Oh I am not forgetting about ego. Hence the reason why I talk about the standoff lasting past this offseason. I do think his value could drop if the young drop of QB's step up and become NFL starters. Let's say that we get 3-5 potential starters from this draft. That's 3-5 potential suitors off the market. Let's say the Lions trade or cut Stafford and he ends up on a team that was considering trading for Watson. Or let's say Sam Darnold is suddenly a star without Gase. Those are all factors that make market demand drop. Less demand.....likely a lower price. It's not to say all of that will happen or that a team or teams may not get very desperate and be willing to give up anything but any of those things happening does hurt the overall market for him. And let's not forget that there may be a big gulf between what the media speculates of his potential price and what an actual NFL team is willing to give up.

That haul amount will drop the longer they hold out. It will get less after free agency and the draft, because potential suitors will be off the board. Especially if teams he is willing get traded to move forward with their plans. Make no mistake, the league isn't going to grind to a standstill to wait on the resolution of this stand off. And the fact that his value is so high is that the need for QB's is extremely high at the moment. That changes when QB's get drafted or QB needy teams decide to sign free agents instead of wait.

If we made picks to attempt to get Watson in a trade, instead of just building for the future once Houston goes into dumb mode......we will be a dumpster fire in no time. I'd love to have Watson but I wouldn't shy away from taking a QB at #8(if available) if Houston decides 2021 is going to be hardball time.

It's kind of like watching a relationship with one of your buddies and telling him to rid of his GF/spouse because it is plainly obvious where it is all heading. But they double down to try and salvage it, only for more time to pass before the inevitable happens and they split up. That's Houston and Watson right now.

Panther Fans Offseason QB Trade Quick Reference

That last year of a bonus(the bonus has already been paid in full at signing) is an extra year added for accounting purposes. New Orleans has been doing that with Drew Brees contract forever. It's a way of lessening the impact of the prorated bonus cap hit every year. The downside is that it carries dead money into a time period where the player is no longer on the team. You have to keep in mind that those prorated bonuses get paid out upon signing of the contract. That is all "book money" and not actual money being spent(because it has already BEEN spent). -
This is also true. It doesn't hurt that he is tearing it up down there.

And that value is also fluid, as well. Next year if Brown blows up and Moore only has one year left on his deal(or has signed a new big deal with us) then his trade value may also drop. CMC's value is fairly low because not many teams want a $10+ mil RB on their team, even one in their prime. I don't think jersey sales will play a big factor, although you never know. That kind of stuff is all over the map unless you are talking about a LeBron-type popularity level. Plus we have to consider the year he spent on the sidelines due to multiple injuries have likely severely tanked his overall value. I somewhat suspect this will all end up as an exercise in theory anyway. I don't think we will be able to make a deal and I am doubtful we ever learn what we offered, if anything.
