They both had the same base salary, which was the league minimum for a player with 7+ seasons accrued. McCoy has more bonus money in his deal. None of those guys you mentioned are top 10 pay for backup QB's. They are much more in line with what the pay for a 2nd or 3rd string QB is worth. Which....Winston was legitimately a third string QB. Cam was a starter but he was also one of the worst starters in the NFL. It sucks to see it but he may just be done as a player. Hopefully he lands somewhere else so I don't have to like watching him fail(I will never wish anything good for any Patriot, ever). I can tell you from the 2020 data the highest paid backup QB in the NFL was Jacoby Brissett. Of the top 10 backup QB salaries, 40% were minority QB's(Mariota is half Samoan) in 2020. It is hard to say what 2021 will look like because there is a lot of turnover at QB this offseason. I will say that I think this has changed and is continuing to change more quite simply because the percentage of starters and QB's drafted are beginning to have many more minority QB's than in the previous generations. I don't forsee that trend reversing any time soon. -
I think moving him prior to the draft will be really challenging. I can easily see a scenario where we sign or draft his replacement and we start shopping him. It will have to be a cap dump move where we give them a draft pick to take him, however. That contract is not one many teams are going to want on their books. Same thing I have said about a far, far, far, far, far better player in CMC. That is another toxic contract that the majority of teams don't want. I really hope that is the biggest thing moving forward we get better at. We have to stop giving out these Bridgewater, CMC and Shaq Thompson toxic contracts.

He is currently the 15th highest QB cap number for 2021 and will move up one spot once Drew Brees retires. Dak Prescott is the only free agent QB of note this offseason and he will likely surpass the deal Teddy has. A top 15 contract is bad for a backup QB. The thing that makes it infinitely worse is something we didn't know was going to happen when we signed him, which is the salary cap decreasing. That is honestly the thing that makes his deal so unbearably bad. Any of these recent teams that have had big contract backup QB's(Glennon, Foles) have eventually moved them before their contracts expired. If we can get a cap heavy team to take a draft pick, I would trade him. That cap money would be fantastic to roll over for 2022 when we owe some big contracts to younger players. Or to simply use on a guy like Moton.

I would have to look at the numbers more closely to see if I agreed with that. The league has always had overpaid backups. I would want to see if the data backs up your assertion in the past 5-10 years. -

I will say that Big Ben is one that used to be a mobile QB. He intentionally changed his body and playing style years back precisely to extend his career. We all want these mobile QB's but you also need to make sure they are the Mahomes and Wilson type QB's that don't take a lot of big hits when they run the ball. It does help that you aren't really allowed to destroy those guys like you could at one time. -

I mean....that is a fuging weird tangent to take but I don't think that reflects the modern NFL. This is literally the golden era of black QB's. Almost every young QB star....is black. That may have been true historically but that is not true now. -

They all trail off eventually and usually in their late 30's. Obviously guys like Brees and Brady are outliers but most of these guys are productive a lot longer than the previous generation of QB's were. Almost every one of those guys had a top 10 passing performance in their last two years in the league. 6 QB's over 35 had top 10 performances this season alone. Like I said, your 1-2 season take is not going to age well. I suspect Stafford will be productive for another 6-8 seasons. It really depends on how long he wants to keep doing this. Rivers didn't retire because he couldn't keep doing it. He just didn't want to play anywhere but Indy and they wanted to move on. Brady didn't retire when NE moved on. Big Ben doesn’t want to retire this year. -
IDK why but I read this in Mel Kiper's voice.

Having an elite TE is such a bigger weapon, though. RB's can't create the mismatches they can.

Watching Kelce and Waller makes me miss having a great TE.

Brees or Brady? Dude, better get out that list again. Those are the 40+ guys. Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer, etc. Like I said, these guys are playing longer because the league changed the rules over the years to favor QB's. -
I wouldn't call it "the farm." The projected Watson deals are "the farm." I think it has more to do with the fact that you have an elite, known quantity versus a bunch of unknowns. It is entirely possible that our scouting on the guys in our potential range(Fields, Wilson, Lance) may not be be as glowing as the media's or the fans. It is also entirely possible they know it is likely the trade market to move up to secure one of those guys may be very aggressive and very expensive. Hard to say what the complete story is.

Yeah, I don't watch a lot of Raiders(pretty rarely). I am trying to get an idea about how he works in their offense. I had a friend bring up him as "check down" guy. Trying to look at some advanced stats to see how he does throwing the ball deep. Other than that. Yeah, I would be okay with Carr.

He is 33, not 38. Take a look at the league for the past five years. Anything stand out in the top 10 passers in the NFL? Yeah, it is a lot of guys in their late 30's. Elite QB's are staying around longer because the NFL doesn't let them get ground to mush like they did in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I mean, unless you are running QB like Cam...then it is fine, apparently. Well ran teams also don't look like the Carolina Panthers, so let's be clear about that. Well ran teams and winning teams already know that you need an elite QB to succeed. -

Since we are reframing narratives, Stafford is likely to have more than a "couple" of great seasons. I agree we are still building but having a solid foundation is just as important as having a roof. A franchise without an elite QB is like building a house without a roof. The rest of the house isn't going to last long without that roof. -

All you have to do is look at playoff success from the past decade and that sticks out like a sore thumb. -

Since when is Moore rumored to be wanting to leave? Let's see those sources. -
Yeah, I just browsed his stats too. I am warming up to this idea quite a bit. I don't think he is an elite QB but he might be really great in our offense.

The constant QB churn was absurd in Tampa. It was funny because no matter how many he always churned through, it was always the same guy or two that were "The Guy."
