because they are below average NFL starters or backup guys. This is yet another draft where there is a lot of quality offensive linemen in this class so we need to try and avoid having another Little/Daley draft where we missed out on a very good interior offensive line class. The offensive line is hands down the worst unit on our team, and that includes quarterback.

Jets willing to discuss trading Darnold
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
It isn't unique from the perspective of him being an experienced starting QB in the NFL that just hasn't played well or improved. Is some of that due to Adam Gase and the Jets? Absolutely. But at the same time, not every young QB is put in a situation to succeed and some still ultimately are able to rise about the poor circumstances. Darnold hasn't done that, so it definitely makes you wonder if he just doesn't have what it takes to be a successful player in the NFL or hasn't done what is required to be a success. A was still a three year player and two year starting QB at a football factory school. Was has been playing QB for years. So, is it really that he is just 23? I don't think I can completely buy that as being the primary reason.
