Why am I further not surprised that you cannot even comprehend anything I have said in basically any post? It must be difficult to be dumb in the age of information. Especially when all of these posts and information is still are just sitting there, waiting for you to sound it out and make sense of it. I pity you.

You are issuing lots of credit for "what ifs." The arguments against the move are just as valid as those for it. Those draft picks we jettisoned could easily have been spent on guys that might be starters or two deep players for us for year to come, whereas Darnold may be relegated to the NFL dustbin after two uneventful seasons in Charlotte. I can say this, after one bust QB move in 2020, the staff needs to hope they don't have similar results in 2021....
-
I'd say the elite QB pool is deeper than that by my personal definition. Either way, I agree with your point. What is for certain, when you don't have that guy, you end up wasting a lot of good careers at other positions.
-
I probably wouldn't take Darnold over the top 6 QB's in this draft, if I am being perfectly honest. Yeah, I am curious to see what they are able to do with Darnold. TBH, there wasn't much improvement with Teddy, so I don't think they are the "Joe Burrow" miracle workers that people like to reference. I really still hope we can snag a QB at 8. I'd rather have two shots at franchise QB rather than just this one.

Why am I not surprised your reading comprehension is extremely low?

The 2nd rounder isn't "minor-ish", IMO. That is a pick that can get you some significant value in just a pure trade for an active NFL player. Supposedly we are going to exercise Darnold's fifth year option(deadline is May 3), which means he will likely be here for two seasons. If those reports are true, that makes him substantially less cheap(he'd be getting $18.9 mil in 2022). Also, I don't think they would release him only because they would forfeit a potential compensatory selection and his salary is fully guaranteed, so there is zero savings. I do think it might have been wiser to wait until post draft for this move but I guess they saw enough to make him "the guy." I am curious how long it takes for Rhule to make his way to the hot seat(hopefully we never find out). For all the patience that Tepper preached for the rebuild, it doesn't look like that lasted long.

You are arguing that 4 and 7 years ago was a "different era" of NFL football. That's just flat out stupid. But, keep telling us how much you know about "Nick Files."

If you look at pure winning percentages, having an elite QB will consistently put you in a better position to win. That doesn't mean it is the ONLY way to win in the NFL. It just becomes harder without that elite QB. Elite QB's can more easily win without a great supporting cast than marginal QB's. So that margin for error gets greater by just having those guys on your team. Hell, Cam did that for us so many times.

Darnold part of the draft day strategy

There are a lot of variables to crunch for these scenarios. If it is a team outside the top 12 trying to trade up into the top 8, there is a reasonable chance the price could get high(potential to miss out on your guy if you trade down that far). However, if it is just a marginal move down(say, 5 from 9) this is a deal that might make sense for both teams and be easier to close. Conversely, you also have the scenarios in which perhaps a top 8 team doesn't really "love" the players left more than the guys they are looking at in the 12-16 range. It's very tough to tell what will go down or how likely or unlikely these trade up/down scenarios are. -

I don't think the options have changed, nor do I think that we should abandon a QB prospect if they fall to us. -
Yeah, if you expand to "Super Bowl Participating QB's" you get a higher percentage of less elite QB's. That said, if you look AFC/NFC championship game participating QB's, I think that substantially favors the elite QB's(IIRC).
-
Sides? Lol. WTF are you talking about? Yeah, it was basically a desperation move. I don't see why anyone would argue otherwise. I don't think you actually watch football.
-
I am afraid to say that statement because I can definitely see scenarios where he ISN'T as good as Teddy. That scares me most.
-
Did you just claim the last ten years was a "different era?" Lol....wut?
-
We didn't make him any more the "game be of" our team than we did Teddy. He is just as easily discarded. I wasn't a big fan of the move but I understand it. When you are down to your fourth best option, that's how you get to Sam Darnold.
-
I know. I honestly thought it was going to be the easiest opponent we faced all playoffs. I still to this day believe that to be the case, for that matter.

2020 Darnold has some inkling of potential to be better, albeit unlikely. 2015 Peyton Manning was the crushed remains of the shell of an NFL player. Not a great comparison. Also, there are more suspect QB's that go drug to championships in the past 25 years. Joe Flacco, Nick Foles, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson come to mind. There is an argument for Eli Manning, although he is probably somewhere in between the great QB's and the average guys.
-
There haven't been many QB's since Peyton Manning in 2015 that have been as bad with at least 9 starts in a season. I am amazed anyone can forget how terrible he was.
-
We should know if Darnold is better than Foles after this coming season. If Darnold flames out as a starter here, I'd say Nick Foles is a very good comparison.
-
The biggest contribution that Peyton Manning exhibited in 2015 was to Brock Osweiler's pockets. In fact, Brock was a far, far, far, far better QB on that team in his 7 starts for Denver. Peyton was the worst starting QB in the NFL in 2015. Your memory must be of pre-2015 Manning.

Green Bay has been a consistent team in the NFC. The Seahawks have been extremely consistent.

In the scenario where a QB has slid to us, why do you think that we would suddenly get a haul that a team in front of us wouldn't? In most of those "slide" scenarios historically, the draft media turned out to be more hyped on a prospect than the NFL front offices were. That probably means we aren't as likely to get a haul of picks in a trade up for a sliding QB. -
Well, never say never. They said that it wouldn't happen in the free agency era, yet it did.

2020 Sam Darnold was much better than 2015 Peyton Manning. That really isn't even a discussion.
